developing now. and innocent driver is dead after getting hit by a driver who is believed to have been street racing. that fatal crash shut down parts of federal boulevard in the i-76 on-ramp for most of the evening. we go there live now. japheth -- jeff, the state to spend millions to prevent street racing in that area. >> reporter: this stretch of federal between 52nd and 67th has seen crashes before. cars were headed southbound, ran the red light and that is when the crash happened. >> racing southbound and a northbound vehicle was making a left turn. he got t-bone. >> reporter: the driver didn't know what was coming. the impact sent the car spinning into a light post. the driver was the only person inside and was pronounced dead at the scene. >> will be racing down the street.

this chevy were sent to the hospital and its expected the driver will be excited. the 2nd racing car left the scene and investigators don't have a description. the crash happened after 5 pm. federal was closed underneath i- 76 for hours into the night is investigators mapped out what they believe happened. >> we get these unfortunate incidents when people decide to race down the streets. >> reporter: project was just completed last summer on this 15 block stretch of federal. there used to be no median so street racing was a big problem because it was essentially 5 lanes of traffic wide open. cdot put in these medians hoping to stop an accident. live from denver. the search is on for a man

keybank. he is described as white, 25 years old. investigators have not released information. new tonight, families desperate call for help. 7 months after their son vanished. the 20-year-old was last seen generate 17th leaving the eldora mountain ski resort. we spoke with johnson father who is offering a large reward for information. >> this is flagstaff wrote in southwest boulder county. his father believed here after work to watch the sunset. but since then, he is not been seen. no one has been able to say what happened to him. >> he was wonderful care. a caring and compassionate and humble kind kid. >> reporter: he talks about his missing son, the boulder man does not believe he had any desire to leave his job at eldora mountain resort. his girlfriend or colorado. efforts to find him have been

that project approved by the army corps of engineers would build a crude oil pipeline that spans 1100 miles between dakota and illinois. members of the standing rock sioux tribe in north dakota say the pipeline could contaminate their local drinking water and their secret land. construction of the pipeline has temporarily been halted due to the ongoing protests. new information. a woman who was hit and killed while walking along i-76 yesterday. the victim has been identified as 51-year of aurora. tonight authorities are still searching for the driver who hit her. family members say they are shocked and devastated over her death. >> shock and disbelief. loss. >> reporter: a family is in mourning after the tragic loss of cindy augustian. she was struck and killed off

our weather watcher in arvada is coming in at 57. and nancy in lafayette is that 54. i had to show you this picture. see this snowboarder? he shot this a couple of days ago at st. mary's glacier, and you see a cross country skier. some areas had a light dusting in the last 24 hours. it will clear out tonight, sunny by tomorrow morning. the d host thunderstorms will be over southern colorado. there may be one or 2 in southern jefferson county. but that is about as close to denver as they will get. overnight lows 40s in the mountains. 40s and 50s download. 60s on the western slope. highs tomorrow a little warmer. we're looking at 80s and a few 90s in sterling and the hunter.

i forecast tonight, mostly clear with 53 in the city. air-quality is good. mostly sunny and warmer tomorrow. act to near normal pictures, 87 at the airport. looking ahead, monday will be hot at 90 with isolated thunderstorms. 85 on tuesday. wednesday and thursday and other cold front comes through. the 70s will come back, a little that are chance of rain on leading into the following weekend, cool on friday and back to the 80s on saturday and sunday. a little of the roller coaster thing. nice temperatures. 70s and low 80s. thank you for watching cbs4 news.

over a million ears of corn are picked a day here in olathe, colorado. and i'm glad we have a senator who uses his ears to listen to what's most important to colorado farmers. michael bennet asked what he could do to help, and then worked with republicans to make a farm bill that's making a difference to all farmers in colorado. the thing that impresses me most about michael bennet: we don't always agree, but he values our input. and i do trust michael bennet to look out for us.
