metro area. we caught this lightning near dia. downtown we saw some thunder and heavy lightning too. justin mcheffey live in denver for us tonight. where are those storms now? >> reporter: generally speaking all of those are well east of denver. about 7:30, 8:00 pm, a line of thunderstorms moved through denver and produced just enough cloud to ground lightning to make us all remember what season it still is. most of these are east of greeley in a wrapping down toward the south and west near the colorado springs area. generally gonna produce a little heavy rain on the plains tonight. and perhaps some cloud to ground lightning. that was the threat today and could be the threat once again tomorrow. and given the fact we don't exactly have a ton of moisture on a lot of the ground surfaces, we could easily see some of those brush fires spark up underneath some of those

a raging fire destroys a home in lakewood, apparently sparked by people using a tester to light cigarettes. stan bush live tonight along west mexico. the house pretty much gutted. >> reporter: absolutely. and according to the preliminary investigation, that toaster was used to start a cigarette or the ignition point could have been a cigarette in a couch that was in the garage. you can take a look right now and see t that fire did rip through the entire home. fire spilled out and caught some of the cars on fire. once this fire got started, there was very little to stop it. >> reporter: flames crawled out of a house fire that was so smoky at times, firefighters struggled to see where to spray. meg porter lives across the street and called 911. >> all of a sudden after that, i'm saying seconds after that, it burst into huge flames >> reporter: she took this

engulfed. neighbors poured onto the streets, worried that the fire could spread to their home. lauren heath shot this video,inging it would be the last time she would be inside her house. >> i was just terrified! i was worried that people were gonna die in there. >> reporter: four people were inside the home when the fire started, and one ran back inside. he was likely trying to rescue the family dog that firefighters found hiding under a bed in the basement. the homeowner was overwhelmed. >> reporter: once the fire was out, it revealed a home gutted from the garage to the living room and through the roof. luckily no one was seriously hurt. we do understand that two people in the home were taken to the hospital with smoke inhalation. and another person suffered minor burns. the house does appear to be a total loss

district attorneys frustrated that men found repeatedly drunk behind the wheel are not getting harsh sentences. this man was arrested earlier this year and recently sentenced. lauren dispirito is live at the justice center. >> reporter: for his latest dui, carmack posted bond immediately after his arrest. he didn't spend the night in jail, and his sentence didn't any time here behind bars either. >> how much have you had to drink tonight? >> couple beers were. >> reporter: police camera shows carmack's six dui arrests. earlier this year in aurora. >> i was speeding >> reporter: when prosecutors asked a judge to sentence him to four years in community corrections, he got probation
