outside the 7-eleven in lakewood and a swat team was called in when police say the man appeared to have a weapon. police also say the suspect had seven warrants for his arrest, it evening i'm kathy walsh thank you for joining us, cbs4's melissa garcia has the latest.>>reporter: the suspect was rushed to the hospital by ambulance but it is unknown how serious his injuries are or what conditions he is in and is convenience store is back open for business after it was shut down for hours during the day. the speed i heard the cop's sake put your gun down, put your gun down bang. >> a bang made her worried for her former coworkers at the 7- eleven across the street. i was praying they were okay because we were really close. >> a man sitting in the old red pickup parked outside was shot after a three-hour confrontation with police. officers had approached him on seven outstanding warrants. >> he did not seem like that kind of person could >> neighbor conrad gonzales said he had seen the man working outside the late would

accident sparked by an overloaded extension cord. a man from new york survived a bad fall during a hike in southern colorado, search and rescue crews are crediting the man's helmet with saving his life. the 57-year-old and his son were climbing the crest stone needle we've clipped and fell about 30 feet and the sun went for help in the crews were able to pull the injured man to safety, no word on his condition but rescuers say he has several fractures. of wildfires destroyed one structure in western colorado and has acres, that is near the garfield and mesa county line which is mostly private land. there have been for oil pads shut down and people living there wallace creek have been told to evacuate, no word yet on containment. meteorologist chris spears is an colorado's weather center, you can understand why fires are going.>> oh yeah, hot and dry are the two main headlines across colorado, we've had a few isolated storms but let's

winds did this is not too far from the big wildfire down that way that we have been tracking the last several weeks. kathy coming up in just a little bit i am afraid i have more of the same in terms of the long forecast for the next five days, hot and dry weather and a few scatters of storms but there may be some details you will find interesting coming up. severe weather has killed at least two people in louisiana as heavy rain started falling friday is causing some of the worst flooding rescuers have saved more than 1000 people from their homes and cars, louisiana's governor has declared a state of emergency. >> our house has gone under, our pets and are horses have gone under.>> another 4 to 6 inches of rain is expected in the area tonight and a national guard is on scene to help with rescues. denver police are asking

at the dia for the fourth annual plane pull fundraiser. this benefited special olympics colorado and competitors raced to be the fastest to pull that plane 12 feet and that is no small feat as it weighs 164,000 pounds and the money raised and entry fees will help special olympians train your round here in colorado right now a giant mural is breeding light rail riders along the g1 is rtd's largest public art installation and artist carl addison used 22 people from the community as inspiration and it stretches more than 370 feet wide and 22 feet high. addison used more than 1000 cans of spray paint over the course of about a month and there is more art to come, rtd has commissioned public artwork and every new station. a family-friendly event featuring thousands of rubber ducks is coming up next weekend in denver, the fourth annual

tonight a man is in custody after setting a fire and stabbing people on a train in switzerland. the 27-year-old poured flammable liquid and pulled a knife wounding six people including a six-year-old. the attacker stabbed himself police say and no word yet on a motive for the violence. fans of the star wars movies are mourning the death of kenny baker, 33'8" after

come, cbs news rio de janeiro. chris spears joins us now we know about the power of lightning here. >> we do, we get 500,000 cloud to ground strikes each year in our state and that can be really dangerous 89 the highest airport and downtown, we started in the 50s and the dia low was 50 from a record high of 48 second 2004, 99 the record high back mostly in the 70s and 80s across the state and cooling down nicely, a perfect evening to set out on the deck or patio, 85 in denver, 71 for burlington and 80s and arkansas river valley, 70s of high, 62 for leadville and 69 for telluride. weather watcher jim orndorff and severance is watching rain showers in the area and he has 77, this is doppler 4000 tracking a line of storms in east central colorado back to just west of pueblo with a scattering of very light

elevations. down south 11 thunderstorm in and around the canyon city area although not severe. also just to the northwest of lamarr and stretching into kansas. and denver has ominous clouds from time to time but up north we've had rain, the weather watcher in fort collins, debbie bidwell, got one third of an inch of rain. there is a little line of showers from southeast of collins. i want to back out the radar view, the last couple weather segments we talk about future cast in a second but there is an area of disturbed air, you see the concentration of activity, the future cast model wants to take that area and develop thunderstorms in the northeastern part of the state between now and 10 pm tonight and those could rumble into the evening. we saw the batch of storms that went by and i will not say that is going to happen but i will watch that between now and 10

skies, morrow mostly sunny and hot day. we are abnormally dry and that is in a large part of the front range including metro denver and southeastern colorado, it is not in the current forecast to have rain, 50s and 60s east, 40s up high and 50s and 60s on the western slope so pretty seasonal. tomorrow back into the 80s and 90s across all lower elevations with mid to upper 70s for the higherev we have four air-quality today and that goes into tomorrow, and ozone alert until 4 pm sunday for the front range. kathy the extended forecast is hot and dry and just the hope for this scattered pop-up storms, nothing widespread coming our way in this five day forecast. the rent in the denver metro area is averaging for more than $1000 in the smallest of places and the market has low to moderate
