have played a role. body was a student teacher in the mapleton public schools. the district staff is heartbroken for her family. a boulder man is in the hospital following a 9-hour manhunt. more than 6,000 homes got reverse 911 calls alerting residents to the danger. police first checked on the suspect's motor home this was parked illegally. 34-year-old russell daniels fired four police shielded her from the gunfire. >> there is actually -- they threw her to the ground and covered her with their bodies to protect her from the shots being fired >> reporter: that woman had a restraining order against daniels after an extensive search. daniels nouk

sheriff tom hannah is accused of taking an inmate from the jail to his home and sexually assaulting her. he appeared in a logan county courtroom today. andrea flores was there, and joins us live from the courthouse. >> reporter: hannetwork a kept his head down for most of the hearing today saying he plans to contest every charge. >> i'm really surprised. couldn't have been anymore surprised. >> reporter: elane listens across the street from tom hana and surprised to learn he's accused of sexually assaulting a mentally disabled inmate.

affidavit, he allegedly took the woman from the jail to his home in his personal vehicle. he allegedly offered her $60 for sex, forced her to strip and performed sexual acts on her. the victim told investigators she gave the money back. he then handcuffed the woman at his home and transmitted her to the logan county jail. the affidavit states he later depoftded $20 into -- deposited $20 intoary commry >> there was information given to me that i had to act on quickly, and i did that. and once i deemed it necessary, i brought in the investigation and went from there and made the decision today that they needed to take over. so everything happened quickly, but i've done everything with as much transparency as possible. >> reporter: although hannetwork a is still the

sheriff in the meantime f. he is convicted, he faces life in prison. in a tied vote, 5--- tight vote, 5-4, thornton started to allow retail pot shots. it was one of the biggest cities in the area with a ban. some residents testified the shops would send a bad message to kids. counselors said the revenue. the number of retail marijuana shops will be limited to four, and thornton will start accepting applications next week. the thornton council approved a new topgolf driving range, near 136th and i-25. some were fighting the project. concerts late on friday, concerts late on saturday, not to mention the traffic.

fully employed. i go to school. and i had a roof over my head >> reporter: until last night. phil anthony came home from work to find caution tape and danger signs barring access to his apartment. the city suddenly shut it down, citing a slew of hazardous conditions. anthony had been living at the denver international youth hostel for the part of four months saying the $115 a week rent he could afford while pursuing a degree in engineering >> reporter: neither does keith, one of the residents who spent the night here. he and others now may be sleeping at a homeless shelter. >> i was transported from paying rent to being treated as a transient. being treated as a homeless person. >> reporter: the rent he says he paid to the host ole owner was supposed to last through next tuesday. >> they took my money, everybody else's money.
