the bogeys clubhouse may be moved and relocated. >> reporter: if you like to putter around the city golf course, keep on putting. neighborhood activists may be raising an unreasonable fear of a shrinking golf course based on city plans to build a pond that would collect storm water, except the pond will be built under the court, not on it. >> if they could do that and keep the integ rift the golf course, i'd be for it. >> reporter: there's also a concern the city might cut down 250 trees. >> this is a good golf course for the community. it's right in the city, and it's got the good views. >> reporter: but that 250 number city planners say is not accurate. instead some 150 smaller trees in the interior of the course might be moved. motivating this plan is a desire to bring a relief to flooding in another

for demolishing dozens of homes in the coal neighborhood. >> the coal neighborhood is a low-income, minority neighborhood. those neighborhoods have taken enough of the brunt for the development in the city. and we feel that it's unjust for them to be asked to have their homes torn down. >> reporter: late this afternoon the city told me that's not true. only three properties might need to be removed, and only industrial and commercial properties might be taken. >> reporter: so what next? april there will be a decision on where the two impact the coal neighborhood to a degree or else maybe the golf course to a lesser degree. the latest on a fight to save a historic home in the jefferson park neighborhood has failed. we went by that place today and found this empty lot. 18 town homes will be built in

the owner of the home sold it to a developer. neighbors were trying to have it declared a historic landmark. it would have prevented that home from being torn down. and developing now, a bold burglar sneaking into homes in lewisville. even with the owners inside. now police have arrested john waldorph. they think he is behind at least four burglaries in boulder county. lauren is tracking that story. how is the thief getting into the homes? >> reporter: he was described as very brazen by police because he went into unlocked cars and took the garage door opener. went inside while they were sleeping upstairs, and took personal belongings. this happened at two homes in a neighborhood in lewisville on fab 19th. the homeowners had no idea what happened until they

their things missing, were terrified by that realization, and they say now they are doing more to secure their belongings. >> car was unlocked in the driveway. he took the clicker, opened up the garage, and because the door was not locked to my house, he just went in and took -- the purse was right there. >> reporter: homeowners were also telling me they feel a sense of relief now that this guy is behind bars. he faces potential charges for a series. alleged crimes that span the metro denver area. that includes burglaries, theft, assault, and drug offenses. police also think he might be tied to a crime ring and wasn't working alone. so they are working to identify other suspects in this. we know for now tonight he remains in jail in boulder county. we're live in lewisville cbs 4 news. new information on a story

the shakeup in the park county sheriff's department following a shoolt out that killed -- shootout that killed a deputy. waggener says he disciplined two of his employees because of their actions after the deputy's death. sergeant well is55 redesigned before being demoted. the sheriff told us there were problems with how gore notified the deputy's father of his son's death. nate carrigan was shot and killed serving an evick notice -- eviction notice. >> the sheriff said the disciplinary actions were done to ensure continued smooth operations. new developments now about a former death row inmate accused of holding a homeless woman hostage for months and repeatedly raping her. this is the house police say it happened

a small western slope town, gateway, about 50 miles from grand junction. you can see all the debris around the suspect's home. investigators say he is accused of chaining up the woman. he is a former texas inmate. he was freed there 30 years ago. a city of denver employee who did no work for almost two years just got another raise. brian maass first told bus this paid leave for stewart shapiro. >> reporter: stewart shapiro we've learned that this assistant city attorney who was put on paid leave 20 months ago was just given another raise of about $4,000 a year for his job performance in 2015. even though he did nothing. >> why ever we paying a good so much to sit at home? >> reporter: it's something we tried to ask the city attorney about with little success.

a guy sitting at home on administrative leave gets a raise? >> we followed the due process, and the administrative -- we followed the normal administrative process for all employees. >> reporter: the city put shapiro on leave in july, 2014, saying they were reviewing his handle of the jamaal hutter case. the city agreed to pay the inmate $3.25 million for injuries he received in the jail. after that shapiro's salary increased 3%. and now the city has again said his job successful. even though he was ordered not to come to work and they just awarded him another 3% raise, bringing his salary to just over $147,000. that salary bump for sitting at home, doing nothing. >> where does the buck stop? at

