like temperatures in a moment and the chance for rain. we're watching a great drive, good start to the morning commute this morning. this is a look at i-25 and thornton parkway. a couple cone zones out there and we'll break those down coming up in a bit. the search overnight in italy has workers using buckets and digging through the rubble to try and locate any of the survivors after the deadly earthquake hit leaving 250 people dead and the number expected to climb higher. here's our reid benyon with the latest. >> reporter: emergency crews and bystanders battling rough terrain and limited access in the search for survivors. amatrice's clock hands frozen at 3:30 a.m., the moment the earthquake struck.

always there to help. the earthquake it in italy had a 6.2 magnitude. the one in myanmar had in a more populated area but it wasn't as bad because it was further underground. >> the different lines are the intensity of shaking. when you have these that means intensity of very severe shaking. a ten is considered extreme and the one many myanmar was considered a six or strong. let's get a check on weather now for this thursday morning. 49 degrees in denver. we have dropped in the last few minutes. 48 in boulder and 38 in limon

morning. 28 days to go until the official season. 60 in grand junction. satellite and radar for now is quiet. there's been rain in the south eastern corner but that's starting to ease up. for the most part today is mostly sunny skies with a few clouds and a really nice start to the day. rain coming in after 4:00 or 5:00. heavy pocket ts of rain but for the most part it's lith to moderate and there's snow 12,000 feet as well. really a nice day in the mid 70s. 71 by noon and in the 70s throughout the afternoon and storm chances coming in after 3:00 or 4:00. good morning, we have been watching a great drive across the denver metro area this morning. here's a look at airport boulevard. that's what it's going to look like. some company on the road and you won't be lonely. that's what we're seeing across the denver metro area.

speeds into the 60s is a 7-minute drive. there's an accident in jersey so a couple side street trouble spots and that's it. the search continues for a bank robber who is good at his work. police say he hit four banks earlier this summer and struck again on tuesday. lauren has more. for the fifth time this summer police say 39-year old shawn scott has robbed bank. this time tuesday morning at the tcf bank on the corner of broadway and evans avenue. investigators say scott showed a money demanding money. it's a pattern scott keeps repeating despite having already been caught on camera. at another south broadway bank at spear boulevard and the u.s. bank on 38th and julian. he's used a bike in past

away fast. people who work in businesses along broadway tell cbs4 that tcf bank has been robbed twice before. >> we are by the bus stop so he could probably think he could make a quick stop. >> police say he's six feet tall with a thin building weighing around 150 pounds. if you have any information that could lead to his arrest, call ski trains coming back this morning. jamie leary is life at union station now. soon people can hop on the ski train again. this feels good. >> reporter: not soon enough for me but yes, it's true. the train will be taking off right here from track four and bring you to the slopes of winter park. the resort and amtrak making the big announcement later this morning but they didn't want to

it's called the amtrak winter park express. this is a second revival of full service for the train and like the old train, it will stop at the base of the ski resort. regular service went from 1940 to 2009 and was brought back for a few weekend trips in march of 2015. we were there last season when amtrak made a run up the hill. 400 tickets sold out in a matter of hours. the old ski train ended after issues with iowa pacific but full service expected to return and unlike limited service in last year of march, it's actually going to be running a few more times every weekend from january all the way through march on weekends so plenty of opportunities to take advantage of it. as far as the cost, we don't know that as of right now. last year in march of 2015 it was $75 to ride. what a need story.

a pathologist from rose medical center is planning a 200-mile bike ride through the alps in swiz land. his niece is fighting the disease. a picnic was held to help raise money. >> we really brought the community of leukemia here locally. we hope to do something more national in the future. >> all proceeds leukemia and lymphoma society. the fda has now approved a remarkable new lens for people with cataracts. >> doctors say the lens is giving patients their natural vision back and reducing the need for glasses. here's kathy walsh. >> reporter: bruce gold blat owns a tower company. 18 months ago his vision changed. >> i started to notice shadowing

impaired and i was having more and more trouble reading close ups. >> reporter: the 65-year old had cataract, a clouding of the lens of the eye. his doctor recommended removing his old lens and replacing it with the symphony. this lens can improve vision at far distances and points in between. >> a brand new category of lens vision and reduces their vision and eliminates their dependence upon glasses. >> reporter: dr. field conducted the trials. >> giving them more vision makes them more comfortable and improves self-confidence.

