i'm far from the truth -- >> republicans begin an all out assault on front runner donald trump as they work to stop his nomination. that speech from mitt romney tops our news this moon. good to have you with us. romney delivered that blistering attack this morning. it outlines romney's arguments. >> he delivered a speech with one goal in mind, stopping donald trump from winning the presidential nomination. his. >> his promises are as worth less as a degree from trump university. >> reporter: he said it would be disasterrous for the republican party. >> earn pass untrust worthy as hillary clinton must not become president. a trump nomination enables her victory.

now says he regrets it. >> he ran one of the worst campaigns in a presidential catastrophe. >> reporter: a owing fear that trump will win but they have their own strategies on how to stop him. spread out delegates. >> everyone get together so we can keep this front runner from winning and destroying the republican party. >> reporter: ted cruz wants everyone out so he can take on trump head to head. >> the field can't remain fractured. >> cruz and the remaining candidates take the stage tonight. >> it will be the rematch of trump and megan kelly. it is the first time they have met since the debate back in august.

sight we could see him act more presidential than his past behavior. and for the caucus in a frustrating for republican voters there is a renewed push to return colorado to a primary vote to pick presidential candidates. they say colorado may have simply out grown the ability to caucus. three people believed to be link today a shooting earlier this week. it is a craigslist ad believed to be about illegal drugs. we are live from the scene of an arrest last night. what are you hearing from police about these three they arrested? >> reporter: this is where a car chase last night that took place overnight ended at 20th and edgewater. police say the three arrested in last night's car chase are connected to the suspect in the craigslist shooting and they are hoping that those three can provide a break in the investigation. you can see the three people on

a woman and two men being taken into custody right here after that late night car chase. police noticed that their vehicle matched the suspect vehicle in the craigslist case. police attempted to pull it over but the driver didn't stop. they ended up using a pit maneuver. it was around 11:00 last night when the three were taken into custody. they are being held on charges unrelated to the craigslist shooting. they believe these three know who the shooter was and may be able to lead authorities to anybody else involved. that shooting happened earlier this week. one man had been shot. investigators say he and another man showed up to compete a craigslist transaction and they were forced out of their car. another person drove off in the victim's car. police believe the craigslist

as for the three arrested they face charges including eluding police and a slew of other traffic charges. police told me they will continue to push forward hoping to find people involved in that shooting. cbs4 news. >> thanks a lot. police and federal agents in houston searching for brazen thieves who smashed their way into a gun store. mark takes us through the crime and explains the possible motive. >> reporter: nothing subtle about this one. it is 4:30 in the morning and a group of thieves uses a black pickup truck to smash into the country gun. roughly ten of them scatter inside and grabbing as many guns and rifles as they could carry. it looks like they had something of a plan. you can see one suspect using a hammer to smash through the glass case and others follow

another seems to target the long guns behind the counter. they took at least 50 weapons and in a little more than two minutes they were gone. they say the group switched vehicles about a block away and took off into the darkness. it was such a rush job police found weapons left behind lying ton street outside the store. they say stolen weapons like these are often sold on the black market, can remembers buying and selling guns to other criminals. >> you have another criminal element that needs firearm to commit their crimes some times associated with a drug trade or robberies. >> reporter: there is another disturbing issue. gun store smash and grabs are becoming more common. >> we are seeing an uptake across the country. >> mark reporting there.

last comment about the smash and grab becoming more common. on monday four thieves used the sedan to cut into georgia. the owner says they got away with more than 30 guns there. new information today from the park county sheriff about his decision to discipline two deputies. in a statement this morning fred said he disciplined the two in the aftermath of that deadly shooting of a sheriffs deputy last week. carrigan died after serving an eviction notice. worth opened fire killing carribegan. today's statement they said the officer's disciplined were not involved in planning or executing the eviction.

demoted to deputy and then he resigned. gore was placed on paid administrative leave. they say there were problems with the way gore notified carrigan's father. two women credit a higher power for their survival after a man burst into their home. >> it says to be thankful in all circumstances. >> reporter: that was the message they were trying to understand when their bible study took an unexpected turn. >> i kind of heard someone messing with my door. i went to dead bolt it to make sure. >> reporter: not a minute later a loud banging noise had them taking cover. >> i was like we have to get into the bathroom. house. >> reporter: they knew they couldn't hide in that bathroom

a plan to get out of the home. >> we were talking in fragmented sentences like window, door, stairs. >> reporter: they decided to make a break for the door. >> it was the best chance he wasn't going to see us or -- he was definitely going to hear us but not going to be able to get to us in time to do anything to us. >> reporter: they were immediately greeted by police but it would be another three hours before s.w.a.t. could walk the man out of their home and place him into custody. after having time to reflect they credit their faith for keeping them safe. >> it was something much bigger than us that got us out. it was very very scary. >> thanks. felon tier is asking for flights nonstop from denver to havana. others are asking to get in on the flights.

a dog doing his job in michigan is a star. she a border collie all decked out in goggles and a safety vest. he works along brian edwards any risks. >> he chases away birds, fox, you name it, anything we don't want to come in contact with aircraft. number one is to increase safety. we have noticed a reduction in birds, primarily the snowy owl. it is his favorite thing to chase. >> he doesn't get paid for his work at the airport but he is well rewarded, a lot of treats and a lot of praise. a toddler safe at home after a frightening walk.

>> reporter: people drive this road like it's a racetrack. in the middle of speeding traffic he saw toddler wearing nothing but a diaper and tee shirt standing in the median alone. >> it was probably like 15 seconds. i just put down everything, my mail and put it in drive and just took off straight for him. >> he brocked the traffic and safety. >> cars were going by and i just thought i would get over there as quick as i could because she could dart out in the middle of the road. >> reporter: they were looking for parents, learning the toddler was under the care of her grandfather who allegedly left her under a tv and went to a different room. the two-year-old walks right out the front door and is back with her parents tonight. >> it is mind blowing.

some of our mountain passes are a little bit gusty as well. some spots going to be windy today. ray. we have 50 in aspen and 57 over in grand junction. on our satellite and radar you can see a lot of high clouds not blocking our sunshine can. we are watching a couple of systems and we'll see a couple of those make land fall over the next couple of days. here in denver, high country we may see some of those impact us late on sunday into monday. we could use the moisture. we'll watch those closely. taking a look at our futurecast mostly sunny skies. duo have high clouds that are passing through. overnight tonight skies are clear. tomorrow morning we are waking up to maybe a few clouds and a little bit of sunshine and throughout the day tomorrow partly sunny and clearing in the afternoon. we do have winds increasing

again tomorrow. taking a look at temperatures for today pretty warm. it is 673 in greeley and 65 in boulder. as you head towards the eastern plains low to mid-50s. it is 49 in frisco and 62 in grand junction. for your hour by hour forecast fairly mild today across the 64 by 3:00. 60 degrees. we are mild into the evening hours with 40s and 50s. for tomorrow it is a little cooler. this weekend however we are back to the 60s. some cloud cover on saturday. it is a little bit breezy and sunday looks pretty nice. we have a chance of rain rolling in and wake up to rain on monday. we need moisture. if we could get a good shot of rain we'll take it.
