for teacher and staff. their school opens next week. but they have police training going on. for them, they don't have to show up this morning. and first day of school is coming up on the 22nd. let's get to joel. we have another issue for the a-line going on. >> we've had some crossing gate malfunctions on several of those crossing gates as you're making your way out to dia. rtd saying expect severe delays. they'll say 30 delays. this time they've said severe delays. there's no talk of bus bridges. we're working to get information on that to see if anybody is stranded out here. it's a story we're going to follow. you may have to call up that friend, that really good friend, hopefully you have it to take you to the airport. >> hopefully you have a favor to call on. i'm tracking clouds from the south and showers on the western slope. how busy would this

day. britt and alan, we'll have that answer in a minute and we'll look at a cool down. >> that's a huge change. chris, thanks for that. take a look at these pictures. so much cleanup for one homeowner after a car smashes through that man's property and takes off. it happened in the 3400-block of west evans avenue which is west of evans and federal. cbs4 shawn chitnis is tracking this story. shawn, go ahead and tell us what happened out there. >>reporter: britt, as homeowner has spent the last few hours trying to deal with that and clean it up and as we watch, they've made progress in getting that debris off to one side of the backyard. let's give you a closer look at the damage as we talk about what happened overnight here. we understand a driver first hit a small pole, split it in half, then hit the fence of the backyard. damaging

finally hitting a detached garage and storage shed that was also in the backyard. a lot of damage created. looking like a storm came through the backyard. all done by one that was able to drove off after -- creating by 1 car that was able to drove off. the owner was inside at the time. he woke up suddenly and went to find out what happened and found this damage and has been working through the mess to try and clean it up. we know through later this morning to take a look at the damage and see if that shed can still stand in its current condition. probably not. and then as for that driver, we know the driver was able to drive off. police caught up with the driver just a few blocks from where we are, and then that driver was taken to the hospital. we don't have an update on their condition. live in denver, shawn chitnis, cbs4 morning news. >> shawn, thank you very much. new 1 person dead in a crash

it involved a motorcycle right here and a car. doctors are treating 1 person with serious injuries. tonight, larimer county crews are going to spray for moss keys to steam the spread of the west nile virus. that's in eastern fort collins and run from timberline road to i-225 and prospect south to harmony. the health department is seeing a high number mosquitos. >> we're lucky that the -- usually that covers our season. some years are worse than others. >> the spray starts today. you can track the trucks as they go to your neighborhood. you can do that by going to krns and

cbsdenver.com and -- kelly werthmann found out the man was recently back at a park where he has frightened people. >>reporter: this is the face of a man indianapolis is trying to lure kids into his van. it happened after school monday as elementary students were dropped off by their school bus near baker park in englewood. as kids began walking home, the man with brown hair and glasses approached them making disturbing and inappropriate comments according to police. students avoided the strange pe t about what happened who later reported it to police. the man is described as white, about 20 to 30-year old with brown hair, driving a black and gray astro mini van. 1 man who lives next to the park chose not to talk to cbs4 on camera. but says he saw the suspect outside his home tuesday afternoon. that neighbor says he saw the man in a gray-colored van writing something in a notebook, then as he was approached, sped away

i have a cool down in a bit. >> it's a taste of the season to come. chris, thank you so much. there's 82,000 people in san bernardino, california forced out of their homes by a massive wild fire and that fire has zero containment so far. it has burned rough leaf 23 square miles and it has destroyed a dozen buildings. erica knockland have the details. >>reporter: fla fire crews worked into the night to keep the blaze from reaching more homes ordering residents in the area to evacuate immediately. >> this fire is aggressive. we've seen some very erratic fire behavior. get out so we can focus on working on this fire verses rescuing citizens. >> the so-called bluecut fire ignited yesterday. despite containing the fire from the air and ground, the fire expanded in

highway 138, you can see home after home charred to their foundations. fire officials are hoping lighter winds and cooler temperatures will help get the bluecut fire under control. erica knockland from southern california. california -- the clayton fire burned 4,000 acres and 35% contained. the fire started over the weekend and destroyed 175 homes and her role in the death of her young son. candace pled guilty to child abuse resulting in death. her 2-year old son died last summer. he was brought to the emergency room with injuries consistent with being beaten and burned. the mother's boyfriend crank is also face being charge in the boy's death. he has pleaded not guilty. new developments this morning in a search for a back country scare missing for months

bottom of an avalanche slide near bertha fall in clear creek county. here's what we know. they had been looking for 42-year old jeremy rich who never returned home from a skiing trip back in january. the coroner working to identify the remains found over the weekend. we'll followup. denver police want to find this man. they say he broke into the garage of a home and stole a couple of bikes. that crime last week right near 6th and galpego and a security camera caught they say he has pretty distinct tattoos. get ready for security changes at college football games this year. colorado state university and cu boulder will both only allow certain clear bags into their stadiums. our suzanne mccarroll talked to fans about the changes. >>reporter: how are students reacting to the clear bag policy. >> plastic bag, it's okay if it's pretty

welcome back, everyone. new video this morning, if you can, take a look at your screen because it's truly unbelievable. you have to see it for yourself. an east texas man hit by lightning. he goes down. you see the flash and tim pow goes down. his wife was unloading groceries and their children were nearby. this happened in bronson. tim and his wife were hit by the lightning strikes and injured. >> my children and my family are the main concern, and seeing the video on how close and how much worse it could have been, just a few seconds, if the lightning would have hit a few second later, it would have got my youngest son. >> pow says he did not feel his legs for an hour after the strike. doctors checked out the family and say it's rare they

we'll check with chris spear in a moment and see if more storms are on the way, but first joel, you're watching something on the roads. >> there's a mess on the roadways. i want to start at i-25 and santa fe. flashing lights. i-270 and york, there's an accident blocked off both directions of traffic. this is just to the south of york. you can see the mess you have of taillights. that's a similar situation you would see on the other side of this accident. lo through commerce city this morning. a long line extend nothing the eastbound direction from i-225 and in the westbound direction, you're going to see that load up back to i-70. that is not our only trouble spot. we've had operational difficulties is what they're calling it that's causing severe delays along the a-line for the next several hours so you can expect delays on the ride on the train to the plane out to the airport this morning.

mix on the high peaks outside of telluride. future cast, more of the same as we go through the day. showers and storms will pop as we get into the afternoon. mostly over the higher elevations. late afternoon, early evening, many come into the i-25 corridor like we saw yesterday. your chance is low. only 10 to 20% chance you'll get anything at your house today. high pressure breaking down and moving to the west and a ridge building up the west coast. that big ridge is going to create a trough of l bring down a batch of cool air for this time of year. highs today, 80s and 90s east of i-25. 7 -- 70s in the mountains. changes -- saturday we may struggle to hit 70 if you can believe that. >> wow. it's a scientist of the next season. fall is on the way.

big shake up hits trump's political team. just 82 days before the election. the republican presidential nominee is bringing in conservative stephen banning as ceo and he's promoting well-known kelly ann conway to campaign manager. hanna daniels has the latest on the campaign. >>reporter: trump will receive his first classified intelligence briefing in new york later today. last night in wisconsin, the gop focused on law enforcement and race relations accusing clinton of bigotry and pandering to communicates of color. >> those [indiscernible] of the native of cops is -- it's a narrative supported with a nod by my opponent. shared directly in the responsibility for the unrest in milwaukee and many other places within our country.
