thanks for joining us on this wednesday. we got to say good luck to park county school because summer is over and they're going to class. we want to go to joel because there's a-line problems. this area has been plagued with problems. >>reporter: rtd saying severe delays. they say expect delays. if you're heading out to the airport, you're going to any backups they have, they've got to get those out there at these various stops to the airport. no word if they're using bus bridges this morning or if they need to or how big those delays are. they're calling them severe delays. there's a huge accident at i-270 to -- copter 4 just arriving. your plate is full this morning, joel. we have a beautiful sunrise for you happening at 6:13 this morning. a little cloud cover out there.

your screen over the colorado state line. showers in the southwest. coming up, we'll look at what to expect. a big change in the works. >> chris, thanks very much. a crash. it looks like a tornado rolled through this denver property. a driver smashed into this backyard early this morning. this is near evans and federal. we know the driver hit a small steel pole and split that in two. the driver took out a fence can see. it hit a trailer and that was parked in the backyard. likely destroyed a garage there or shed. we can't tell what it was at the end of the property. the owner tells us this happens too often in the area. he's dealing with a court case from the last time someone hit his property. the driver took off, but police caught up to the driver a few blocks away and took the person to the hospital

international airport will look like a medical disaster zone. it's apart of a drill. jaime leary is live this morning with the story. hi, jaime. >>reporter: good morning, britt. more than 300 people from local and state federal agencies, the ones that would contribute in a disaster for real will be put to the test in a huge simulated one. it's a chance for everyone to see how well the national disaster medical system works together. this is what previous years have looked like and we're told that the drill is going to simulate the evacuation of victims from a large earthquake in the salt lake city area. emergency crews are going to set up a triage senter and transport 150 volunteer patients to nine metro area hospitals via ambulance and military helicopters. the whole operation is going to take place over a period of 6 hours. and we'll get into motion this morning right here around 7:00

i-270. people got a half inch of rain. berry got six hundreds of an inch of rain. high clouds and showers in the south western san juans mountains. and air quality continues to be poor along the front range. we're expecting a fast rise through the 80s topping off in the upper 80s. they'll be afternoon clouds that build up and we could squeeze out a couple of more storms today. we follow the travel alert -- this is i-270 both directions. it's blocked off in the left lane as you travel either side or both sides thereof i-270 of commerce city. you have a van and they have the junk out there along the roadway and heavy police presence. this is causing delays. look at the long line of red. this is in the westbound direction from i-70 and backing up onto i-70 itself. it's a mess trying to get into town. southbound along i-225 effected as apart of this as well. let me show you the

camera. i-270 and york crawling along and you have a zipper and you have to merge that traffic. hopefully they can get that cleared out shortly. if you're getting in your your car, you can turn on our partners 850. a person is dead involvi motorcycle. doctors are treating 1 person with serious injuries. the department of justice is expected to announce a comprehensive review of the commerce city police department. commerce city's mayor and city manager and interim police chief sent a letter asking for one. they talked about serious internal investigations -- we've reported troubles in that department. kevin ward pleaded guilty in the staging of his own shooting which he initially

tense moments for those in parker as a brush fire burned near an apartment building. >> [fire alarm] >> smoke from the fire near east main street caused the smoke alarms to go off as you heard. it happened near the trail side apartments. the names burned two aches in a nearby field, but crews had the fire out before midnight. no word on how it started. video shows wild fire is in san bernardino county, california. it's at 18,000 acres and reduced homes to rubble. 82,000 people had to get out of their homes. >> there's a neighbor getting his live stock and he's going to try and get our dogs. we're hoping the best and hopes the wind blows north. >> the fire started yesterday

there's reports of a man trying to lure elementary students. police put out a photo of a man who tried to get children into a van and made disturbing and inappropriate comments to children. this reportedly happened near baker park and englewood, excuse me. police say childrens avoided the man and told their parents. he was driving a black and gray astro mini van. a wet and electrifying night at coors field. check out the photos of the lightning there. because of the weather, but if they waited after a 2-hour rain delay on bark at the park day, the rockies were growling. they closed out a late one in the 7th. bases loaded for rookie david who lines one out to left. a play at the plate coming up here. cargo, can he beat the throw? no. didn't do it. but rockies win this 6-2. rubber match is this afternoon at 1:10.

over a million ears of corn are picked a day here in olathe, colorado. and i'm glad we have a senator who uses his ears to listen to what's most important to colorado farmers. michael bennet asked what he could do to help, and then worked with republicans to make a farm bill that's making a difference to all farmers in colorado. the thing that impresses me most about michael bennet: we don't always agree, but he values our input. and i do trust michael bennet to look out for us.

