joins us live tonight. this suspect tried desperately to get away.>> reporter: police say he tried to lose them by driving into this field, so much so that he actually damaged the vehicle. you can see some of the pieces lying in the field. once the vehicle was unable to continue running, he jumped out and took off on foot before being chased down by a canine. a three-month-old and three- year-old, both girls, were in the cheap the entire was happening. police say mom left the two girls and her keys in the jeep while she ran into the family dollar. while she was inside, she sees a man jump into her vehicle, so she runs outside and tries to stop him but he pushes her to the side and leaves. a short time later, if orton police officer's audit that vehicle on i-25 and took chase, ending up in this field. samuel hubbard was in the area and snapped this photo. the girls were reunited with their mother.

the two kids out of the vehicle. a three-month-old and a three- year-old and they just looked so relieved. one of the officers actually looked like he was tearing up because they were just so happy the kids weren't hurt. >> reporter: that suspect has been identified as 34-year-old eric maces. as far as the mother goes, there is no word yet on if she will also face charges for leaving those important karen morfitt cbs 4 news. in an update on breaking news we brought you one cbs 4 news at noon, police are looking for the man who stole two pickup trucks and even rammed a patrol car along the way. the trouble started this morning at a motel in the 12,000 block of east 39th avenue. police tried to contact a driver in a black pickup. he hit the officer's car and sped off. the officer wasn't hurt.

holly and evidence. we have surveillance video of someone police believe is the same man stealing another pickup and driving off. that white ford f2 50 has montana plates. the latest on a deadly crash in arapahoe county. deputies say two people on a motorcycle crashed into an suv at buckley road and crestline. it was just after midnight and a man on that motorcycle died. officers shutdown buckley for nearly 6 hours during the investigation. also developing, investigators looking to identify too young mammals caught on video spray painting rocks. a hiker took this really great video of them and it happened on lookout mountain, not far from buffalo bills grave on i- 70. our tom mustin on the scene of the graffiti and these guys were hot -- caught red-handed. >> reporter: they were. the men, -- the man, we will call him joe, was walking with

the two men in action and he's hoping that video will bring the two suspects to light. >> you know your defacing property, right?>> reporter: joe didn't want us to show his face after shooting this video of taggers defacing roxette lookout mountain park. >> let me just get a frontal of your face real quick. >> reporter: joe and his fiancie heard the sound of spray paint cans while hiking on saturday afternoon. they then saw orange graffiti on the rocks. name, someone's name is gay, which is obviously homophobic. >> reporter: joe moved from florida to enjoy the outdoors. when he saw the graffiti, something snapped >> this is just not acceptable, especially for the beauty and nature we have here in colorado. >> reporter: he yelled at the two young men and started filming as they tried to hide their faces.

owners. look for that coverage on cbs 4 tomorrow evening. hillary clinton's email controversy following her on the campaign trail. the state department today said it's going through nearly 15,000 emails, recovered during an fbi investigation into her use of a private email server while serving as secretary of state. the emails were not among the 55,000 documents clinton's lawyers had turned over last year. the department expects to release the first messages just before the presidential election. coming up at 5:30 pm, more on those new emails including an explainer on why it might take several more weeks before they are released. only on 4, we hear from a man who had to be rescued on top of a mountain after a boulder pinned him and found him. that victim is in the hospital. the victim was looking for james and chaffee county when that happened. the crucial joins us.

a woman in florida believes divine intervention helped save her two young children when the family's boat overturned. >> she also is thinking rescuers who pulled her toddler out of the water after more than an hour on friday in the indian river in cocoa, florida.>> reporter: the family was coming back from dinner when their boat crashed into a wire supporting a telephone pole. everyone on board fell into the water including their baby and toddler. >> the book completely capsized. it's upside down? is under the boat. >> reporter: when officer met rush and corporal alan worthy arrived on the scene, they immediately pulled the parents and children to safety but they could hear the toddler crying and didn't know where. they realized she was trapped under the boat. the water was cold and dark and the rescuers did not have on life jackets or oxygen tanks. after about 45 minutes of searching, officer rush finally reached her in an air pocket

high. how about nolan arenado? he got out of a slump in a big way yesterday. he was four for five against the cubs. the rockies winning the series against the cubs with an 11-4 victory and nolan arenado coming into the game and he was one of 16 in the prior games. his first run was a three run shot giving the rock is a three to to 0 lead and then hit another three run homer in the 4th. as i mentioned, nolan arenado, one of 16 in the five previous games. he said he spent extra time at the ballpark saturday night and apparently, it worked. >> sometimes it feels like it's never going to end at after the game last night, the assistant guide, we were talking about it. he would always be like i feel like there's not much. about say there is something off. we were talking about it, watching video trying to figure it out. today, we were trying to figure it out and it was a good day.
