to be demoted resigned instead. after that, the sheriff decided to offer more of an explanation. the sheriff released this statement today saying they were disciplined for what happened in the aftermath of the incident. but that's not what one of the depose told us. >> reporter: this sergeant was six years. he said monday the sheriff told him he was being demoted. in a statement "not involved in the planning or execution of the eviction." in a phone interview, he said he and others have been working on this eviction for five weeks, and he made it clear it was deeply involved in the planning of the operation.

late deputy carrigan today. it was displayed at the high school for 13 hours, one for every year the deputy served. police arrest a man they say broke into homes while people were sleeping. these burglaries were in lewisville. john had 16 outstanding arrest warrants. >> reporter: and according to police he went into unlocked cars in the driveways and took the garage door openers. that's how he got inside their homes. this happened to two separate families living in a neighborhood in for. they say they were sleeping, they didn't know at the time what was happening. and they believed waldorph got inside to take

>> the car was unlocked, in the driveway. he took the clicker, opened up the garage, and because the door was not locked, he just went in, and the purse was right there. >> reporter: residents there on that street told us they feel much better knowing he's behind bars. he has a very long, 14-page criminal background check that we did. according to police, he had been wanted around the metro area for theft, accused of drug offenses, assault, other burglaries. he remains in jail tonight at the boulder county jail on suspicion of those charges. we know they're also looking at him as possibly having worked with others and maybe being part of a crime ring. we'll tell you more about that and you'll hear more from one of his victims. new developments in the

accused. keeping a woman captive. he was freed nearly 30 years ago. now he is accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a homeless woman in investigators say he kept the woman chained up in his home for months and repeatedly assaulted here. now the update to an investigation of a theft and police arrested three end. police believe they were in a car involved in a shooting at 26th and pierce earlier this week. tonight jamie leery has more from lakewood as police connect the dots. >> this is where that overnight car chase ended at 20th and aimes. police believe the three people arrested are connected to the suspects tied to a shooting and are hoping they can provide

a woman and two men taken into custody. after that late-night car chase. police noticed that their vehicle matched the suspect vehicle in the craigslist case. police attempted to pull it over but the driver didn't stop. a pit maneuver brought the chase to an end. police believe the three know who the shooter was and may lead to that person and anyone else involved. the shooting happened earlier this week. police responded to 26th and pierce. investigators say that he and another man showed up to the area to complete a craigslist transaction. they were forced out of their car by somebody who opened fire. another person drove off in the victim's car. police believe that transaction was drug related. as for the three involved in the case, they're

overnight car case. they'll continue to explore and pursue the investigation, hoping to find the suspects involved. the latest on that plane crash that killed two people yesterday morning. coroner has not been able to identify the victims. a witness sent pictures crashed. it sparked a grass fire acre. to the campaign trail, the top four republican preside candidates squaring off in another debate tonight. this one hosted by fox news. it is expected ted cruz and marco rubio will go hard at donald trump once again as they try to catch the frontrunner in the delegate race. trump continues to dominate that delegate count and the conversation. the presidential candidates are not

,, ,, new information about a 14-year-old girl shot in the head during that rampage in michigan a few weeks ago. her mom says abigail has opened her eyes and taken her first steps since the shooting. her heart beat stopped after the gunfire. her parents were even arranging to donate her organs when she squeezed her mother's hand. 64 -- today a court ordered evaluation.

counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder. reports of the shrinking denver city golf course may be exaggerated. activists claim the city is planning bulldoze 45 acres of the course to make way for a storm water detention pond. for many years, neighborhoods in north denver have had chronic flooding problems. another possibility is removing some properties in the coal neighborhood. >> it is a low-income, minority neighborhood. both have taken enough of the brunt of the development industry. and we feel that it's unjust to them to be asked to have their homes torn down. >> reporter: the city says only three private homes might be impacted. the other properties would be industrial or commercial. a decision on where to build that detention pond is due in april. a mobile restroom is rolling into denver. the city is testing the new program starting monday. that busy corner was

terrific shot, phil curry, our weather watcher. looks like and this is a sure sign of spring. from lafayette, all in bloom. temperatures for tonight, fairly nice around here, 20s and 30s over the eastern plains. teens and 20s for the high country. and for tomorrow, yep! we're gonna start to warm up even a little more. 60s and 70s over the eastern plains. 40 and 50 for the mountains. the west temperatures in the 40s, 50s, 60s, maybe nearing 70. mild temperatures in the mountains. maybe 4-8 inches by friday and saturday. look at our forecast now. partly cloudy tonight, 38 and 36 the overnight low. for tomorrow, partly cloudy, 63 and 61.

both announcing their plans to retire before or during the season. i can't picture peyton manning doing that. assuming the super bowl was his final game, but he couldn't say that before the game. now after almost a month, he still hasn't made a decision. maybe he's having a tough time hanging it up. has to be tough for guys like him. just ask kobe who last night played his final game at the pepsi center. >> i'm very fortunate to be able to kind of have that epiphany, and i feel very at comfortable with, very at peace with it. if it wasn't the right time, i'd still keep playing. you gotta go with your heart. you can't make these decisions
