hi, everybody. i'm alan gionet. good to have you with us in the cbs4 morning news. >> i'm britt moreno. thanks for joining us on this wednesday morning. this is the news breaking out of denver. a car smashes through a property and then takes off. imagine the people i unsuspecting about this. there's plenty of damage left behind in this area. >> just a pile of damage here. this happened in a backyard in the 3400-block of west evans west of evans and federal. that's where shawn chitnis is right now to bring the news right now. shawn, what's up. >>reporter: alan as you two were describing, that's almost how it happened. we know the homeowner was inside in bed and woke up suddenly to see what was happening.

heard anything. he came out to take a look to see what happened if the behind me there's a mess he's having to clean up this morning. let's look closer at the scene here with video that was shot earlier this morning that gives you a sense of the damage. it looks like some sort of storm came through. a car driving on evans. it hit a pole. then it hit the fence, went into the backyard, hit a trailer and then hit this detached shed police tells us the driver left the scene and they were able to catch up with the driver and take that driver to the hospital to get treated for injuries. we don't know anything else about the driver or their condition. back here at this location, we know there's going to be quite a lot to cleanup here. a lot of damage as we can see from that fence as well as the shed there. we're told that city officials will have to come in later this morning to take a look at that

seems to be the morning where we have the most volume. you saw where shawn was near knox and evans there, watch out for police activity. slowing northbound along i-225 passed i-70 along c-470, you can expect slowing due to ongoing roadway. >> thank you so much. right now, there's some 82,000 people in san bernardino, california forcedut homes by a massive fire. the fire has zero containment right now and has burned roughly 2300 square miles and destroyed a dozen buildings. erica nockland have the latest. >>reporter: flames tore through san bernardino, california reducing structures to rubble. fire crews worked into the night to keep the blaze from reaching more homes ordering residents in

we have seen erratic fire be behavior. >> the bluecut fire ignited in the cajon pass. despite trying to contain the fire, the fire expanded in size and intensity in hours. in the high desert along highway 138, you can see home after home charred to their foundation. officials are hoping lighter win temperatures will help them get the bluecut fire under control. >> in northern california, fire crews have gained some ground against the clayton fire saying it has burned 4,000 acres and is now 35% contained. that fire started over the weekend and lr destroyed 175 homes and businesses. a warning to families in englewood. he's trying to get

was recently back at a park. >>reporter: this is the face of a man police believe is trying to lure kids into his van. it happened after school monday as elementary students were dropped off by their school bus near baker park in englewood. the man with brown hair and glasses approached them making disturbing and inappropriate comments according to police. person. he's described white, 20 to 30-year old with brown hair driving a black and gray astro van. 1 man who lives next to the park decided not to talk to cbs4 on camera. he said you saw the man in a gray-colored man writing something in a notebook and as he was approached, sped away from the year. >> kelly werthmann reporting.

might be or if you see him. 1 person dead in a crash at 53rd and quebec around midnight last night. it involved a motorcycle and a car. doctors are treating 1 person with serious injuries. let's turn to business news. markets hit a bump and investors want to get back on the positive track. >> a lot of good stuff going on in the markets. jill wagner joining us on the floor of the morning. >> good morning. stocks have been pulling back after record highs. the d oshgs w fell 81 points and the nasdaq fell 54. today, investors are waiting for the feds to release minutes from its last meeting. they were looking for clues -- increase in september is the able. ford has self-driving cars on the road in the next 5 years. they won't have steering wheels or gas or

accident according to a new study in academic pediatrics. it happens when the child falls or it tips over. a growing number of babies are being treated for concussions. a study suggests the longer that a woman is overweight or obese, the likely she is to get cancer. the world organization looked at 74,000 women and found for every decade, a woman is overweight or obese, her risk of obesity related cancer goes up by 7%. researcher in scotland say both genetic factors increase that risk. runners are going to notice changes this year. here's mark haas. >> should i be the guy who takes a run seriously. >> you should have fun. >>reporter: we're a strange group that puts fun and run in

cbsdenver.com. new video of an east texas man hit by lightning. you can see the flash and then tim pow goes down while he and his wife were unloading groceries. it happened during a storm in bronson 160 miles northeast of houston. tim and his wife were hit by the lightning strike and much when -- they were the porch when they were hit. >> my children are my main concern and seeing the video of how close and how much worse it could have been, just a few seconds, the lightning would have hit a few second later, it would have gotten my youngest son. >> pow says he did not feel his legs an hour after the strike.

us. a ridge of high pressure building up the western coast. it's going to drag cooler air into the northern and central rockies expecting a cool front probably this time friday morning. it could shift a couple of showers. we'll watch that. boy, is it going to bring changes. on the future cast, a handful of clouds and a few sprinkles here and there. they'll go away. as we go into the afternoon hours, wide spread showers and storms pop up over the higher most stay in the higher elevations, but later in the afternoon and evening, a few could rollout here in the front range. we have a very small chance of seeing a storm. maybe a 10% chance. the chances do go up as we go into the future here. so today the last of a very warm stretch of days, we've been seeing here on the front range, we'll be around the 90 degrees mark. upper 80s to lower 90s. 70s in the higher
