news breaking in maryland. we want to take you the this story now. dozens of people are hurt and seven unaccounted for including a few firefighters after an apartment fire in silver springs. this is a live look of the building here on fire. you see part of the building has collapsed and people are on the scene surveying the damage there and the roof completely caved in in parts as well. we're going this story. that massive fire -- here's an earlier look. 160 firefighters responded after a possible explosion happened. it was a four story apartment building in montgomery county and it all happened around midnight. up to 30 people are hurt and again seven still unaccounted for. the extent of the others injuries are still unknown although we do know at least three firefighters are expected to recover from their injuries.

in those temperatures. there are a couple showers out there on doppler 4000 grazing our southeast corner. these are left overfrom over from overnight storms. if you travel along highway 125 it's closed due to a rolled semi near walden. take 127 andba plane is up and running. that's the good news but there was another problem that forced passengers off the a-line and on to a bus yesterday. jamie leary is live at union station with the details for us. tell me everything is better this morning, jamie. >> reporter: everything is running just fine this morning. the first train left on time at 3:15 but the a-line has

opened on april 22nd. yesterday's power outage left passengers waiting for bus service nearly two hours afternoon. this picture was taken by a state representative yesterday. it appears to be a broken piece of equipment on the rtd train. a family described loud noises when the outage happens and they say the piece of equipment connects the train to the electric cable and it just off. yesterday's outage happened around 2:30 in the afternoon at 61st and pena and passengers were bussed to the airport after that. despite the issues the train had, one man shares a sentiment that many passengers share about the a-line issues it's a great ride. it's 40 minutes and fast and it's five minutes from my house. no traffic. it's a great system. >> reporter: it likely won't happen this morning while you're

you thinking then? >> i'll take the bus like everybody else and life goes on. >> reporter: life goes on. service was restored at 9:30 last night and everything is running smoothly this morning. live from the station jamie leary, cbs4 morning news. police in toronto stopped a man from carrying out a suicide bomb plot. swat teams were on scene yesterday afternoon and the 23-year old was killed in what they are calling a police operation. he was acting alone to plan a suicide bomb plot on a major unidentified canadian city. police were familiar with him because of alleged support for an islamic terrorist group. lawyers are facing a judge today in a hearing on a competency evacuation for their client. robert is not expected in court but he's facing charges in the deaths of three people at a colorado springs planned

very light though, way down south and overnight storms in new mexico still hanging on so this may grease the south eastern corner through the day today. we are watching a little cool front in wyoming and as it splips into colorado today, it may kick up a few showers and storms northeast of the city and they could turn strong to severe. watching the drive closely this morning as you make your way from aurora into denver. some slowing along i-225 as you i-270. here's our c-dot cam this morning. this is our tech center cam in the northbound direction making your way to downtown seeing pockets of volume. false returns in the eastbound direction of u.s. 36 but along i-25 at c-470 looks like most of the paving work has been picked up. charges are pending for a

trump tower in manhattan yesterday. he's reportedly undergoing a psychological evacuation. we have learned more about this man. >> reporter: emergency service detectives saw their window of opportunity and grabbed it. snatching a man who climbed the trump tower and ending a dramatic scene in manhattan wednesday afternoon. >> i was waiting for the perfect me where i'm able to grab him safely. >> reporter: the 19-year old shimmied up the side of the 58 floor glass covered sky scraper using suction cups and a harness. he dodged police during the three hour game of cat and mouse. >> we wanted to proceed slow and didn't want the individual to fall so we wanted to do it in

seen an increase in rattlesnakes because of the hot dry weather we have gotten. animal control officers say the reptile is not fully adult yet meaning it is more dangerous. that's because the snake will inject its venom to whatever it strikes as a baby. police are reminding people to be careful and keep an eye out for snakes especially if you have small dogs or children. this morning it's 64 outside. for years the state board of education has banned the selling of sodas in colorado high school but the long time band could be changing cht why the board is considering the switch in policy. first pre-season game is tonight. what you need to look out for as

