,, ,, ,, live from colorado's news channel, this is cbs 4 news at noon. right now what maybe a stunning development in the murders of nicole brown simpson and ron goldman. the los angeles police department confirms it is

found on the former estate of oj simpson. and that development tops our news this noon. a jury acquitted oj simpson of those murders back in 95. nicole brown simpson and ron goldman were killed in a brutal stabbing on june 12th of 1994. investigators never found a knife linked to the attack. now the los angeles police department confirms homicide detectives are testing a knife. the detectives have learned about just within recent months. it's linked to the estate where oj simpson lived at the time of the murders. that estate was raised back in 98. >> as i'm told, the off duty or retired officer was working in the area of the rockingham estate. and he claimed that an individual who claimed to be a construction worker provided him with this knife. claiming that it was found on the property. so he held on to it until just recently when we discovered

and we have now recovered it within the last month. >> the captain would not describe the knife saying a number of tests are being done, including blood and dna. because of double jeopardy, even if the knife were linked to the murder in simpson, he can't be charged with murder again. he's serving a 33 year prison sentence in nevada on armed robbery and kidnapping charges. a woman is heading to jail convicted of scamming at risk adults out of money by promising to fix kitchens. cbs 4's jamie leery was in court for the sentencing. emotions running high on this one jamie. >> 57-year-old susan hosa was sentenced to eight years in prison today. she was sentenced for swindling at risk adults to pay for her failing business. there are 27 victims in this case. a majority of them were present today talking about their losses.

than just a remodel job gone bad. a lot of these victims are elderly or disabled and needed the remodel to accommodate disabilities. some of them had to take out loans to finish the job that was poorly done or never finished at all. susan hosa owned kitchens to go with her husband herman. the seven counts of theft, 16 counts of felony theft and four counts of felony check fraud. the couple robbed peter to pay paul. they required payment up front and then did little or no work. together the victims lost more than $140,000. i'm trying to make a home for my disabled mother and my adopted daughter. and i was promised that the house would be liveable and nice. i'd have crown molding and all kinds of, you know, bells and whistles.

individuals late in the game. they knew they were all ready going to be filing bankruptcy. they left a single parent taking care of an elder family member with nothing. >> i spoke with her husband today who was there in support of his wife herman hosa. he defended his wife. she doesn't have a parking ticket on her record. but she was sentenced to eight years in prison today. she'll be headed there after this hearing. herman also told me he knows that they're coming for him next. when i left the courtroom, the restitution phase was continuing. so we're going to continue to follow this case. live in front of the adams county courthouse, jamie leery, cbs 4 news. copter 4 checked out a troublesome fire at an apartment building in estes park today. it started at 4:30 this morning. you could see flames in the building when the helicopter

even as recently at 11:00, we were told, there were still hot spots inside the building. out. 20 people including six children are out of their homes the red cross is helping to find them a place to stay at least two units in the bumming were heavily damaged. >> we've been talking about fire concerns all week. there could be needed moisture in your future. meteorologist dave aguilera is tracking the possibility of rain in colorado's weather center now. >> we have a couple sprinkles showing up on doppler 4,000. i don't think this will help much. but once we get into monday. that's when we might see a good dousing of water come through. we actually have a cold front moving through the state right now as we come to you here. it spreads from sterling all the way across denver, back towards grand junction, you can see the western slope is socked in with cloud cover here as well. and as we zoom in a little closer. the radar is picking up a little bit of light snow in the high mountains, the high foothills, and a little bit of

some of that may move into the metro area. we could have a sprinkle going through. i don't think it's going to amount to a lot. enough to spot up the car wash. but it will increase relative humidities. which is good when talking about fire danger. temperature wise, we're nice, we're in the 50s across the front range fort collins, greeley, and boulder, that cold front that came through will probably hold us there or in the lower 60s throughout the afternoon. 61 in stapleton. 57 in wheatridge now. coming up for the weekend, we're going to heat up and a better chance of rain coming in on monday. we'll outline that for you coming up in a matter of moments. a developing story out of lewisville where police say a burglar targeted homes even with people inside. they arrested 37-year-old john waldorf here. he's wanted in several counties. >> reporter: if a photo can speak a thousand words. his multiple mug shottings speak volumes. >> we've had significant

and capturing this guy for a while. >> reporter: he's accused of breaking into several homes in the lewisville area in the middle of the night. the owners in most cases were there at home sleeping when it happened. one victim still fearful spoke out but asked to remain anonymous. it's terrifying. my husband was out of town. i'm alone with my two young daughters. >> news of waldorf's arrest, a relief to her. but also to those in multiple jurisdictions who have warrants for his arrest. arapahoe county has three open cases. boulder, adams, and clear creek county have also been looking for him. he was out on bond and skipped town in most cases. police used surveillance photos and tips to track him down. >> he was using other people's identities. moving from one place to another. all the time. almost daily. >> he's now locked up in a boulder county jail where he'll likely stay pending a trial.

