this morning and brighton fire crews arrived to find the barn fully engulfed an investigator say it was an accident sparked by an overloaded extension cord. a man from new york survived a bad fall during a hike in southern colorado, search and rescue crews are crediting the man's helmet for saving his life, the 57-year- old and his son were climbing the crestone needle when he slipped and fell about 30 feet last night and the sun went for help and the crews pull the injured man to safety. no word on his condition but rescuers say he has several fractures. right now i wildfire has destroyed one structure in western colorado and has burned more than 500 acres so far near the garfield and mesa county line mostly on private land. for oil pads have been shut down and people living there wallace creek are being told to evacuate. fire crews have called in air support. meteorologist chris spears is in colorado's weather

and toasty today, we flirted with a 90 mark and we're still there right now most of the metropolitan area between 85 and 90 and 70s in the higher elevations and foothills west of town. we have a weather watcher in yuma county that a thunderstorm a while ago with almost 3/4 of an inch of rain so let's take on a radar tour around the state. the rfq struggles over the higher elevations and a clouds, the big action has been near the kansas state line with a couple of rounds of thunderstorms, strongest right now in extreme northeastern colorado on interstate 76 in the vicinity of sedgwick. this is a one hour loop, look at sedgwick in the center of your screen, that storm really isn't moving and there is a flash flood advisory now and because of that one and a half inches of rain has fallen in some areas along interstate 76. earlier there was a heavy rainstorm around the body reservoir and have a flash

a man is in custody after setting a fire and stabbing people on a train in switzerland. authorities say the 27-year-old ford flammable liquid and flashed a knife wounding six people including a six-year-old in the attacker also no word yet on a motive for the violence. fans of the star wars these are mourning the death of kenny baker, the 3'8" actor brought the iconic r2-d2 to life, he died today at 81 after a long illness. as r2-d2 he operated a small droid both from inside and by remote control and baker got the job partly because he could fit inside the costume. his work can be seen in the first six star wars movies,

and into the next few days as a matter of fact. we will be the most part dry but we do occasionally get a few storms that will pop up with daytime heating and moisture at the surface. storms tonight should start to die off after sunset but this is interesting, the future cast model shows one more batch of storms in northeastern colorado about 9 pm and this may or may not happen although we will watch sometimes they leave boundaries around which will re-firestorms later so it is worth watching but everything clears out overnight and you wake up with plenty of sunshine in a few clouds in the far eastern plains. we do it all over again although drive for the most part and we do really need moisture to come into our state, a good soaker but unfortunately it is not in the cards. 50s, lyman you could briefly popped down to 49 and 40 for the most part in the high country, 61 for grand junction tonight and then tomorrow the heat is back with 80s and 90s

>> meteorologist chris spears has been tracking the storm louisiana on radar and what is the latest?>> the latest is not really good news, there's a big area of low pressure sitting right on top of louisiana to have almost a traffic jam in the upper atmospheric flow in there is high pressure behind and ahead of it until the high- pressure ahead of it will move out of the way it wi take a look, i want to show you rainfall totals, these are 48 hour totals as of 7 am this morning and so it is been raining all day, watson louisiana almost 27 inches of rain. you can see the list of these towns, many places in the 15 to 20 inch rain if not better. this is the radar loop and that low as it sits and spends the rain keeps falling and the one piece of good news, let me stop

message and my thoughts are with the victim. a jury found 22-year-old austin wilkerson guilty in the 2014 rape of a female student. cbs4 legal analyst karen steinhauser says if the judge had sentenced him to prison he would not have been able to decide when, if ever, wilkerson would get out. >> under colorado law if someone is convicted of a class iii felony sex events like this and the judge were to sentence him to prison, the judge long that sentence could be. >> in determining sentencing adopted in 1998, and leaves that decision up to a parole board essentially making judges reluctant to send sex offenders to prison. >> it really does create issues. >> on probation wilkerson will spend at least 20 years registered as a sex offender and limited in where he can live, work and who he can be around.>> i can tell you i have
