been identified. i'm tom mustin. >> i'm kathy walsh. melissa garcia is in brighton with the very latest. >> reporter: that woman whose body was spotted by a passer by early yesterday morning here along i-76, she was identified as 51-year-old cindy augustine of aurora. we spoke with family members who are devastated over her death. >> shock. disbelief. loss. >> reporter: a family is in mourning after the tragic an aurora woman struck and killed by a hit and run driver in brighton. >> to hear she was hit by a car and the car didn't stop ... it is something i cannot even imagine. >> reporter: her cousin kathy hinkfiss, also a close friend to cindy who grew up with more in wisconsin says she moved to colorado for her love of life

marathon. she was always very health conscious. liked to run. liked to be outside. hiking was one of her favorite things to do. >> reporter: she was shocked to learn of cindy's sudden death that leaves many questions unanswered. police believe she first struck this pole, drove off i-76 into the ditch, and crashed into the bushes. 911 received two calls from early morning drives reporting a woman walking along the interstate. but police could then at 6:20 a.m., another driver called to report a body lying on the side of the road. it was cindy and she was dead. police believe a motorist struck her and didn't stop. >> very, very heartless. and, it is just the opposite of what she was. she would give you the shirt off her back. >> reporter: hinkfiss is outraged that whoever hit cindy didn't have the courage to stop and help. the cause and manner of her

in brighton, melissa garcia, cbs4 news. >> thank you melissa. a man is dead after being struck by lightning. happened friday afternoon west of fort collins. 45-year-old chad trovo was standing outside of his cabin at red feather lakes when he was struck. a gunman is on the loose after a shooting in denver's montbello neighborhood. someone shot a man in the 4800 block of troy street. that victim was taken hospital with nonlife threatening injuries. investigators are sorting out what led to the shooting. so far, no information about a suspect. tonight, the douglas county sheriff's office is looking for the man who robbed a bank in castle pines. happened this morning around 10:30, the key bank. no one was hurt, no weapon was shown. the suspect is described as a white male. 25 years old. no other information being released. we have a traffic alert in

the rapids are all playing at home tonight. you may want to avoid driving downtown. unless, of course, you are going to one of the games and if you go, use public transportation. >> you should already be there. the broncos are looking for their second win in the preseason. >> cbs4's michael spencer is at the stadium with what to extect. >> reporter: the broncos and 49ers here at mile high at 7:00. all eyes entering tonight's game on the quarterback position. as they have been all throughout training camp. we expect to see each guy play a quarter-and-a-half. mark sanchez started the game in chicago. trevor siemian will get the start tonight against the 49ers. but really, don't look too much into who starts the game. gary kubiak saying it is really not about that. he wants each guy to get equal reps. we had a chance to talk to both siemian and sanchez. earlier this week, they said despite the pressure of still being in a quarterback

74 centennial. 64 in genesee. on the satellite, there are a few thunderstorms south of the city along the palmer divide pushing to colorado springs. they will not get to denver tonight. things are looking good. we also have the rockies throwing the first pitch at 6:10 tonight. they are just about 5 minutes away from that. should start close to 70 and then cool down into the mid 60s by the end of the game. and then, for the broncos, we are looking at a kickoff sunset is at 7:48. so as soon as the sun goes down, temperatures will dip pretty good. 59 degrees by the end of the game. if your loved one is already on the way out there, they took a sweater. they will need it at least by the fourth quarter i'm thinking. a good looking sunday is on the way. we will warm it up a little bit. that forecast is right around the corner. >> it is august. thank you dave. new tonight, a hiker is

the victim had a broken leg. they were able to get the hiker down safely. today marks the 29th year of the aids walk here in colorado. and nearly a thousand people took part in the event at cheesman park this morning. but cbs4's kelly werthmann explains this may be the final year for the walk. >> it is a great event . >> reporter: hundreds of people spent their saturday morning walking and running for a cause. >> we do it of hiv in the community. >> reporter: aids walk is the oldest aids fund raising event in the rocky mountain region. hosted by the colorado aids project, money raised helps the nearly 6,000 people in this state living with hiv. >> last year, we provided a little over 100,000 meals to people living with hiv. a prevention department last year provided a little over 3500 free hiv tests. >> reporter: over the years, medicine has advanced and

longer. event manager jeff trujillo says that has created a false impression that aids is a thing of the past ultimately leading to fewer donations. >> in 1996 i believe, we reached our peak. where the event raised $1.7 million. this year, our goal is to raise $250,000. >> reporter: as of saturday morning, about $120,000 had been donated. trujillo says decreased funding could mean the end >> that makes me really sad. it is disappointing me here, actually. and i think it makes you kind of want to get out and do more. >> reporter: event organizers say they are grateful for the hundreds of people who continue to walk to raise awareness. the hope is these community gatherings stay relevant and raise more money to keep helping the many coloradoresidents living with hiv. kelly werthmann, cbs4 news.

driver lost control and crashed. police captured three of them. the chase lasted about a half hour. but it is not clear what the suspects were wanted for. developing tonight, six notre dame football players have been arrested on drugs and weapons charges. the arrests come in two separate incidents. now, first, senior devin butler was arrested in south bend for resisting arrest and battery against a police officer. later, indiana state police say a oo speeding and found five players, marijuana, and a loaded handgun. that weapon was not licensed. the university is aware of the situation and will decide on sanctions. there are certain milestones daughters never want their mothers to miss. for a westminster woman, it was learning the gender of her unborn baby before her mother passed away. andrea flores has the story.