how about this show of support for the motorcycling community for two members killed on saturday afternoon. this is stunning. hundreds of bikers joined a procession to remember brian and jackie. brian and jackie were killed on saturday afternoon. hit on highway 83 in franktown. they were on their way to metanil low bikers. the driver who hit them was high and texting. she swerved into oncoming traffic. let's get to campaign 2016. a conversation in the race for the republican presidential nomination is down to a new low following a nasty debate last night. cbs's craig boswell shares the rhetoric. >> reporter: donald trump picked up where he left off from the debate. taunting opponents during a rally in michigan. >> little marco. little marco. lion ted cruz. >> it often evolved into a

well he's won the super bowl, he's been named the game's mvp. he had the broncos put the exclusive franchise tag on him. now von miller is ready for another challenge. a lot of reports out today that he'll trade cleats for dancing shoes and lace up for the next season of dancing with the stars. no doubt vaughn miller knows how to bust a move and football players generally do well in the reality competition. the official announcement should come tuesday. there he is with james gordon. that's the same day we should hear something from peyton manning about his future. today is the day he had to make himself available for a physical if the broncos decided to require it. as is written into his contract. manning and the team have to reach a decision on his future in denver or the team will have to pay him. that guaranteed $19 million starting wednesday. so what does all this mean for

it may be a case of let the bidding begin. reports indicate the broncos made a contract offer to him. but we don't know how close they are to a deal. other agents can start talking to osweiler's agent on monday and free agency officially begins next wednesday. so expect a lot of teams to be interested. a lot of football action as that week begins. and we will watch every moment. >> wednesday is a big day it seems like. >> if we get to wednesday. it could come before then. keep your eyes on it. what about moisture? >> monday maybe a big day for us. we have scattered showers in the forecast. which we haven't had that in a long time. >> what does that mean? >> i'm about to show you here. take a look at the mount evans view for you from downtown the mile high cam, the clouds are socked in, we have a lot of cloud control out there this afternoon. a cold front came through too. that's keeping the temperatures in the upper 50s now. 58 downtown.

with a northeast wind at 13 miles per hour. so earlier this morning it was going southwest, and it was warming things, now it's returned to the northeast. and that's going to cool us down. up in bailey, mike, our weather watcher there has 52 degrees now. and in silver plume, cynthia is coming in at 45 degrees. look at all the clouds we had this morning. then right there. that's where the cold front comes through. it's just sitting south of denver right now. we're seeing a little bit of light rain, light snow in the higher foothills up here. we may see a sprinkle of that move through the city. not a real wash out or anything. and there's dry air behind it as we look at the map here. then there's high pressure, a flat ridge if you will. not a real strong one pushing in over nevada and utah here. that will bring in heat for the weekend. and then our next batch of moisture will come through on monday and that may give us scattered showers. a little more water to play with there. that shows up in the future cast forecast there. this afternoon, a couple green

those are isolated sprinkles that may pop up. but they don't last long. tomorrow morning will be mostly clear, and then by afternoon we'll see more clouds around here. a partly cloudy day statewide tomorrow. not bad. we'll take you into sunday with this. sunday afternoon, snow moves in on the mountains here. and we might see low elevation rain as well as far as the eastern side of colorado goes. we're going to get a down sloping wind from that flow and that will boost temperatures up for sunday. and when the moisture slides through on monday, we'll see a chance of scattered showers around here. today we're looking at 60s and 70s. 60s out west. and mostly 50s and 40s in the high country. my forecast for denver, 62 today. high clouds. a sprinkle late. 33 the low tonight. partly cloudy skies, should be all right. breezy and mostly sunny on sunday at 70. and then everybody has to wish this, do a dance, get your car washed or something to bring this rain in on monday.

likes a little scratch. he loves being around people. he gets along with other cats. he'd love a home with a nice sunny window. visit ace in person at the dumb friends league quebec shelter. good luck buddy. that's a sweet cat. denver making plans to reduce the risk of damage in city park and surrounding neighborhoods. it prompted concerns about losing trees in the park and reducing the size of the golf course. howard talked with the city to clarify the plans. >> if you like to putter around the city golf course, the city says keep on putting. neighborhood activists maybe raising an unreasonable fear of a shrinking golf course. based on city plans to build a ten feet deep pond to collect storm water. except the city says the bond will be built under the course not only it. >> if they could do that and keep the integrity of the golf course, i'd be for it. >> there's a concern the city might cut down 250 trees.

for the community. it's been around for years. it's right in the city. it's got the good views of the mountains. >> that 250 number city planners say is not accurate. instead. 150 trees in the interior of the course might be moved. what's motivating the plan is the desire to bring a relief to flooding in the north end of damage. another alleged option for a pond calls for demolishing homes in the cole neighborhood. neighborhood advocates say that would be unfair. >> it's a low income minority neighborhood. those neighborhoods have taken enough of the brunt for the development in the city. and we feel it's unjust to ask them to tear their homes down. >> we were told that's untrue. only three properties would be removed. and only industrial and commercial properties might be taken. tomorrow the denver museum

doors for scientists and girls hoping to inspire the girls to consider new careers. this is the second year for girls in science. lauren whitney is one of the scientists sharing her enthusiasm with the girls. in her own clubhouse. she spent time talking to other scientists. include colleen carter. kids will be able to handle those items and learn lessons about other cultures. >> these are love sticks from the island of clou. >> tell us the story about this. >> if a gentleman was sweet on a girl he would take this and stick it into her hut. if she doesn't she pushes it back.
