their best to keep the fire from spreading. >> it's so dry, and the dry conditions up here has been the biggest factor. >> reporter: we know that about 20 firefighters are staying up here overnight. they think it may not be until tomorrow evening that they have this fully contain. no injuries reported, and so far no homes lost to this fire. no word tonight on what may have sparked it. we've been talking about the dry conditions, but there is some rain tonight. >> there is a little rain. a little lingering. we had more across the state earlier. just out on the eastern plains right now. the moisture is off to our west, mesa county, also down

winds were stronger earlier. a lot of these areas had numbers across the state on them earlier. 25, 35 miles an hour in some spots. fairly calm for us now. wins are getting calmer as well. and temperatures are not too bad either. 67 in denver, 72 in boulder. 68 in burlington. and mountains, 59 in aspen, 74 in grand junction. we're starting to mellow out this evening. winds gusting up to 70 miles an hour in canyon lands 60 might recalls east of los angeles are making it impossible to make progress against that blue cut wildfire it. burned some 40 square miles, the size of san francisco. it is being fueled by dry vegetation after five years of exposure.

ordinance to remove single-family homes from the inspection program. a close call for a firefighter in brighton. a crew was doing work on the side of the road. a reckless driver almost hits him. stan bush found out it's alarming how often this happens. >> reporter: it happens way too often for firefighters and police worst nightmare. getting hit along the side of a road is a risk they face every day in. this incident, an entire crew could have been wiped out >> reporter: firefighters were filling their water tanks when out of nowhere, this silver kia darts out from the shoulder and nearly hits a firefighter. when you watch it again, the firefighter is seen staying on the road watching as the car veered off the shoulder. he yells out to three other

hydrant. >> he might have saved his crew men. >> that car kept going on the pass. their backs were to that vehicle and they could have been hit. >> reporter: the car swerved back in between two struck trucks, missing that firefighter and sped up. >> he was convinced that car was going to hit his fellow crew members so he was yelling at them. when he saw it swerve back, he realize today might hit him. >> reporter: a terrifying reality for roads crews. in march a state trooper was almost hit on 6th avenue by another suv. this one almost rolls over when it overcorrects. >> we realize that many times people just are not paying attention and going too fast for conditions. >> reporter: brighton fire says their deputies escaped unscathed because their firefighter was

something many drivers lack. >> reporter: the firefighters say they were able to get the low pressure system number off that kia -- license plate number off that kay and hand it over to police. new information on a truck rollover on a busy denver street. all lanes back open on colorado boulevard at 17th. crews spent hours cleaning up the debris after this semi read no word yet why it tipped. no one was hurt. the u.s. just department is investigating the commerce city police department at their own request. the city wants the justice department to review their police department after several cases of officer misconduct. last year, an officer reported he was shot by a driver. the story turned out to be false. another officer resigned after thousands of sexually explicit text messages and pictures were found on his work phone. now the city is

67, right around where we're at in denver come saturday. 67 in denver right now, really nice outside. 66 in greeley. 68 in burlington. mountains, 64 in aspen -- 59 in aspen. 74 in grand junction. downtown we got to 89. pretty close to our average of 87 degrees. getting quieter for us. a little of radar on the eastern plains. never made it into the denver area this evening. we did think it was an isolated chance we got anything at all. most of the moisture is off to the west, the northwestern corners, scattered showers, and into parts of the san juans. looking at our futurecast, mostly clear overnight with any of the moisture we have left. tomorrow morning, just a few spots on

early hour, mainly off to our west, foothills. some of this could head into the denver area. we may get some activity tomorrow, we may not. it'll be isolated if we do. temperatures for tonight, fairly mild. tomorrow morning should be nice. low 60s for parts of the eastern plains. 47 for steamboat springs, frisco. and 63 junction. tomorrow still fairly warm. in the mountains, calm and cool with a chance of rain. 72 in aspen and eagle and 84 in boulder. 87 in denver. eastern plains still pretty warm with 95 in wright and 91 in burlington. for denver tonight, an isolated storm chance. not really anymore. just clearing skies. upper 50s for us. and for the 5-day forecast tomorrow, looking to hit the low 70s.
