good speeds into the 60s and 50s, 67 the average speed. right now four robbers on the run after targeting a marijuana dispensary. investigators say the thieves were armed when they held up tp pot shop on yale near monaco. howard nathan tells us there's pictures from a security camera that may them. >> reporter: the arapahoe county sheriff's office says three black men wearing masks were joined by a female who didn't have a mask. details of exactly what was stolen was not released by the sheriff's office. one gun was used in the robbery sunday afternoon. a white sedan fled the scene heading west. a neighbor in the community next to denver was not surprised to learn about the robbery. >> mostly have to deal in cash

that exist. the perpetrators or whatever you want to call them know that. so it's basically easy pickings for them. >> no one was hurt in the robbery. in denver, howard nathan, cbs4 news. an update on the fire burning along the western slope. crews are using airplanes to keep the spring creek two fire from growing. it ignited on friday and the flames spread 600 acres into mesa far only voluntary evacuations have been issued for people living there. the beaver creek fire in walden colorado remains active and it's burned for 57 days scorching more than 50,000 acres. the fire is 41% contained. there are no concerns about drier and warmer conditions over the next few days. a roof collapse in elizabeth

off of highway 86. a man and woman were working on tearing down the outbuilding when the roof came crashing down. it was heavy. the man air lifted to the hospital and in critical condition last night. the woman also taken to the hospital and no word yet on her condition. we have new information in a fire that destroyed a home in steamboat springs early yesterday. this fire also spread to nearby pine trees. nobody hurt but lost. no word yet on what started the fire. new laebs will open to bikers on one of denver's busiest streets. one lane of a half mile stretch of broadway will be dedicated to bike riders. shawn chitnis is live on south broadway and this provides people another option to get around. >> reporter: more options and safer options -- that's the goal here. so let's take a look at this set up. i'm standing in the bike lane

distance, these are the new parking spots that take up a lane of traffic creating the buffer to protect anyone who is riding their bike on this lane. of course this is a major change to the way folks are travelling along south broadway so the department of public works wants to closely watch how this all plays out and make this corridor a safer police. the new plan will run out to virginia here along south broadway. to go north and south for those on bikes and takes away one lane of traffic from cars to create parking spots. today's opening of this lane is a start of a 15-month study period to see how the change goes and the department of public works wants your feedback on that. we will put it on cbsdenver.com and you can also go to denver

yesterday. the port authority says there were no shots fired in the airport sunday night. hundreds of passengers evacuated the terminal and people were looking for cover when this was going on. the evacuation happened out of an abundance of caution. hours later police said no one was shot and the reports of a shooter turned out be false. everything is fine. one person shot during another night of unrest in milwaukee but so far no maj weekend. the violence is in response to the shooting death of a man on saturday afternoon. cars were burns and businesses ruined. the suspect had a gun in his hand and wouldn't drop it and turned towards officers. that's why they had to shoot him. the crowd was throwing objects at police. the person who was hurt was taken to a local hospital.

wildfires. the clayton fire north of san francisco exploded on sunday and the blaze is burning and the very same area where a wildfire killed four poem and burned 1300 homes not too long ago. hena daniels has the latest. >> reporter: a fast moving wildfire has destroyed several homes and businesses in lower lake california and forced thousands of residents to flee. some people are see the devastation around them. >> this is where we all grew up. our whole life and all our neighbors, look at what they have to come home to. it's horrible. >> emergency crews are trying to contain the blaze that has destroyed 3,000 acres from the ground and air. >> we are seeing everything burn -- grass, vegetation,

propane tank explosions. >> reporter: on sunday fire the clayton fire spread in several directions at once. the four block strip of main street became ground 0 after dozens of cars, the post office, wine rio and habitat for humanity went up in flames these fires are just erupting so fast that people can't even think. >> reporter: a second wildfire near the lake in central california has destroyed 20 homes and threatens 150 more. triple digit temperatures shifting winds, and dry brush are making it hard for firefighters to battle the flames. a fire weather watch is in effect for parts of california through wednesday. hena daniels, cbs news. the fire in lower lake is only 5% contained. more than 7500 firefighter ts are battling 11 large wildfires

doctors overseas showing cancer outran ks heart disease as the major cause for death. new concerns over the west nile virus in colorado. a record number of mosquitos are testing positive for the virus in boulder, weld, and larimer counties. colorado has seen 13 human so far this year. melissa garcia explains the greater risk for west nile this summer. fort collins residents took cover inside their homes as trucks sprayed pesticides to kill mosquitos on contact. >> the sooner the better. we need to have the neighborhood sprayed if we have west nile. >> reporter: mary's neighborhood was one of three high risk zones sprayed in larimer county. researchers here at the colorado mosquito control are seeing a surge in the number of mosquitos

and property from mosquitos carrying west nile, head to cbsdenver.com. take a look at this beautiful shot from our library cam. mostly clear this morning. once the sun pops up we're in great shape. temperature wise, let's start on the western slope. grand junction at 64. 66 in boulder and greeley is cooler than that in alamo sa. 52 degrees and mostly clear skies across the state. there's moisture coming into utah. what we have on the map is a big area of high pressure from southern california into arizona. on top of that a sliver of moisture coming across salt lake into northern colorado and parts of wyoming here. that's moisture available for thunderstorms this afternoon.

this is the moisture that blew through louisiana causing huge flooding problems. this is mixing in with monsoonal flow and causing problems. st. louis has had flooding issues already this morning. isolated storms in the mountains and moving out over the eastern plains should be typical late summertime day. right along the palmer dwoid it could get strong this afternoon and that's it. temperature wise, 70s and 80s in the mountains and 90s and 80s today. isolated afternoon storms in the upper 80s and same deal a slight chance of a late day storm and a weather changer coming in on friday. 76 degrees possibly on friday with scattered thunderstorms. joel, i would call that 76 degrees day luscious. looks very nice on the map there. and maybe turn things green. i-70 in pecos this morning, you can see we have the building

into town. southbound coming into town, speeds still looking good and dipping down into the 50s and 60s. the mousetrap cam pointed to the west so the headlights you see heading in the eastbound direction on the approach to i-225 around pecos it starts to slow down. lights malfunctioning near 23rd there. make sure you treat that as a four way stop. northville aten have a lane restriction due to a stalled vehicle. otherwise, look at the green we see. that means we're at or near posted speed limits. the comedy that tackles why men and women don't understand each other is back in town. so many times i come home and mariah swears i'm in a bad mood. i'm just out of words.
