find only more victims. tina courthouse is in central italy. >> reporter: the powerful earthquake shook people out of their beds in the middle of the night, it flattened much of amatrice, a town 100 miles northeast of rome. rescue teams and volunteers are digging through mountains of debris where homes once stood. [ speaking foreign language ] >> reporter: an emergency worker tried to calm a woman trapped in the appeared badly injured with her face barely visible under the wall that fell on top of her. earthquake hit just after 3:30 am while many were sleeping. there have been dozen was powerful after shock. people are afraid to go indoors. [ speaking foreign language ] >> reporter: some residents say the military response has been slow. large slabs of concrete fell from buildings trapping people and crushing car.

huddled in a field. there are glimmers of hope amid the destruction. rescuers pulled a man and a young girl from the rubble alive. as nightfall, it's a race against time to save more lives. powerful earthquake in myanmar killed at least four people today. most buildings there remain in tact. the disaster damaged nearly 100 ancient buddhist temples. u.s. geological survey in golden is working with the mu scale to measure the intensity of the shaking of the earthquakes. >> seismologist dr. hayes pointed out the one in myanmar had a 6.8 magnitude, greater than that in italy. but it likely caused fewer problems despite being a more populated area because the quake in myanmar was deeper underground. >> the different lines other

trinidad. look at the southwest, telluride actually 12 degrees warmer, 14 warmer in gunnison, even grand junction at 4 degrees warmer. as we look at tomorrow's forecast, here it is, 3:00, and here comes the showers and storms once again. they're back tomorrow, friday. here comes the weekend, i'll let you know what's coming. a deputy killed while on duty is recognized for his bravery. today there was a ceremony to honor nate kerri shot in park county earlier this year serving an eviction notice. >> reporter: month afrs that shooting outside of bay -- months after that shooting, the deputies who were there that day received medals for their action under fire. it was a tense service here in park county. the family of nate kerrigan who was killed in that shooting accepted his medal from the same sheriff the family plans on suing.

>> reporter: one of the worst days in the history of the park county sheriff's office. >> it's been hard on all of us. it's a time for us to now to heal. >> reporter: deputies attempting to serve an eviction notice to a man who had made threats against police before. martin werth launched an assault using a high-caliber rifle. minutes that have forever changed these officers and their families' lives. >> the deputy his body while returning fire. >> reporter: they carry the scars from that horrible day. >> the assailant opened fire directly on deputy martin, and the other officers. martin was struck by gunfire and seriously wounded. >> reporter: these deputies although injured did go home to their families eventually. their fellow deputy that day did not. >> corporal nate kerrigan, it is with extreme sorrow and honor

up there. at least partly sunny. those clouds are beginning to part as we dry out. doppler 4,000 shows that. we did have the showers that are now drying off to the east. we're seeing some breaks in the clouds. a row of showers and thunderstorms coming through. so we might not be out of the woods for another shower, isolated thunderstorm. you can see the line going from north to south right there, and over the trinidad area. a lot of storms and showers still moving in there as well. as far as the moisture goes, out in the west, we did pretty well, a half inch to an inch and everybody got a nice, good, steady rain, refreshingly cool temperatures. and you can see the shadow under the bridge there, sunshine to the west. from the colorado state patrol in golden, it showes the snow on loveland pass. always a good sight for the skiers. as far as the hour by hour forecast goes, the showers and thunderstorms die down overnight, start the day with sunny sky, increasing clouds by three time 30 in the afternoon. here come the showers and thunderstorms, they hang

charges. >> reporter: andrea flores where sedgewick county's sheriff's bond was set at a quarter million dollars by a judge is. he plans to contest every charge. those charges include two felony sexual assault allegations, official misconducting and soliciting. according to an arrest affidavit he allegedly took a handcuffed developmentally disabled woman from jail to his home i personal vehicle. there he allegedly offered her $60 for sex, forced thor strip and perform sexual acts on her. the victim told investigators she later gave the money back. he handcuffed the woman at his home and transported her to the logan county jail. the affidavit states he later deposited $20 into her commissary account. the coroner will fill in as the acting sheriff. if convicted,

melissa garcia in denver where close to 100 people are on the streets after the city shut down this youth hostel. residents got off work yesterday to find their home surrounded with caution tape and danger signs. the city cited the building owner for a slew of fire code violations. some residents have lived here for months or years and have full-time jobs or are students. this is an affordable place to live. now they are on their way to a homeless shelter. last night, 50 of them emergency shelter set up by the red cross and the salvation army. that shelter is now closed. some residents are out of the advanced rent money they paid for the hostel. we caught up with the owner who is working to refund them and says he was shocked at shutdown and was unaware ever the fire code violations. we did just hear from denver human services who say they're work ing to help those residents with basic needs and shelter. >> still some rain showers out