>> reporter: first time mom taylor says learning she was having a baby girl in the same hospital bed as her terminally ill mother is something she will never forget. >> and i just looked at her and everything kind of flashed and it hit me more that she wouldn't be there. >> reporter: battling stage 4 brain and lung cancer, doctors at longmont united hospital knew her mom's time was coming to an end. >> i thought how am i going to do this? i couldn't picture myself going through all her. >> reporter: so the hospital arranged for taylor to have an ultrasound lying next to her mom before it was too late. >> she reached over and she patted my cheek which is something that she has always done. at that moment, i kind of knew she was still fighting but kind of ready to go as well. >> reporter: taylor's mom passed away just three days later. while the moment will always be bittersweet ... >> you have a daughter.

happy knowing her mother met her baby girl before she was even born. >> she will know the love that my mom had for her. even without seeing her ... my mom loved her a lot already. >> and that was andrea flores reporting. taylor says her mother and daughter will share the same middle name. >> absolutely. we are turning now weather. one gorgeous night for a sporting event. >> several sporting events if you are partaking tonight. we have clear skies over denver. and most of northern colorado. then you get down to monument hill. and you get in the clouds and the thunderstorms all the way down to northern new mexico there. and we have a few problems down there with some of those storms getting kind of big out here from salida all the way to just outside of walsonburg. this big thunderstorm near silver cliff has the potential of 60 miles an hour winds and quarter sized hail out of it.

warning until 6:45. silver cliff, west cliff. and then we have a flash flood warning here near coledale. could have some mud slides there. custer, fremont. then we take you further down, there is a flood advisory near the city of weston until 8:15 for the heavy storms that have blown through there. and that's not all. another flood advisory here near ra for some of the burn scarring out there from forest fires in the past. ahead of big storms going through there. it is not raining now, but the storms south of pagosa springs were heavy duty. high temperature today felt like the middle of september. 76 out at dia. same thing downtown. normal high is 87. nowhere near the record, 99 which was set in 2013. out there now, it is 75 degrees. very comfortable afternoon. east wind at 3. but from time to time, we are see ago breeze

yesterday then the cold front came through. this shot from joy jordan northwest of bennett. this is when the front came through, created a little roll cloud with some of the thunderstorms that really kicked up. and peter from centennial sent this shot of the beautiful sunflowers out there near dia. good shot there. all right, here is what is happening now. we are watching the high pressure coming in from california into nevada. today, that is giving us a northwesterly flow here. and that is helping to suppress the moisture wn same thing will happen tomorrow. the high gets a little closer so it will bring warmer temperatures in. but you can see most of the moisture is there coming out of mexico and new mexico. it should be held down to southern stretches of the state tomorrow, that shows up in the futurecast. we start out clear tomorrow. and there's the afternoon storm theres in the southern stretches of our state. park county. jefferson county, douglas county, you might gate a little weak buildup in the afternoon, but it will be a very slight chance.

>> reporter: shot putter and first time olympian darell hill may not have made it to the finals. >> it is going to be a daily never forget. >> reporter: but for his biggest supporter, his dad, just being in rio to watch his son compete was a gift worth more than olympic gold. until last month, he had no intention of going. >> i had already made a decision, you know, to stay home. and not really go out of my way to try to get the money. >> reporter: that all changed when the retired bus driver picked up in his uber car. hill told her his son was competing in rio but he couldn't afford to go. >> she had a friend that was competeing in the swimming. i told her about my son. >> reporter: you did her one better. she has a friend and you have your son. >> that was awesome. >> reporter: she promised to help. >> when he told me he couldn't go to the olympics in rio, i wondered how i would feel as a

within days, 152 people donated $8,200 to pay for hill's flight and travel expenses. after traveling more than 5,000 miles, hill arrived in rio. >> can you believe you are here? >> no. >> some incredible new video out of canada where kayakers had a close encounter with two humpback whales. a mother and calf could be seen jumping out of the water just a few feet from the kayakers. group was on a expedition. they paddled over for a closer look. check out the view they got. [ screaming ] [ laughter ] >> they do it when they are excited. you can see in the video, that when the baby breached, they probably had a really good feeding. they were happy, the baby got everything she needed. and so then, the baby comes shooting out of the water and mom is just as excited. >> some have criticized the