sodas in colorado public high schools. the state board of education debated allowing diet sodas back in school. some members saying bringing back diet soda is going backwards, others argue parents don't want schools to nanny their children. >> i believe parents expect us to do what we can to protect kids. >> i know a lot of parents that are tired of schools dictating what their children eat, see, learn.>> aligning with federal policy and allowing the soda back in schools but it needs to be unanimous to pass so another vote will be taken at the september board meeting. democrat hillary clinton will deliver an economic speech in detroit today and she also responded to a controversial comment that donald trump made harnessing the u.s. constitution a few days ago. here's brian webb with the latest on the campaign.

morning. jonathan has 50 in telluride and he says it's crisp this morning. this pressure drags into the great basin as the trough goes by today. it will help drag a cold front sitting at the surface in wyoming right down into northern colorado. we should call it a cool front, not cold front because it's not a major batch of cooler it is cooler. as we look through the afternoon, a usual dose of showers and storms popping over the high country late morning and early afternoon and as they pull to the east, more energy out here on the north eastern plains so we could see a couple storms get strong and severe. fort collins is included in the area near sterling and akron and they will roll off into nebraska and kansas later tonight. here's the risk area for a couple strong storms, maybe even severe in fort collins and

similar situation along i-76. here we are across the denver metro area. i-225 nice and wide open. residual slowing near king carol as they continue paving operations there. tonight is the night the broncos take on the bears in chicago. it is the team's first pre-season game and the quarterbacks. it seems as though the broncos are keeping their pick close to the vest. they named two co-starters. >> reporter: yes, the wait is finally over, britt. broncos coach says he wants to see how his quarterbacks perform in games before he picks his starter. tonight he finally gets the chance. sanchez will start and play through the first quarter. trevor siemian gets the second quarter and paxton lynch is

of the game. here's what kubiak wants to see. he is most often focused on this issue -- he wants his quarterbacks to keep the offense moving and get in and out of the huddle smoothly and make sure everyone is at the right place in line of scrimmage and avoid pre-snap penalties. the other big item is showing a command of the offense. they can show this if they p drives together and finish with touchdowns instead of field goals and perhaps, most importantly, take care of the ball and avoid nasty turnovers. if you're looking past the quarterback, here's a couple other things to keep in mind. backer and hillman may be listed as code two line backs but that's not how they're lining up at practice. booker is the clear number two. look for him to get work

night wondering who the punter will be, it's one of the most heated topics at camp. they want a punter who can pin opposing offenses deep in their own territory. the choice between veteran kol quit matters. britt? you know this is not the night to watch and see the veterans out there on the field. it's the rookies who need the play time and prove that they belong on the if we just go psychologically here, this has to be a lot of pressure on these guys. >> it is. this pre-season is different for the broncos than usual. a lot of times it's like pre-season it doesn't really matter but there's so much at stake going up to starters like the starting quarterback and rookies like booker who may be taking a spot from veterans so it matters to both rookies and

have to wonder if they will do more of this in the future. >> that's the scary thing about football. they say football is a business. in a couple weeks they have to be down to 53 men and there's 90 men on the roster so they have to cut 40 guys that are extremely talented and deserve a spot but may not be room for

right now it looks like these storms stay north and east of denver. things change so it's a forecast we will watch for you through the afternoon. >> i have an outdoor concert tonight so i'm counting on that going to the north and east. this is our c-dot cam. look at the slowing we have southbound along i-25. it's just a slow nightmare southbound coming into town. not seeing that similar slowing from the west in the direction to i-25. not too bad at 120th. some false returns not that slow eastbound along i-270 loading up as well flt i suspect from what we saw in the cameras that the southbound drive time is continuing to tick upwards. thank you for that. douglas county passes new marijuana grow regulations. the ordinance is in response to complaints from citizens who have discovered large grows in their neighborhoods.
