. new information on a cyclist killed during the ironman try at long in boulder. the driver won't likely be charged. the woman was hit over the weekend u.s. 36 near broadway. >> she is eye identified as 34- year-old michelle walters of nebraska. tom mustin following the investigation. what have you learned about the accident so far? >>reporter: is michaele walters riding her bike in the intersection she swerved away from the cones into on coming traffic. that split second mistake may have cost her her life. >> it was really disconcerting. >>reporter: ellen heart is still shaken after the tragic death f a fellow athletes during sunday's ironman bowled. we're just hort broken. >>reporter: she's a world class athlete competed more than 100 try at honest.

heart was 30 miles into the 112- mile bike portion of the events near highway puff and broadway. she came across a shattered bike of 34 year-old hish el waters. the nebraska woman died after being hit by a truck during the competition. >> there was still debris and rescue vehicle and blood on the highway. >>reporter: investigators say the bike lanes were clearly marked. >> the person just left that lane and jumped into the path of this truck and was hit by the truck or run over. >>reporter: trooper nate read said the driver 55-year-old tim lacey stopped he was not speeding or drinking and will probably not be charged. there were 1700 participants. the course was exceptionally safe. >> it was a difficult intersection but it was clearly marked. >>reporter: there have been four cases of cyclists killed in boulder county in the past

alice carver has developmental disabilities. she and her dog never made it home but she was found a few hours ago at a salon in superior. just how that girl ended up so far from home. >>reporter: this is where alice was dropped off with her dog late last evening. this is that field that she took off in and she says to police she said that as she was in her walk her dog got off his leash and she went to chase after him. it was got lost disoriented prompting that near 18 hour search. by air, lands and water crews desperately searched for 14- year-old alice caver. >> 6:20 alice mom dropped her and her dog off. >>reporter: bloodhounds scoured the westminster hills dog park where alice was last seen and nearly 18 hours after

superior. >> alice is diagnosed with autism, a high functioning type of autism, but she has a low functioning intellect. so she understands some right and wrong, understands some directional type things but again she's not functioning at a 14 year-old level. >>reporter: investigators say it is not uncommon for alice to be allowed to walk her dog alone , but unusual for her not to return home. >> this is a regular routine for alice. her mom will very often drop she walk through the dog park up to her home a few blocks east of the dog park. >>reporter: again alice said she just got disoriented when looking for her dog. she's told police she slept in the grass before completing that near 10-mile journey all the way to superior where she was found. police tell us she was taken to a nearby hospital as a precaution. her dog chip, however is still missing. we're live in westminster kelly workman cbs 4 news. thanks kelly.

fire that forced skydivers to jump out of a plane earlier than expected. happened yesterday in colorado springs. the company says the plane struck a bird shortly after taking off. 13 skydivers, parachuteed out from only 3,000 feet up in the air. usually they wait until the plane is at 12,000 feet. the aircraft did make a safe emergency landing and no one was hurt. developing now denver police plan to racial data from some officer interaction with citizens. karen, the chief sounds likes he's hoping to roll this out soon. >>reporter: exactly, jim. possibly by the end of this year. but right now there's no definitive plan on how this would be done. we do know the information would be used to look for any biased policing within the department. now the denver police chief robert white did say, laid out his thoughts on how the data

press conference earlier this morning. while nothing has been decided just yet he says race and other information would likely be collected from suspicious traffic and pedestrian stops. >> there needs to be something take can be done through technology. the officer can make a traffic stop and then will simply be able to get back into his car and hopefully through his computer click the box to say this is where i made the stop this is why the stop was made. this is the race of the individual and this is how the stop took. something along those lines. >>reporter: now the police chief says given the current climate that his officers are facing this type of information is more important than ever when it comes to community accountability. we'll have much more from the police chief coming up on cbs 4 news at 10:00. live in denver karen denver cbs 4 news.

contained. has burned between 200 and 300 acres firefighters will stay on scene throughout the night to continue mopping it up. this is just one of several grass fires that have broken out today. it's hot and dry in the metro area it's different on the eastern plains. there are intermittent shower. meteorologist justin mcheffey checking in. what are you seeing around you so far? >>reporter: we do have a couple of showers to our south. but even out here on the plains we've got the tumbleweeds we've got the very dry vegetation. lighting and that could easily spark a grass fire. this has been a pretty slow moving shield of rain with lightning that did for a time produce a flash flash flood warning in south el paso county. looking north believe it or not that is very far away. but those storms are riding right along the wyoming border to the north of sterling. take a look out our eastbound drive on highway 86 about two

strikes and a pretty electrical storm. not many of these were severe. we did have a little hail we did have some winds but more than anything this was a lightning making and probably will be until about sunset tonight. ed greene coming out here live we can see him in the distance. how do those storms look on radar. >> they look exactly as you're seeing all to the south you see heavy showers around thunderstorms. there's a little one north of sterling but denver not seeing much of anything at tall. and this is going to be i'll tell you by how much coming up. vail resorts is buying big up in canada. we'll have details of this billion dollar acquisition. for the second time in a month an airline has a major computer outage. the ripple effect it's having on flights worldwide. the broncos released their first official depth chart plus look who's back on the practice field. aqib talib out on practice.

the airline says a power outage around midnight knocked out its systems worldwide by 7:00 in morning things were back up an running delta struggling to cheer the backlogs of passengers stranded by all the canceled flights. at dia there were long lines at the delta ticket counter all morning frustrated passengers said they had no idea what was going on. >> so what has delta told you so far? >> not really anything concrete. it could happen toda your free to buy another ticket and they will refund your ticket. >>reporter: you might remember last month southwest airlines had a computer outage that caused flight cancellations it took that airline days to recover. >> developing now vail resorts is buying up the largest ski area in north america. the whistler black comb resorts in british columbia hosted much of the 2010 vancouver winter

expansion for rail resorts. >>reporter: jim this is a big deal once this is all complete vail resorts will own 4 of the five largest resorts in north america. people who have passes it means they won't just be able to be at breckenridge but soon they will be able to ride and ski up at whistler. whistler will honor their current season tickets and their deals, but by the 2017, 2018 season they will be us that this opens up vail resorts at colorado destination to as a lot of visitors from the asian australian markets riders who already attends whistler. that billion plus dollar deal is getting mixed reaction though. >> yeah. it sounds really exciting. we've been epic pass holders for probably maybe 6, 7, 8 years and enjoyed it. >> they are going to

. as usual storms bouncing around the front range anything close to denver ed? >> not a whole lot that's close to denver. you see a couple south highlands ranch rocksboro might see a shower. nothing going on in denver that's the way it's been for the last several days we've had good moisture across the states. heavy showers and thunderstorms we had to the south that's just been the situation. numbers lightning strikes 312 that's what we've been seeing recently. the lightning strikes 400 last hour so they are starting to die down a little bit the storms are dying down as well. here's the hour by hour forecast. those storms just died down overnight. now i'm going to continue to run it for you tuesday just some scattered showers maybe denver gets one going to be isolated in nature. wednesday little greater chance for those showers and thursday even a greater chance for
