metro area. we caught this lightning near dia. downtown we saw some thunder and heavy lightning too. justin mcheffey live in denver for us tonight. where are those storms now? >> reporter: generally speaking all of those are well east of denver. about 7:30, 8:00 pm, a line of thunderstorms moved through denver and produced just enough cloud to ground lightning to make us all remember what season it still is. most of these are east of greeley in a wrapping down toward the south and west near the colorado springs area. generally gonna produce a little heavy rain on the plains tonight. and perhaps some cloud to ground lightning. that was the threat today and could be the threat once again tomorrow. and given the fact we don't exactly have a ton of moisture on a lot of the ground surfaces, we could easily see some of those brush fires spark up underneath some of those

a raging fire destroys a home in lakewood, apparently sparked by people using a tester to light cigarettes. stan bush live tonight along west mexico. the house pretty much gutted. >> reporter: absolutely. and according to the preliminary investigation, that toaster was used to start a cigarette or the ignition point could have been a cigarette in a couch that was in the garage. you can take a look right now and see t that fire did rip through the entire home. fire spilled out and caught some of the cars on fire. once this fire got started, there was very little to stop it. >> reporter: flames crawled out of a house fire that was so smoky at times, firefighters struggled to see where to spray. meg porter lives across the street and called 911. >> all of a sudden after that, i'm saying seconds after that, it burst into huge flames >> reporter: she took this
