welcome to the cbs4 morning news at 430 tim tip. it's thursday, august 11th. i'm britt moreno. thanks for joining us this morning. football is back as the broncos are on the road for the team's first game bears. much more on that coming up. it's the first day for students in the cherry creek school district. let's find out what the weather is like for this first week of school. chris spears is managing that. good morning, we are starting off comfortable in the

72 in la junta. still warm down there in the arkansas river valley. we have a pocket of 70s through wheat ridge grazing the north west side of downtown denver. 63 in stapleton and 54 in decono. 66 degrees from showers hanging overnight near the new mexico state line. they will be on their way out but we could get some thunderstorms this afternoon. if you're heading out on the roads this morning we're going to have construction for you. a couple cones but won't be too bad. this is the northbound direction

there near yale, there's flashing lights. past hamden there's a line of yellow. as you head in the northbound direction you see yellow and side street trouble spots as you travel at 17th and chambers. there's some signage on the road and 18th and logan there's an accident and stalled vehicle and that's obstructing traffic. thank you for that. this is the news maryland this morning. dozens of people are hurt after an apartment fire in silver spring. more than 160 firefighters responded after a possible explosion in an apartment building. fire officials say up to 25 people are hurt and about seven this morning are still unaccounted for. the extent of the others are unknown as far as injuries are concerned. at least two firefighters are expected to recover from their

explosion was likely caused by natural gas. rtd is hoping to do more troubleshooting to keep the train moving without problems. yesterday another issue plagued the a-line. karen tells us about a damaged cable that cut power to the tracks and frustrated passengers problems with the a-line means problems for travellers headed to and from the >> they said the electrical systems on the train aren't working. >> reporter: a spokes person says a power line was damaged causing a train to get stuck on the tracks again. since launching in april they have seen dozens of disruptions. joe an and her girls were among those waiting to be rescued today. >> we just got on the train and then we heard loud noises. i guess the thing that connects

>> how was the two hour wait? not fun. >> reporter: crews worked to repair the damages, passengers were stopped and moved to buses and this caused some to miss their flights. >> we did not expect it. i did get a call from a rel tiff and he let me know there was a delay so we were prepared but it's a hassle. >> they have a lot of problems to work out. >> that was karen reporting for us. the a-line had issues for days due to operational difficulties. police in toronto stopped a man from carrying out a suicide bomb threat. police say 23-year old aaron driver was killed in a police operation. he was acting alone to plant a suicide bomb plot on a major unidentified canadian city.

the fetuses of mice were exposed to the drug and found it damaged the ovaries in female fetuses. it's considered safe for women in their second and third trimesters. some women are more likely to have successful pregnancies using frozen embryos. the new study looked at 1500 infertile women and compared using fresh. here's the latest on a ban of public sodas in public high school. they are allowing diet sodas back in school after a seven-year ban. some members say bringing back diet soda is going backwards but others argue parents don't want schools to be their children's nanny. >> they expect us to do what we can to protect kids.

drive by. someone makes a b-line for the donald trump sign and check out this dainty thief. the most recent theft involved a runner in hils dale new jersey. she jogged past the house and came back and picked up the sign and took off. when the video went public she turned herself in but the sign owner declined to press charges. meanwhile, the sign was plucked by a masked woman. >> respect my opinion to vote for who i wanted to. >> reporter: this artist created a giant t. someone set it on fire in the middle of the night. >> it's going to be huge. >> reporter: this house in indianapolis lost a dozen trump signs in three weeks. very few hillary signs are reported stolen.
