first let's check with joel. we have copter 4 heading over to walsworth and 23rd where there's a water main break. this has closed off 26th out to 22nd. your alter net is to take kipling or take sheridan southbound out to 6th avenue or all the way out to i-70. >> thanks for breaking it down, joel. two people are dead in a head on crash in loveland. it happened shortly after 10:00 last night on highway 34 east of a pickup truck was going the wrong way. and he slammed into another woman in a different car. both of them died. police say they don't know why the man was going the wrong way. they live with the decisions that effect their lives every single day. the state is trying to help homeless people have more say. jaime leary live at the mlk public library in aurora to explain how the state is helping the homeless to vote now. jaime, explain.

event kicks off right here this morning. it's called homeless, not voiceless. despite the hardship that homeless face everyday, there should be a way for them to exercise their way to vote. so many factors can contribute to homelessness, and the highest one is job loss and illness. the homeless don't have a permanent the county clerk can send them ballot. there's an outreach to homeless conducted along colfax corridor to let them know about the event this morning. they want to get more people to register to vote. although they're registering those in aurora, the effort is for all of denver county. wayne williams will speak here this morning. that's at 10:00. the actual event where official was register homeless to vote quicks

clinton continues his fundraiser today. questions over her e mail server is asked as the scandal reignited. a federal judge ordered the state department to release close to 15,000 previously undisclosed documents and e-mailed recovered by the fbi. clinton aide said they're not sure what's in the documents -- meanwhile trump head to texas rally supporters. he continues to make a pitch to minority voters. >> what do you have to lose? i'll straighten it out. we'll get rid of the crime. you'll be able to walk down the street without getting shot. >> a new monmouth university poll finds clinton leading trump among black, hispanic and asian voters, 72 to 10%. trump won't be a making a speech about immigration on thursday in denver.

63 degrees in westminster this morning. says it's a nice fall-like morning. satellite and radar, we have rain moving into our south western area. the rest of us are on the dry and clear side, but later today, that rain could get heavy as we head from parts of mesa county down south and into some of the southern mountain areas thanks to heavy rainfall that could head our way especially out that direction. looking at hour-by-hour forecast, 88 by 2:00 and there's a chance of thunderstorms this evening here in denver. we'll talk more about that in a moment. let's check with joel. we have a traffic alert we're following this morning as you head southbound along walsworth. there's a water main break at 23rd. it looks like traffic is moving in the northbound direction right now. but again, live pictures from copter 4 of this water main break. they've got crews out there already getting this repaired, but that's going to effect your morning commute, southbound completely blocked off right now. let me show you

going to 6th avenue this morning, the best way to do is take kipling or take sheridan and to avoid walsworth north of colfax this morning. let me take you to the denver-metro area, it's loading up. westbound along i-76, we're going to start to see that turn yellow. we're seeing it turn yellow eastbound along i-270. patches where speed was dipping into the 30s and into the 20s. cyclist aren't going to have trouble rhino district. the bike lane featured a rhino. the rhino district is the first to have fun with the bike lane signs. alan. >> joel, thanks a lot. president obama head heads to louisiana to look at damage. people have criticized him for not ending his vacation earlier. the louisiana governor defended the president saying he didn't want to divert resources for the president if he had come sooner. flooding is bad.

morning. >> all of our treasure and memories on the side of the road. and we don't know what we're going to do. >> republican presidential candidate trump did visit the area last week. clinton said she'll go to the area when her presence doesn't disrupt emergency response efforts. florida governor rick scott meets with community leaders over growing concerns about the zika virus. the florida allocating another $5 million in funding for preparedness and mosquito control. this is a separate case from the $26.2 million already authorized. new this morning, the health department says the zika virus has infected 21 coloradans this year. that includes four people from weld county. none of them contracted the virus while in colorado. the cases are all travel-related. experts say the mosquitos carrying zika do not survive in colorado's climate.

they warn people to take precautions when traveling to areas active with virus. still more mosquitos spraying in fort collins. crews getting back out tomorrow night and sunday as well. spraying supposed to last until 8:00 to 2:00 a.m. each night. we're learning about the father killed by lightning over the weekend in northern colorado. 45-year old chad trover was at crystal lake. jenna was dad when lightning struck. >> the phone line cut out. and i kept trying to call him back. there was no answer. >> that's heartbreaking. trover died a few hours later at the hospital. his daughter takes comfort knowing her father spent his last hours in the mountains of northern colorado. it is the place she says he loved the most. colorado smokers may have another reason to quit. here's why.

