to the weekend forecast so you can start making your outdoor plans. good morning everyone. thanks for joining us. >> a great view there in commerce city this morning. a check of weather and traffic. >> we are off to a fairly mild start. it is much calmer here in denver compare today yesterday. take a look at the winds behind me. let's take a look at what's happening outside this morning. sit here to the foothills and it is as you head along the pass. winds well over 50 miles per hour this morning. taking a look at satellite and radar. we have a few clouds and we should stay that way. it is cooler thanks to relaxed winds. 28 in fort collins and 26 in burlington.

you may want a warmer jacket to start the day. we are in the 60s with mostly sunny skies. >> we have copter 4. look how many cars we have got out there. all of them are running slowly. it is wishing their car could fly too. taking a look at 270 and york as well from our camera. you head southbound coming into town. that is a slow drive. s on railroad average speed 50 miles per hour. you get your traffic every ten minutes on the tens. a shooting involve ago craigslist ad. it ended at west 20th we are

this is last night's incidents started out with a car chase that ended near where i'm standing at 20th and aims. this was the outcome of the chase last night. it ended around 11:00 and denver place say they spotted the suspects and ended up having to do a pit maneuver. an officer confirmed they were connected to the craigslist shooting. all three transported to the hospital as a result of injuries sustained in the chase. they found one man had been shot and he along with another man arrived at the scene craigslist transaction. they were forced out of their fire. police tell us that that incident was likely drug

that is senior sergeant wells tonjes. they tell us that demotion was related to his oversight and handling of the eviction. the sheriff said this was something he had to address. he declined further details on that. tonjes believed he was a scapegoat for what happened and doesn't know why he was being demoted. al sheriff placed his undersheriff on paid administrative leave. there were -- the sheriff said the suspension was also a

were done incorrectly. the former presidential nominee is expected to call out trump puck likely for the -- publicly for the first time today. he posed this video questioning romney's conservative credentials. it is failure to immediately distance himself for the support of former kkk leader. ben carson withdraw from the debate. he says he sees no path forward. he plans on talking about his future tomorrow at a conference in maryland. democrats will debate again on sunday in flint michigan. today cancer patients, survivors and their families will meet for cancer day. they plan to talk about fighting the disease.

awareness about colon cancer. scott kelly landed in houston overnight after returning to kazakhstan on tuesday. he spent a u.s. record 340 days in space. doctors are examining kelly to see what kind of impact the mission had on his health. they will also analyze changes to his genetic structure by comparing him to his identical twin brother. it is to explore and we must never stop. what an ambassador. his wife also welcomed kelly. she chose those two things because she said there is nothing more american. he saw tens of thousands of sunrises and sunsets. back home he even tweeted out this photo saying my first sunset on earth on my way home. >> that is really cool.

you have the left lane blocked off from that silver truck as well. look at the back ups behind it. all of those headlights now needing to squeeze down into one lane. that's all of the traffic making its way into town. i'll show you what we are talking about. this is 270. you have i-70 backing up because of this accident. we expect the back ups to continue to i-225 and they could be effected traffic along i-225 as well as you're making the merge. watching across the denver area that's our only trouble spot. a little stall. not effected traffic to north of santa fe. it is great along c 470 as well. a much different story. you're watching these winds that we had yesterday. look at that drive out to

>> yeah, a live look outside for us this morning. sit -- it is shaking in the wind. be careful if you're driving in those spots. taking a look at wind speeds right now. we are starting off around 50 miles per hour. winds have been up to 60 miles per hour so far this morning. black hawk winds about 20 to 30 miles per hour. here in denver much calmer for us. it will stay that way. 23 in denver, 29 out in re. 25 in steamboat and 35 over in grand junction. a few high clouds this morning but it's really beautiful. sunshine to start day. we stay that way. mostly sunny skies, beautiful afternoon as well. windy in the foothills and we may see a few more clouds. overnight tonight skies are

a few more high clouds to start the day. it does get a bit windy. it is 66 in denver and 67 in boulder. lots of 60s from fort collins to greeley and 69 in frisco and 63 over in grand junction. for your hour by hour forecast maybe a little warmer coat and this afternoon you can ditch it with 65 degrees around 2:00. for the rest of the week we do stay warm. tomorrow is a little windier. breezy on saturday. we are in the mid-60s but could get late rain. we do have a chance for rain and snow into the evening. we are live on the floor of the new york stock exchange right now. it sent energy stocks higher. futures pointing to a flat open.

hackers. it does sound a little crazy. it is part of a program to test the system's security and expose possible areas of weakness. participants must pass a background check first. they want a piece of the cuban travel market. they submitted applications to fly scheduled flights to cuba. most of those flights are looking to go between havana and miami. denver. soon you'll be able to pay for items through your smart phone without even taking it out of your pocket. google has started to test a hands free mobile payment system. and one restaurant chain wants to get customers talking again to each other. they are giving free ice cream to customers who put away their cell phones while they eat.