we're hearing these problems have to do with crossings. explain that. >>reporter: yeah, alan. we're getting a few details from rtd about what may have caused all this. the good news you want to point out, behind me, one a-line train arriving right now likely from the airport and i just saw one leaving here at union station a couple of minutes ago. so at least we're seeing those trains start to move. stop at union station telling us they've been able to get a likely a 15 to 30-minute delay. that's the latest information that rtd is tweeting out. on the boards, they're explaining there's operational issues. we've seen details about aspects of the crossings involved. we're not able to get more information on a clarification on what that means. clearly some technical issues causing its trains to have significant delays earlier in the morning.

we're getting word of an accident along u.s. 36 between pecos and broadway. copter 4 heading over to that area >> joel, thanks very much. a man was shot by denver police. it happened yesterday near 12th and federal. police tell us they approached two men and a woman apart of a car jacking in arapahoe county. the group that took off running. they tell us 1 person had a gun and people nearby heard >> all of a -- all of a sudden we heard pow, pow. >> they're not saying if the suspects fired. they took the two others into custody. the coroner is working to identify human remains found in clear creek county. a search team discovered them at the bottom of an avalanche slide area in the bertha falls area. crews had been looking for 42-year old

thursday, friday. here's a live view outside looking at the sunrise that came up at 6:13 this morning. your wednesday is underway. we have a little subtle feature spin ongoing the new mexico state line. see the spin in the atmosphere. high clouds filtering in with that and there's a few showers in the south western mountains. as we get our daytime heating today, that feature will crop up more showers over the higher elevations. mainly the mountains. but as we get into the mid-to late afternoon andrl yesterday, a few may try and come across the i-25 urban corridor. the big feature we're watching and i'm jump about to friday, the pacific coast will bring cooler air into colorado and rain chances goes up. 53 from our weather watcher. most of the state in the 50s and 60s across lower elevations, lineman one exception. higher elevations. 40s leadville. one exception. 37 degrees.

highs today, 80s on the eastern plains. 90s mixed in there as well. 70s for the higher elevations of our state. on the western slope, we'll be in the mostly 80s to near 90s in the grand valley. here's the 35-day forecast, and boy oh boy is it going to be -- we top out today near 90. joel, we start to slow fall with afternoon storms. cold front blows through here friday morning. we feel it friday into saturday and then we'll warm back up on supposed. and the pumpkin spice lattes. looking at i 26. the word of the morning is delay and we're seeing that along the road in the eastbound direction of i-270. we've got an earlier accident which had one lane blocked off in both directions. now just in the eastbound direction and look at this, a line of cars. they want an opportunity to sit and wait in traffic along i-270 as well. take a look at the map. we've

southbound direction of i-25 and one at 88th to the right shoulder. another one further to the south. an accident reported along u.s. 36 near pecos out to broadway and we're seeing the delays. here's where the accident is. the delays extending to federal along u.s. 36 in the westbound direction. we have delays onto i-270 and slow to i-225 and northbound along i-225 itself. loading up southbound along i-225 as you make your way out to the there's a stall blocking off. no delays near i-225 and santa fe. trouble near wadsworth in the littleton area. in the high country, fine. we talked about the word of the morning being delays. the a-line has delays. they've had false activations along the gates. many are calling it the delay to the plane. >> the latest problem in a

just about 6:45. i want to take you to breaking news. we have severe delays for the a-line this morning. the train to the plane right now is the pain to plane. >> people are feeling that pain. we have team coverage this morning. joel has details on the delays. first we want to start with shawn chitnis who is talking to passengers at union station. shawn, how are they feeling about this? >>reporter: of course, britt ths arrive and you're not sure what's going on. you hear announcements like this one going on right now as well as information on the reader boards. what we know is those delays started to come down. we've been seeing trains moving. in the last 15 minutes we saw a train leave from track 2. passengers arriving for the next train to arrive on track 1. we're seeing some improvements and it's getting back to normal. staff telling us they have

smoke alarms to go off in the trail side apartments and the flames burned 2 acres in a nearby field. the crews out there working. they had the fire out before midnight last night. in california it's worse. about 82,000 people are out of their homes this morning as a wild fire burns through homes in san bernardino county. this is a live look right now. the sun is not quite up yet. this is the flames are aggressive. 18,000 acres are destroyed there as we zoom in on some of this fire. the so-called bluecut fire ignited yesterday morning near interstate 15 in the cajon pass. new video of lightning striking a mother and father in east texas. and i can tell you everyone survived, but this strike is caught on camera. take a look now. video shows tim pow unloading groceries from his truck. his wife was inside