morning hours. we're on the dry side and a few clouds here and there. fairly lovely and should be really nice. if you can enjoy a little bit of it -- maybe the kids need a jacket at the bus stop. starting to get rain in parts of the foothills and we'll see that skirt into the denver area and evening hours. we start to get storms here in denver. nothing severe for us but maybe a few heavier showers. overnight tonight there's rain and tomorrow morning showers to the south and a rain from the western slope through the high country and denver as we head into the mid afternoon hours. temperatures today will feel so nice. 76 degrees and 76 in greeley and boulder and fort collins. low 80s on the eastern plains today but in the upper 70s. plenty of 60s.

denver. the hostel at 16th and washington has serious fire code violations. at least two young men say they're getting treated unfairly. >> i'm not transitional. i'm fully employed and go to school and i had a roof over my head. >> basically i was trans ported from paying rent to being treated as a trance yent or a homeless person. >> that's a big issue here. we need housing. the salvation army is trying to help find the people homes forced there were 86 displaced without warning there. time to make plans to volunteer for xcel energy's day of service. it's a great way to help the community. they provide food to food banks. you can see the folks in the blue shirts from last year's day of service.

>>reporter: you have to open a bank account and you want to choose one that offers free checking and savings accounts to avoid fees. shop around though. it's important to find an institution with convenient atm's around campus. your kids aren't going to walk away from campus to find the cheapest one. explain to the kids about balancing their account. this is so much easier with online banking. remind your kids that both occasionally so you'll see she unanimous begans going on. if your college student is working they want to help pay the bills. encourage them to save 10% of hearnings that go directly into the bank account. >> it's been a minute since i've been in college but i remember the credit card companies beckoning students to open accounts. should parents advocate using

reform in the credit card industry and they can't lure the kids into get their own cards but let's talk about this. debit cards are definitely helpful in the budgeting process but they don't help build a credit history. they can also be a little bit tougher in the event of identity theft or data breach. we know credit cards can lead to reckless spending and when you cosign you mary your credit late payments can ding their records and may affect their chances of getting a job or renting their own apartment. to compromise how about a secure credit card? these cards limit liability but also establish a credit history. a secured card requires a cash collateral deposit that becomes the credit line for the account. you put $500 in the account and you can charge up to $500.

extend your credit or maybe the bank will reward you. let's get the conversation going and talk to your kids about this. this is a nice transition period to help these kids become financially smart and independent. >> i have a question. the you go over that particular credit card, does the student get fined or have to pay a fee? >> no, they literally can't charge it. it will ding them in that moment. if there's a fixed amount like a gift enough money to make the charge so that's what's good about it. it won't allow you to go over the limit. >> that's a short, sharp shock where was that when i needed it? >> great to see you, thanks a lot. here's lauren and it's cooler. it is definitely cooler across the country. big storms moving through parts of kansas and missouri so severe weather possible in those areas.

quake. the very latest coming up. . it's been 200 days since super bowl 50 which means we have been wondering who is the starting quarterback this season. we know trevor siemian is starting saturday but that doesn't mean he will start against the panthers. if i had to put money on it that would be the safe bet. all three quarterbacks got a shot yesterday during practice and while trevor siemian thinks don't count out sanchez because he played poorly against the 49ers. >> i think it's a good environment for us and it's competitive and i think we're doing a good job pushing each other. >> it wasn't like that's it and throw in the towel. that's never been my attitude. i don't quit. and i'll take this thing down the wire if that's what it takes. >> trevor has been with these
