breaking news this afternoon to tell you about. denver police are hunting for a suspect who apparently rammed a cruiser during a traffic stop, then abandoned that black truck in a parking lot, and stole another vehicle. i'm britt moreno. thanks for joining us. it all started at 39th and peoria. kelly, i understand that police believe the suspect is armed. >> reporter: right now police

with a handgun, and he's quite possibly driving the white truck he stole right from this parking lot. this is the black truck that was involved earlier and you can see the damage on the front end of this truck from where this truck rammed with a police car earlier this morning. denver police say this started shortly before 10:00 this morning. they were attempting to do a traffic stop near motel 6th 6th near 39th and peoria. the suspect rammed the cop car, taking off starting a chase. we should mention the the black pickup but found it abandoned here near the 2100 block of south holly the. surveillance video from a nearby liquor store shows the moments the suspect got in the white truck, stealing it from this parking lot, and taking off. we did speak with the boss of the woman who owns the stolen truck, and she says that woman is in shock. >> she came out to get in her truck to get something out of her truck and her truck was gone, so quickly she called the president of our company, told

of a sudden police came swarming in. >> she's a little nervous, you know, to think that somebody has taken your vehicle, and it's involved, you know, in what appears to be a criminal thing, that's kind of scary. >> reporter: now, the stolen truck is described as a white 1998f250 with black flames that are on the bottom. it is a ford truck with montana license plates urged to call 911 right away. now, as you can tell, this is still a very active scene here at 2100 holly. you can see the inside of the truck where the suspect got out. you can see tools sitting there in the front seat, the keys, lots of evidence in this case. police are telling us we do have to back up so we want to preserve this scene for them as this is an active investigation. police are going to be here for quite some time as they, of course, continue to search for

we will be sure to bring it to you on air and onlines a cbsdenver.com. reporting live in denver, kelly werthmann, cbs4 news. >> thank you for breaking that down for us. new at noon, a hiker on lookout mountain records two men spray painting some rocks. now the sheriff's office is investigating this. that hiker then posted the entire incident on you tube. here's some of it right now. cbs4's jamie leary has been working the scene for us. she's there where the graffiti was and she hiker. >> reporter: you take a walk over here through beautiful lookout mountain park, this is what's left behind, bright orange graffiti on a few faces of these rocks here. the young men responsible could face charges all thanks to a passerby who caught the crime in action on his cell phone. he then goes as far as to get a close up of their faces on camera, and follows them to their car to document the license plate. it happened on saturday while he was hiking with his fiance.

paint cans and he started rolling. >> you guys know you're defacing property. they were just spray painting over there, so i wanted to get them on camera. >> reporter: we spoke with him today, and he didn't want to be identified because he says the culprits threatened him. he says he hopes posting the video will make them take responsibility for their actions. >> i see graffiti on trails. i see people leaving trash on and just i don't feel like there's enough accountability for this type of stuff, and i don't feel like it's taken seriously enough. >> reporter: th county sheriff's office is in the process of running that license plate when we spoke to them this afternoon. while the maximum penalty is unlikely, the two could face a misdemeanor charge of defacing a property which carries a thousand dollar fine and a year in jail. jamie leary cbs4 news. thank you, jay jamie -- jamie. police are investigating a deadly crash that closed buckley road this morning. a man on a motorcycle involved in that collision died. two people were on the

the road was closed for almost 6 hours during that investigation, but so far, no word on any charges. a bride and a groom returned to the scene of the suicide bombing that killed at least 54 people at their wedding in turkey. 22 of them were under the age of 14. the couple was supposed to move into the home where it happened. officials believe the wedding was targeted because it was an all kurdish gathering. holly williams reports. >> reporter: the bride were taken to hospital apparently in shock after their wedding party became the scene of a massacre. just 40 miles from the syrian border, and isis is the most likely culprit according to turkey's president. so far, the extremists haven't claimed responsibility but if this suicide bomber was indeed a child, it wouldn't be the first time that isis has

in the iraq city, authorities stopped this boy wearing a suicide vest and prevented him from detonating himself. this boy turned himself in to police in baghdad in 2014 asking them to cut off his suicide vest because he didn't want to blow himself up. turkish officials say they are trying to identify the young suicide bomber. they're apparently examining the remnants of th scene. holly williams, cbs news, istanbul. new developments in the case of a former police officer accused in a road rage incident. blare jackson appeared in court in greeley this morning where a job read him his rights. now, he's charged with vehicular homicide. there he is, covering up his face. jackson worked for the police officer at the time of the incident in june. witnesses say they saw him driving a subaru that was