>> the buck stops with me. >> so why don't you answer any questions about this? >> two days after our initial report, city attorney martinez lifted shapiro's suspension, told him he could start working again but from home. martinez still refuses to answer brian's questions about why shapiro was put on leave. what the 19-month-old investigation turned up, and why shapiro was allowed to go back to work. an update on sports authority filing for chapter 11 bankruptcy. the retailer plans to close or sell about 140 stores. it has 463 locations now in 41 states. and we've learned there are four stores in colorado closing. the latest closure to be announced, the sports authority in littleton at bowles and wadsworth. earlier we told you that the stores in boulder and greenwood village are closing, as well as the sports castle location in

a craigslist ad leads to a shooting in lakewood. now three people have been arrested. one person was shot at 26th and pierce earlier this week. police believe the transaction was drug-related. jamie leery reports it was a chase that ultimately landed three people in custody. >> reporter: in is where that overnight car chase ended at 20th and aimez in edgewater. police believe the three people arrested are connected to the suspects in a craigslist shooting and are hoping those three can provide a break in that investigation. you can see here a woman and two men have been taken into custody after that late-night car chase. police noticed that their vehicle matched the suspect vehicle in the craigslist case. police attempted to pull it over but the driver didn't stop. they ended up using a pit mover to bring the chase to an end. the three were taken into custody

are being held on charges related to the craigslist shooting. they believe they know who the shooter was. lakewood police will continue to push forward in the shooting investigation hoping to find the suspects involved in that. the first direct flight from denver to cuba is officially in the works. frontier says it has a compelling argument to get that route approved. we'll tellut other airline -- tell you the other airlines it's up against. the city of denver wants to add more public restrooms. that's where this trailer comes in. why the city thinks this plan is going to work. >> and high clouds but no moisture streaming across colorado. so let's look out in the pacific! a couple of systems out there! this is is the one

,, ,, ,, new details on an initiative to open more public restrooms in denver. starting monday, a mobile >> reporter: will be available at colfax and clarkson. it will have an attendant and three stall, open from noon to

neighborhood every night to be cleaned. the city says this is a pilot program and permanent restrooms might go in in the future. >> we have the option of moving this unit to other locations which is partially why we got a mobile unit rather than building in some of the fancy units you we want to get it right before we you can't move. denver plans to open restrooms in commons park and civic center park. 41 fear plans to fly -- frontier plans to fly seven routes to cuba. the department of transportation will be allowing 20 daily flights from the united states to cuba. other airlines including american, delta, and jet blue are trying to get in on that business. frontier says it is the only low-cost carrier trying to get flights to the island.

great event this is. time to kwhek in with ed -- check in with ed. any chance for some fresh snow? >> as the weekend goes on, we have a system coming in that could bring us rain on monday, and the mountain snow saturday into sunday. right now all we see in the way of moisture is high clouds pushing across the state. the big picture, you can see that ridge outlined in the clouds, and that's where most of the moisture is going. high pressure even holding back a cold front so much we're gonna stay mild for the next several days. back east that's where they got the problems. showers and thunderstorms, some with heavy rains and storms. four severe thunderstorm warnings in play right now. very heavy snows going on, and warmer air moving in too. rain mixed with snow moving off to the east. chilly, 36 for the high in new york city. and some of this warmer

former 1st round pick with a 442 foot 3-run bomb from center. another great play from nolan arenado. and cargo came into camp healthy this year, gets a hold of one here. rockies won this afternoon, 6-5. kobe bryant played his final game at the pepsi center last night, only 11 minutes which is gave him some time to sign some shoes which he handed to two young laker fans. afterwards, kobe told reporters they earned those shoes by name. nuggets won the game pulling away in the 4th. dj augustine scored 22 of his 2006 in the 4th. nuggets picked him up from oklahoma city before the trade deadline. augustine was barely playing for the thunder. he's now scored double digits in five of his seven games with denver! >> he is offensively so skilled.
