,, welcome to the cbs 4 morning news at 4:30. it is march 8th. i'm britt moreno. thanks for joining us this morning. we finally get moisture we desperately needed. yesterday in golden we had yet snow fall. it was some much needed precipitation for the metro area. and it has been a long time coming. some five weeks but we did not see snow. could we get another dose of this moisture. let's get to lauren whitney tracking the forecast for us. >> good morning. we're off to a mild start and we're looking for

but here in denver, we should stay on the dry side. let's check with our temperature change. that system cooled us off as well. we're 15 degrees cooler in denver than and 12 everyone yesterday. the exception is taking a look at the temperatures. 27 in denver. 32 in boulder and fort collins. 34 in greeley. 23 in avon. 27 in aspen and 29 in grand junction and meeker. you may want to grab a warmer jacket this morning and looking at our satellite and radar, we're dry and a few clouds and we have a chance of a few mountain -- we'll take a couple more inches by noon, upper 40s and low 50s and spending the afternoon in the low 50s. partly sunny skies and fairly nice day. tomorrow, there's a chance for rain. we'll talk about that in a moment, but first let's check

>> good morning, lauren. looking across the denver metro area. we start from our cdot camera. you see a great drive you're waking up to. there's road work on i-70 and peoria. i-225 and i-70 and into the high country, britt, excellent drive. >> thank you joel. the city of denver will clean up homeless camps on downtown sidewalks and the goal is to target lawrence street and park avenue west. the people who live in some of these camps say there's no getting rid of homelessness in colorado and they'll move when the cleanup begins. >> for women, there's 75 women all crowded into one room in the holy overflow. >> i could live like this for the rest of my life and be happy. everyday i wake up with nothing in my pocket but at the end of the day, i've got

>> the city will move their belongings to a storage facility and many say they'll keep moving on. the broncos are getting ready the nfl frenzy. the team offered osweiler a three-year deal up to $45 million. other teams are expected to begin to offer him deals as well and he his agent have yet to comment on any of them. last night on xfinity live, we talked to him about other quarterbacks. >> patrick, i think he's going to resign with the jets. rg3 will be become available to kaepernick. i think brock -- when you look at the free quarterbacks out there, he's probably you're number one choice, and daniels is from the kansas city chiefs, but it's slim pickings when talking about

>> we will be finding the broncos moves and agencies and keep you up-to-date, but you can check out the broncos section on cbsdenver.com. yesterday, ones wiser was on the front page of tmz. it's video from an arizona owe-- he pushed the woman. police came and separated the two groups. new this morning, a commuter train derails in california injuring nine people. the tree -- the train hit a down tree on the tracks. and one of them crashed into the creek there. the train was traveling from san jose to stockton when the cars went off the tracks. one train car in the water. rescue crews had to help those out of that

>> we have no fatalities, but 14 people injured and 10 minor. 4 that are more serious. and we're taking all the people that were on the train that are uninjured to the alameda fairgrounds at this point. >> the investigation into what caused the tree to fall on the tracks is underway this morning. today, they'll be no train service in that area, but buses will be available to commuters. voters will get out today in ohio, michigan, and mississippi. for the republicans, 150 delegates are up for grabs. on the democratic sides, there's two contest. dawn champion has the latest. >>reporter: panning trump -- >> cruz is a liar. >> trump leads cruz by 80 delegates. cruz claims he's the

buying a home with a white fence used to be the american dream. 30% of americans who live in the suburbs surrounding the country's biggest city rent their house. researchers say it's because it's more affordable. there's live nfl stream games. there's -- thursday football on television. the nfl is selling streaming rights separately. amazon and verizon are interested. it's national pancake die. i-hop is giving away free short stack pancakes until 7:00 p.m. they're hoping the people will make charitable donations for the free pancakes. free pancakes and charities. >> i love breakfast food at all times. thank you jill for that.

other rules for parks in open spaces. county commissioners are expected to vote. that includes popular places like hall ranch and lions. also on the proposal, rangers could ticket people who leave their pets inside hot cars. it happens more often than you think. mostly because visitors did not realize dogs are not allowed on some of the trails. >> it's hot out and we get complaints from park visitors and feedback from individuals who see the dogs in the cars that it's just too hot or they don't have adequate ventilation or water. >> pets are not allowed in three boulder parks. if approved, the rules will take effect within a few days. people could be fined up to $300 for violations. and the first of its kind surgery in the united states. why a young woman underwent a uterus transplant, coming up. if you have a news tip or

welcome back. doctors have transplanted a uterus into a woman who was unable to have children. this is the first such transplant in the united states. here's kathy walsh with more. >>reporter: at 16, this woman identified as lindsay was told she couldn't bare a child. >> from that moment on, i have prayed that god allow me the opportunity to experience pregnancy. >> lindsay was born without a uterus and she's the first patient in the u.s. to receive a uterus transplant.

