chris spears is in colorado's weather center with today's forecast. what's in store? >> what's in store? a hot and mostly dry day. those thunderstorms were two straight hours last night. beautiful sunrise in progress about to come above the or horizon. those clouds are out there from the storms on the video from doppler camera. be these sprinkles in the south eastern part of the state. these are left over from the storms we had yesterday. maybe a sprinkle or two out there in lineman and trinidad. for the most part, precipitation is done. breckenridge may need a jacket this morning. north breckenridge area nothing like thatter nothing -- like that.

little chill in foothills front range. a lot of sunshine around the state. temperatures quickly going to 80s. kelly, by mid afternoon, low to mid-90s on the eastern plains we'll talk about how long the heat will last and if we have relief in sight. >> thank you. a police officer in georgia is shot and killed. the shooter is on the run. investigators say patrol officer tim smith was investigating a suspicious person in a neighborhood in the city of mc suspect, he got out of his -- encountered the suspect, he got out of his patrol car and was shot. no information at this time. an officer in milwaukee shot and killed a man police say was armed with a gun. after wards, protestors burned down four buildings including a gas station. hundreds took to the streets

one officer was hurt by a brick thrown into a squad car. another police car was heavily damaged. it started after a man ran from police following a traffic stop yesterday afternoon. police say the man had a gun. it's not clear whether he was pointing or aiming at officers. the officer fatally shot the suspect twice, a move the milwaukee mayor says was necessary. >> the gunas gun. 23 rounds in the gun that that officer was staring at. i want to make sure we don't lose police officers in this community either. >> several hours after the shooting, hinge things have calmed down. the officer was wearing a goad camera at the time of the shoot -- a body camera at the

the investigation is ongoing a woman was hit by a train. the train sounded the horn, but it was unable to stop. the woman was dead at the scene. reports say she may have been wearing headphones at the time. her identity is not released. developments on a story we brought you yesterday. a swatted standoff in lakewood ended in gunfire. the man shot by police later led to injuries. hord to the standoff shooting. >> reporter: neighbors were jolted by the gunfire hitting this old red pickup truck. >> i woke up to three gunshots and jumped out of bed. >> police had been looking for the man in the pick up telling us he had seven warrants against him. they found him at 4:20 this morning. >> agents backed off to contain the area. >> three hours later, police say

town area when the hispanic man started walking with her. the man chased her and tried to sexual assault her. she was able to fight him off. the man is described as hispanic in his 20s with dark, wavy hair. a fire is burning on private lane. the flames have burned one structure and at least 0 down. people living near wallace creek are told to evacuate. no word yet on containment. new information on a risky rescue in southern colorado. a man from new york fell 30 feet while walking in crest needle with his son friday. the son called for help and crews were able to pull the injured man to safety. the hiker has several fractures.

. welcome back to cbs 4 morning news. 61 degrees out there. beautiful sunrise. little clouds in the sky. sounds like we're shaping up for a beautiful day. florida health officials say aggressive efforts to clamp down on zika infected mosquitoes is working. this is the healthat south florida is about 25. in texas, officials confirm the first zika related death and infant that died had microcephaly. there are no reports of mosquitoes transmitting that virus in texas. a study finds people that volunteer in their older years have better mental health and emotional well being.

august 14th. a gorgeous sunrise looking east this morning. chris spears says we have a hot day on tap. let's get to him right away in colorado's weather center. chris? >> good morning kelly. nice day to get outside and enjoy yourself. we're wrapping up summer. it's hard to believe that. school is back in session. take advantage of these days. there's not many ahead before things start changing. longs peak, rocky mountain national park, just beaut here's a view from pike's peak, top looking east back to the sunrise. there were thunderstorms that developed last night on the far eastern plain gave denver a light show to the east and southeast. they're pretty much gone. just a few sprinkles way down here in the south central part of the state. weather watchers this morning, dozens of our weather watchers up. david berry, 52 degrees. if you like to geek out and have thermometer and rain gauge,

deputies have been fired for using excessive force against inmates. the notice of all three terminations came within a two week period this summer. deputy jackson was fired for an incident in 2014 when he threw a mentally ill patient back in his cell after seizing his bible the department says deputy arebball used excessive force in 2016 when he smashed i inmate's if anythinger eight horses died in adams county in a barn fire yesterday morning. brighton fire crews arrived to find the barn engulfed in flames. it was an accident sparked by overloaded extension cord. police are asking for help finding this man. he was last seen friday. he was wearing a gray t-shirt, gray pants, black tennis shoes. if you've seen him, give police