on the roadways. the two apparently tailgated each other at speeds up to 80 miles per hour. one witness says the subaru cut off the truck which caused esteban moreno to die in the accident. a garbage truck rolled over on the southbound ramp. fortunately no one was hurt but it did tie up traffic for a couple of hours, and the trash was out there republican nominee donald trump says he's not flip- flopping on his immigration policy. now for democrat hillary clinton, there is a new round of e-mail troubles. cbs's weija jang starts with the trump campaign. >> reporter: donald trump tried to clarify his position on immigration. >> we have to be very strong when people come in illegally. >> reporter: the comments

indicate he may be changing his mind about deporting the 11 million people in this country illegally. on sunday his newly appointed campaign manager added to the speculation of a possible shift in his deportation stance. >> will that plan include a deportation. >> to be determined. >> reporter: the latest cbs news battle ground tracker survey founds hillary clinton with a 6 point lead in ohio. clinton and trump iowa. controversy over clinton's use of a private e-mail server continues to follow her on the campaign trail. this time, a result of comments made by former secretary of state colin powell. people magazine quotes him as saying, her people have been trying to pin it on me. the truth is she was using the private e-mail server for a year before i sent her a memo telling her what i did. the fbi says it has uncovered

. welcome back. a woman accused in a case of elderly abuse in lafayette is out on bond and due back in court next family members say julie steinhook brainwashed their elderly mother. >> my mom was hiding everything that was going on from my sister and i. we didn't have a clue on what was going on. >> reporter: it was earlier this year when julie moved into this lafayette home with the elderly victim. over time she gained the victim's trust and was even written into the victim's will. investigators believe. she was working to drain the bank accounts and take the

everything. let's take a look outside where there's still some sunshine. still a little cloudy in some areas as well. not a bad afternoon. it is still warm outside. actually, a little bit warmer than yesterday at this time, and yesterday got a little bit toasty around here. we hit 91 degrees. taking a look at our temperature change, we are 4 degrees warmer in denver, greeley, and boulder, 5 degrees warmer in ray and fort collins. that puts us at 87 degrees in denver. 79 in greeley. 85 in burlington. 60 81 over in grand junction. it's warm across the front range and eastern plains. it is a little bit cloudier. we have some gusty winds on the eastern plains. those winds are strong from ray, to limon, where we have gusts between 20 and 40 miles per hour. it's a little bit windy up near eagle. not too bad as we head toward the high country. we also have rain, more developing in parts of the high country, the foothills and off to the west where there's just been a few spotty showers throughout most of the morning hours and a little lightning as

san juans. that rain will get more widespread as we head into the afternoon and evening, in denver, a chance that we get an isolated couple of storms in our direction. most stays to our west, and then down to the south. eastern plains, a few thunderstorms this evening and then tomorrow morning may have a few scattered showers to the west to start the day mainly on the western slope and here in denver, we should be on the dry side, and we have a chance for a few more thunderstorms coming our way in the afternoon and evening. not a great chance. the possibility is out there. most of the activity today and tomorrow stays in the high country and some skirts to th going to be a warm one. 91 degrees in denver. 9 # in greeley -- 92 in greeley. in the mountains, a lot of 70s with 72 in eagle. 73 in aspen. 85 in grand junction. hot for recess but not too bad. later this week they'll get a little bit of a break. 91 degrees around 3:00, and we have the chance for some evening thunderstorms rolling through our direction for your 5-day forecast tomorrow,

welcome back, a consumer alert for drivers. a aaa finds a record number of drivers need help on the roads, and many calls for help are from drivers of newer cars. not what you would expect, right. cbs's chris martinez explains why new technology could be to blame. >> reporter: every day, los angeles tow truck driver comes to the rescue of >> 70 to 80 calls a day. >> reporter: his first on this shift, a hybrid toyota that wouldn't start because of problems with the battery under the hood and in the trunk. >> very common. >> reporter: aaa rescued a record 32 million drivers in 2015 commonly with battery or tire issues and it's newer vehicles that are having problems. aaa says about 40% of new cars don't come with a spare tire. when michelle stevens got a flat on her way to work last

>> there was too big of a hole to use that, so i had to call for a tow truck. >> reporter: aaa says newer technologies in cars are contributing to break downs, keyless ignition systems in some vehicles can put a major strain on the battery. >> that with all the additional electronic devices on vehicles today will drain the battery more quickly. the life expectancy rate of a battery is only 3 years. and if you have that battery you're living on borrowed time. >> reporter: on this call, ed found his customer's battery was a goner. >> 100%. back to the dealer to get a new battery. >> reporter: aaa says regularly checking your tire pressure and testing your battery once it reaches 3 years old can help ensure you face fewer problems on the road. chris martinez, cbs news, los angeles. leave for vacation, come home to find the wheels stolen