in november whether to triple cigarette taxes. that proposal would increase taxes from 84 cents per pack to $2.59 a pack. this initiative will generate, they believe about (31) 500-0000 next year for existing tobacco prevention programs. two commerce city police officers are suspended for chasing cartoons rather than criminals. they were apparently playing pokemon go instead of training recruits. a supervisor unusual places and recruits confessed saying their superior officers were not training them. the department suspended the officers late last week and revoked their training authority. news of the pokemon hunt comes after the justice department reviewed the department for officer misconduct cases. 6:09. here's what's coming up next on the cbs4 morning news. new sugar limits

and across the front range and eastern plains. let's look at our temperatures this morning. 62 in denver. 70 in boulder. 58 in burlington. 57 in ray and akron. in the mountains, 48 in avon. 46 in aspen and 61 in over in grand junction. satellite and radar, the front eastern plains, we're on the dry side and we have a little rain that's moving into our south western area of the state. we're going to see that increase as we head into the afternoon hours or later morning hours. with that, a potential rainfall could cause flash flooding. mesa county into montezuma and platta, we do have flash flood watching from noon until midnight. we could get heavy rainfall. we have saturated soils and saturated mud oils. looking at our future cast, sunny across the front range with increasing clouds through the afternoon. heavy rainfall in the south western area and we could get that rain in denver in the later afternoon

live in aurora, jaime leary, cbs4 morning news. >> jaime, thank you. a trial starts today for a woman accused of shooting a man inside of a seminole home. they say she called 911 to report she shot a house guest. the man survived. police haven't said what led up to that shooting. prosecutors claims this is attempted murder. two children kidnapped during a cap theft in federal heights are safe at home this morning. the thief i behind bars. police say the children's mother left her 3-month-old and 3-year old in her jeep yesterday as she walked into a family dollar store. the jeep was turned on and that's when a man got inside and drove off with the children there. officers caught up with all three at i-25 and thornton parkway. the thief stopped only because of a flat tire. this photo captures the moment police took the two young children in

huggard saw the end of the chase and took pictures of the reunion. >> the mother was emotional and it looks like a family member was holding her hand walking with her and she's gasping for air. >> police arrested eric. it's unclear if the mom will face any charges for leaving her children in the suv. new this morning, two hikers stuck on one of colorado's most dangerous peaks are back on solid ground. i'm going to show you denver is up here and aspen here. capiak closer and show you why this is one of the most dangerous peaks in colorado. this really has some sharp ridges on it here as you can see capital peak right there. a hiker called them yesterday saying two people were stuck on that 14 [indiscernible]. this comes from you tube. this is knife's edge on capital peak. you can see how sharp this is. a hail storm made it difficult for the hikers to get down.

take you to the north as we've had an accident that has backups near harmony road. there's an accident and an accident in the backups itself. we have a cdot camera that direction. this is the good news this morning as you can see traffic finally moving along, but it is just crawling. alan. >> not a good place to sleep out there with that mattress on the road. not a good choice. troopers say street racing may not be the cause of a deadly crash on federal and a 48-year old father died on saturday afternoon. investigators say dominic sandoval t-boned jefferson and jefferson died. sandoval and his 16-year old passenger are in the hospital with serious injuries. troopers aren't exactly sure if they street racing or try to go beat a stoplight. watch out for dead animals

65-year old boulder -- a man developed symptoms. it's found in dead rodents and -- there's video of two men spray painting rocks on look out mountain. the hiker shared the video of the vandalism with the jefferson county sheriff's office and he posted it to you tube and the vandals streets. the man behind the camera didn't want to show his face because the vandals threatened him. he did want to talk to us. >> he spray somebody's name. and this is homophobic. this isn't acceptable for the beauty in colorado. >> videos the vandals car will help locate them. the two guys here face a misdemeanor charge and facing --

we understand he's going to participate in a small roundtable with business leaders. trump's speech on immigration is not happening of -- and there's talks of him flipping his decision on deportation. clinton continues her west coast fundraising tour today. she continues to defend the controversial e-mail server she used as secretary of state. a state department 1 month make a month release 15,000 document it's received from the fbi as apart of its investigation into the server. clinton's campaign says quote we support those documents being released publicly as well. new this morning, the fbi is investigating a double stabbing in virginia as a possible tare

the attacker yelled god is great. he's accused of stabbing a man and woman. the man fought him off and the attacker ran. the fbi is investigating whether that attack was inspired by isis and whether the suspect there was trying to behead the victims. the suspect is in custody being held without bond. denver police want to find a man they call quote very dangerous. officers say he was driving a stolen black pickup truck when they tried to pull o peoria. the driver slammed into a patrol car and sped off. the truck was found. he gets away with another pickup truck. the owner explains what happens in this case. >> she came out to get in her truck to get something out of her truck and her truck was gone. >> no one was hurt. that's the good news. police say the thief may be driving that white 1998 f-250 still.