passing through thick aurora soup today. we still love the pictures on twitter from astronaut scott kelly. he's back on earth. this was a good one from last night, my first steak at a restaurant on earth after 1,000 meal and a bag and a year in space, it was a nice taste of change. you know what lauren, you cannot blame him for going with the steak dinner. >> i think that was probably the best steak anyone had ever had if you had to eat bag meals. >> we're cooler to start the day. the system came through and dropped our temperatures so this morning, we're cooler and we're going to stay on the cooler side this afternoon. 15 degrees cooler in denver. 9 degrees different than yesterday. 15 for leadville. 13 degrees different in avon. that put s s us at -- that puts us at 27. 35 in pueblo. 34 over in ray. 27 in steamboat. 29 in craig. 29 in grand junction.

skies this morning. a few clouds to start the day, but we're we had stayed dry across the state. snow. noon hour, it pops up into our foothills and high eastern plains we should stay dry. you may pick up a couple of snow showers and you could see that snow continue through the afternoon and model was showing that we're not going to see much. maybe two to four inches. throughout the overnight hours, we wake up to a few clouds, sunshine, and then we have a chance of a few little showers tomorrow afternoon and evening, denver. a brief thunderstorm as well. taking a look at our temperatures for today. 52 in greeley. eastern plains, you remain mild with upper 50s and low 60s. mountain areas -- 54 over in grand junction. so for your hour-by-hour forecast today, noon, 49 degrees. mostly

we have a chance of a few clouds rolling in later on this afternoon and evening. overall, today is nice and the winds are calmer. tomorrow, a chance of late showers and spotty. 60 by thursday and fairly dry and warm as we head into the rest of the week, weekend. let's check with joel. good morning. >> lauren, good morning. it has been a couple of weeks since we've seen this video. crews are trying to repair the road after the rock slide. one lane in east direction is open. cdot warned we could see full closures like this one as repairs went forward. it will be closed from 9:00 in the morning until 4:00 in the afternoon so crews can put the safety netting in place. this is i-25 and jewel. nice and wide out through the bridges this morning. a quiet drive, but we have one trouble spot here and that's lane restrictions that are in place

ongoing construction and britt, we have ongoing struck at i-70 and havana. >> joel, thank you. the irs scam is back and it's big. we've heard from many of you saying you've gotten the call. law enforcement agencies have seen a spike. i took a look at why we can't put a stop to this scam. >> my name is mason. >> jim got the voicemail. >> enforcement action with the u.s. treasury. >> linda got it twice in my number is 619-924 -- >> art got the voicemail and called back. >> i was surprised to find a voice that answered department of the treasure. >> they are not the only ones. >> my daughter in-law, heidi said that she has received two of those calls. >> the irs scam is everywhere. thieves accused of owing back

you don't pay up immediately. >> the thing that surprised me was they did leave a voicemail and a number to call back. >> the scam is involving to use -- >> i'd like [indiscernible] and help us to help you. >> the scammers can put out thousands of calls and need a few people to take the bait. colorado is 13 in the nation for following this. the irs scam is investigated and says 100 coloradans reported losing $600,000 since 2013. >> it works. >> tim assist in the investigation of these scams. >> is it easy to track down these guys? >> it's difficult. >> they're overseas and using disposal phones and technology

>> it looks like a legitimate number from a known irs or banking official. >> we tried calling the phone numbers left on the voicemails. >> the number has been changed -- >> even these numbers don't always lead to the crooks. >> those numbers are be forwarded onto a secondary number as well that make it even more difficult for us to track. >> while they have been arrest and convictions in the irs scam, investigators say education is the best way to stop the calls. >> obviously this is a phony. i've watched channel 4 and saw your report on this, i knew this was it. >> it happens to a lot people. if you get one of these calls, law enforcement does want to hear from you and you can go to cbsdenver.com on information on how to file a report. >> time for the sports break. >> manning said yesterday, grateful is the word that comes

,, welcome back. rescuers help snow snow mobilier's after they got caught in a storm. only our cameras were there as the men came out of the trail head yesterday morning. they were -- they had been stranded since monday. >>reporter: boston colorado back country, four snow mobilier's are reunited with family and friends. >> [indiscernible]. i had to go over the next [indiscernible]. that was a good ride. >> got a little too thick in the trees and too dark. we decided to stop. >> search and rescue crews feared the worse. the group were snowmobiling in an area deadly for avalanches. they didn't know what they would find. using cell phone pinging technology and good old fashion love, search crews found the men

>> all four were together and god knows if they're all four together, they'll be okay. >> searchers say the group was prepared with a survival kit allowing them to build a fire and a small -- after becoming lost in the dark and snow. >> i'm sure my wife is going crazy. >> it's a good reminder that conditions can change in an instant and the snow mobilier's will tell you being prepared is the difference between life and death. >> that was matt krosehr reporting. the searchers were finishing up another search when they got a call about these snow mobilier's. the safe recuse of a dog that spend four days trapped on a -- that happened in utah. it happened with no time to spare. police told sadie's owner, the ice was melting quickly and there wouldn't be solid ground for her to stand on. when
