we're keeping an eye on storms. you can see a thunderstorms trying to produce some rain over denver right now. >> some pretty angry clouds are there. is there any rain in them. >> there's a little bit of rain and lightning. they're not severe but they're taking a little longer to get started. we have thunderstorms over mainly the northern part of the state and some of those are getting kind of close to the thunderstorms shooting up from confer and bailey all the way up to cheyenne. as we zoom into the denver metro we have a good line of thunderstorms coming in from evergreen into golden and wright along i70 there. so we will see some rain coming through downtown. and the lightning is just getting started. so probably haven't heard the rumbles yet but they're on the way. and from jamestown up to lions we have pockets of heavy rain

rains as well. coming up i'll let you know how long these storms will linger into the evening and i have news of a bigger cool down coming for tomorrow. i'll be back in just a few minutes. >> sounds good dave. developing tonight. the train to the airport is stopped in its track for the second day in a row. electric power issues have passengers taking a detour by bus. this outage has now passed seven hours. >> that's certainly delaying passengers getting to and from the dia. the problem is with the r line between the 61st and pena station and the terminal at dia. rick sellinger at that station. any progress yet? >> i'm afraid not. the trains here are as far as they go at the moment. the passengers get off the train and then they have to get on buses to complete their journey. that may not sound like a big deal. but those that have to go to dia daily, it can be a major inconvenience for them.

line. rtd is saying a similar problem happen today. >> rtd stands for reason to drive. >> but there probably aren't many officials who find this amusing. as you can imagine this has been going on for several hours now for a second day in a row a delay of that line. and when they will resolve that problem and if it'll be a long term resolution we do not know. live at the 64 rick sellenger. patrick wall has resigned as the head coach of the colorado avs. >> here we are just a few weeks from training camp and wall announcing his vision to the team didn't match that of the front office. certainly seems to have caught everyone off guard. >> it's been a frustrating year for two years for wall and the players. no one saw this coming. the colorado avs need a new coach and they need them now

the play off it is last two years. it appears differences with wall and other team management didn't go the same way. in a statement he wrote to achieve this the vision and coach these conditions are not currently met. the avs now left scrambling as august not a time when many good coaches are available for hire. >> those guys are old friends. we'll see what joe thinks. in an effort to raise the minimum wage in colorado. the initiative will be on the ballot this november. the proposed constitutional amendment would raise the

two antifraking proposals may not make it into the november ballot. we showed you the two empty boxes that didn't contain signatures. there's enough chance the petitions have enough signatures to make it on the ballot, shaun boyd has getting attention like they already made it on the ballot. based on the number of signatures they say they gathered, the chance of this measure making the ballot is remote. they did so with great fanfare as this video from frak free colorado shows.

here across the eastern plains. so you see the thunderstorms. they were light and forming and now starting to get going. nothing severe yet but we do have a little pocket of pretty good rain. moderate to rain moving right through the metro area right now. that's downtown denver right there. and you already hear the thunder rumbling if you're in downtown areas. not a huge amount of lightning but it is out there. you may want to stay inside for a little while. until these storms pass by. bigger thunderstorms also love land, greeley, firestone. those will be moving in your direction. they'll be south of fort collins as well. another block of thunderstorms from remer down to fort morgan with lightning enbedded in some of those as well. and they are welcomed thunderstorms because we were warm today. not as hot as it has been. but it was still pretty warm. 89degrees in denver. we made it to boulder. pueblo cooled down to 97 degrees today. temperatures will be more

two people dead following this massive fire at an apartment building in maryland. started with a large explosion that sent dozens of people were hurt. adam may is joining us tonight, some people are still missing we hear. >> reporter: absolutely. this blast was huge and firefighters have not been able to pinpoint the amount of people that are unaccounted for. but we have been speaking with family members who have been waiting for news all day long. we've identified three people are still missing and that includes a 3-year-old boy.

story apartment complex in silver spring maryland was massive. shaking the surrounding area and scattering debris a couple hundred feet away. >> at first we heard a big boom. like a big loud noise and my aunt went outside and checked. and then she saw like a lot of fire outside. >> reporter: hundreds of firefighters rushed to the chaotic scene just before midnight. >> firefighters responded and were met with heavy fire conditions and multiple rescues to be made. ey make multiple rescues and transported 31 people to the hospital. >> reporter: investigators have not determined what caused the explosion. three firefighters were hurt but have always been released from the hospital. several people remain missing as relatives wait for answers. melba casada's aunt and uncle live in the building and have not been located.