,, coming up on 6:21, live pictures coming in there i-70 and quebec. it is backing things up as you head on the westbound direction. we have a truck there in the far left lane and another truck on the right shoulder causing big delays. take a look at the map. you can see this long line of red extending. we'll start to see it slow down in the northbound direction of 2:25. the one bright spot is heading out to the airport it should be

a little rubber necking there. you have a great sunrise out there. this is our view from lookout mountain. a beautiful start to the day. the winds are calmer. we have gusty winds in the foothills but security wait time is about 20 minutes in most spotsful let's get to what's happening across the country. we do have rain and snow in the midwest. the warm part of this system is bringing in rain and thunderstorms to the southeast today. it makes its way to the mid- atlantic today and tonight. could have snowy commutes. into the desert southwest very dry and very warm. a lot of folks heading to spring training. 91 in phoenix today. let's check back in now. don't bring e cigarettes on planes.

they want to protect people from unwanted exposure. they now fall under the same restrictions as regular already cigarettes. people will now have more access to more affordable housing in denver. the westwood crossing apartments will be near federal. the four story building will have a special space for retail businesses and 98 apartments for low and moderate income including 56 two bathroom units. >> you know what that provides? it gives them that opportunity to do that for their children. >> the city of denver also plans to build two more affordable housing developments. you may their latest steps in the journey to the stars.

all the way from i-225 because of this. back-ups continuing to pena boulevard. it will cost you at least ten minutes at least to get that moved out of the way. that is really our only trouble spot onto the roadways. it is starting to slow down southbound as well. taking a look outside it is a little cooler. you may want a little thicker jacket. you can see still cloud cover outside this morning but still plenty of clear skies. colors. it is 23 degrees. it is 28 in fort collins and 26 junction. so a cool start to the day. temperatures are going to be very lovely later on.

of sunshine and much calmer winds. let's check in right now. they are downstairs in the studio. three people in custody after a craigslist meet-up. it happened in lakewood. we are at west 20th and aims where the men were cuffed. >> reporter: those three people taken into custody late last night. it was ultimately denver police who chased their car down that chase ended at 11:00 last night. coming up at 6:45 we'll have more details on that shooting as a response to craigslist ad. they are stopping the suspects live overnight. >> thanks. the honor flags in colorado today following park county deputy carrigan. the u.s. honor flag serves as a

it was like window, door, stairs to each other whispering. >> the woman got outside and officers took the man into custody. they say he was suspected of trying to steal a vehicle. a mail carrier found a two- year-old wandering alone. he noticed the toddler wearing nothing but a diaper and tee shirt out there yesterday. he blocked traffic and went into the street to get her to safety. seconds. i just put down everything, all of my mail and put it in drive and took off straight for her. it is mind blowing. i'm glad she is safe and hopefully back with her mom. >> the little girl's grandfather left her in front of a tv when she walked out. the grandfather is looking at a charge of child abuse.

big plans for the 16th street mall this summer. the mall and cross streets will feature an interactive pop of events and community lead activity. it will happen for five consecutive weekends this summer. they are hoping it will attract more people downtown. new from overnight, officers finally have a police horse under control after it broke loose and galloped through time square. police say some loud noise spooked him. police found him in a parking garage. the officer who was riding him is expected to be okay. new this morning, you can help get your college mascot on the back of a plane. they are running a contest now. frontier will feature it on one of the new planes. right now csu and cu are top vote getters in the contest. we have a little taste of

we are off to a windy start today. sun working its way up. a beautiful start to the day here in denver. cloud cover and sunshine and skies are very clear. ridgeway looking beautiful this morning. taking a look at what some of our weather watchers are reporting this morning, richard reporting 29 degrees. we are looking at warmer temperatures today. joel has been watching a busy drive. >> it has been a busy commute. now we are starting to see the back ups clear. it will take a while for that to happen. traveling over i-25 near by alameda. duo have a stalled -- do have a

watch out for that. take a look as you come west into town. this is i-25. it is about a 20 minute drive. average speed of 19 miles per hour. >> that's a slow one. we were there as police took three people into custody. a chase ended around 11:00 last night at west 20th and aims. it is near the sheridan area. we are live this morning as we report on developments, jamie. >> reporter: police aren't saying how these three are actually connected to the shooting but they went to great lengths to stop them last night. it ended just where near where i'm standing at 20th and aims. right here you can see the three people, a woman and two men. the suspects being taken into custody at 20th and aims after a car chase. denver police attempted to top their vehicle.

had to use a pit maneuver. it happened around 11:00 last night. an officer on scene confirmed these three people with some how connect today the shooting. they were taken into custody and transport today the hospital for treatment of injuries. earlier this week police responded to a shooting to find that one man had been shot and investigators say he along with another man, they both initially arrived to complete a craigslist transaction. they were forced out of their car by somebody who then opened fire. a second person drove off in the victim's car afterwards. they say it was likely drug related. i did speak with denver police and they say they were transported to the hospital as a precautionary measure. we will contact lakewood police to continue to find out what the connection is between these three suspects and the shooting in lakewood.

there is a shake up at the park county sheriffs department a week after a man kill add deputy and wounded two -- killed a deputy and wounded two others. martin worth lost his home to forclosure. worth killed corporal nate carrigan. we learned the under sheriff is now on placed leave and sergeant was demoted then resigned. senior sergeant wells tonjes was being demoted but resigned the same day. they say the demotion was related to his oversight and handling of the eviction incident. they say it was something we had to address but he declined to further comment. tonjes said he believed he was a scapegoat for what happened and said he doesn't know why he was being demoted.

under sheriff on paid administrative leave. they say there were problems with the way he notified the father about his son's death. it is also the result of a series of events and administrative actions that were done incorrectly. we have not been able to reach the undersheriff for comment. it is scheduled for march 14th. the coroner's office will need several days to identify the two people killed in a plane crash. somebody near by snapped this picture of the plane moments before it went down. the plane burst into flames and that sparked a ten acre grass fire. new details about a murder suicide. police say a man shot and killed his stepdaughter who was

questions after the death of monica montoya. her step father shot and killed her and killed himself. she leaves behind a husband and those triplets. a college fund has been set up for the children. so far it raised more than $30,000. cbs4 news. new this morning north korea launched more missiles a day after u.s. sanctions went into play. they say the projectile went into place. the launches come a day after they imposed some of the strictest sanctions ever.
