people by phone. >> that is truly a glimmer of hope there. a colorado sheriff is accused of taking a female inmate from his jail to his home. he appeared yesterday and according to the arrests he alleged took a woman from the county jail to his home in jewelsburg and exchange for sexual acts. >> there's all kinds of people who you think are respectable and above the law and would never go anything egregious to anything but low and behold, they're the 11:00 news at night. >> he trans ported her to the

his home. all aboard. amtrak and wasn'ter park are making a big announcement. -- -- -- winter park. >> reporter: we were talking to an employee of the crawford hotel and he said he remembers when he used to ride it as a kid and excited it's back. it will drop you off slope side at winter park. amtrak and winter park expect to release more details this morning. they didn't wt much but we know it's called the amtrak winter park express. this is the second revival of full service for the train and like the old ski train, it's going to stop at the base of the ski resort. regular service went from 1940 to 2009. it was brought back for just a few weekend trips in march of 2015. we were there last season when amtrak made a ski run up the hill. 400 tickets sold out in a matter

ended after financial issues with iowa pacific. so unlike the limited service it brought back last year, we have good news. we know it's running january through march so plenty of opportunities to check it out. more details are expected to be released around 11:00 this morning. live from union station, jamie leary, cbs4 news. temperatures are so muc the front that came through yesterday. 16 degrees cooler in boulder and 18 for fort collins and 20 in greeley and limon so it's noticeably cooler outside. 52 in burlington. 46 in avon and 59 in grand junction. weather watcher reporting 44 degrees in northern colorado. she says it's brisk out there. that's what i see on twitter and

latest traffic and cbs4 weather together. this is the news on cbs4 this morning. a colorado high school football player may have to sit out when the season starts next week. he had to transfer to a different school after his family fell on hard times and could no longer afford his private school tuition but the transfer rules under the state's high school activity association are preventing him from hitting the field right away. >> reporter: the jenkins family has been through a lot in the the parents were in the back of a taxi when they got in an accident. they didn't have health insurance so the bills piled up. in the eyes of the state high school activities association those are not hardships. >> since moving their son eric from private school in parker to eagle crest high in aurora last year, the jenkins tried to file a hardship waiver with the colorado high school activities

2's and medical forms but that does not meet the criteria which requires the situation to be unforeseen, unavoidable, and uncorrectable. despite telling the family that, she says they can't comment on this case because it's still an active appeal. the jenkins do still have appeals left. eric jenkins told us he's holding out hope he will not have to sit the five games. eagle crest first game i thursday. in aurora, jeff todd cbs4 news. a deprave rio honor awarded six months after the deadly attack on sheriff's deputies who were serving an eviction notice. corporal nate carrigan was killed in the shooting. he was honored with a purple heart. >> i award this purple heart to your family for the heroic efforts during a tremendous fire

hancock were both shot several times and both of them were honored with purple hearts. first responders received the service award for their actions helping the wounded deputies that day. we are now 75 days away from the presidential election. this morning hillary clinton is on the defensive after days of attacks and accusations from donald trump over her foundation and time as secretary of state and her relationship minority voters. brian webb has the latest. >> hillary clinton is a big got, who says people of color only as votes, not human beings. >> reporter: he turned up the attacks on his rival insisting he's the candidate that will improve the life of minorities. hillary clinton called in last night to respond to trump's name calling. >> donald trump has shown us who

and 37 in alamosa. there's a nice brisk morning out at pikes peak. you can see the snow left over from the past couple of days. just a dusting in most spots but it's a gorgeous view from the southwest. let's look at the satellite and radar where we're mellow and quiet. rain in the south eastern corner and seeing more rain today. the early part of the day is really going to be wonderful. mostly sunny skies and a few ashd lunchtime a few showers starting to pop up in the high country. here in denver after 3:00 or 4:00, a chance for afternoon storms and rain showers to roll on through and could see some rain overnight and tomorrow morning. probably some clouds to start the day tomorrow and a chance for more rain coming in off and on tomorrow and most of it will

"glider bob". no word yet on what caused the aircraft to go down. the u.s. women's soccer goalie hope solo has been suspended for what they say is unacceptable conduct when she cow words". she was suspended for 30 days last year for misconduct in the past. a man who spent a quarter of a century for a crime he didn't commit gets a big pay out. he is being paid $3.5 million. grimes was exonerated of rape four years ago after determining the fingerprints linked to the case were not his.

>> the odds unfortunately are getting longer in the frantic search for survivors in central italy. this drone video shows you the damage close to the quake's epi center. . tina crass has the latest from amatrice. >> reporter: rescue teams in italy worked through the night and into daybreak using heavy equipment trying buried alive under mounds of debris. armor tanks are joining the effort in hard hit towns. crews carefully pulled a girl name julia to safety. she had been trapped for 17 hours. the scene did little to comfort this firefighter. julia is being taken to the hospital and that's good news he says. as far as the rest is concerned, the images speak for themselves. >> the powerful quake hit

here in amatrice, a town packed with tourists this time of year. >> several guests of the damaged hotel in the town lost their lives when the quake hit including an 11-year old boy who was first found alive in the rubble. amatrice was set to hold an annual food festival this weekend. thousands left homeless have set up camp in ternt cities around the devastation wondering how they will rebuild from here. tia krauss, cbs news amatrice. the earthquake in italy had a 6.2 magnitude and the one in myanmar was 6.8 but it wasn't as bad because it far deeper underground. now they have maps that show shaking. >> the different lines are the intensity of shaking.

that means the intenty of severe shaking that would have been felt -- -- intensity. >> the earthquake in italy was an eight out of ten in terps of shaking. ten is considered extreme. the one in myanmar was considered a six. snow is dusting the high country this morning and we're in the 40s here in denver. fall is coming and so the ski train chugging its way back to town. jamie leary is live the question is, when can people climb aboard? >> yes, it's happening again. winter park and amtrak expected to announce more details this morning. it will pick you up here from union station and drop you off at the base of the mountain. we were there last march for the limited service operation. the 400 tickets they sold out within minutes but this is the first second full service ski

gotten up there. skies are clear now. isn't that stunning? beautiful up there right now. taking a look at satellite and radar, skies are clear. rain in the south eastern corner but that's it. early afternoon hours we will see more rain in parts of the high country and more clouds to the west and that rain will get more widespread into the evening hours. here in denver we feel the possibility of rain and a quick thunderstorm this evening coming in likely after 3:00. rain down into our south westero the high country overnight tonight and tomorrow morning. expect spotty showers around the state and tomorrow afternoon and evening, a couple showers ear in denver with heavy rainfall to the west. temperatures are nice outside. i this you the 70s are nice. a lot of people want the heat to come back. 76 in denver and greeley and 79 in re. lots of upper 70s in the mountains and plenty of 60s.

we're taking a look at a neighbor in the area where the tornado touched down. businesses were damaged and homes were levelled in some places and now we understand that there were thousands of people without power last night. 39,000 in one area and 25,000 without power in another area and also a couple of twisters apparently touched down in ohio as well. that area completely devastated this morning. right now this denver bank robber is on the run. he's aen this summer alone. the latest robbery happened tuesday. police have tried tracking down the suspect all summer long. >> reporter: for the fifth time this summer police say 39-year old shawn scott has robbed a denver bank. this time tuesday morning at the tcf bank on the corner of broadway and evans avenue. investigators say scott showed a note demanding money then fled eastbound on foot.

scott keeps repeating despite having already been caught on camera at another south broadway bank on spear boulevard and at the u.s. bank on 38th and julian. he's used a bike in past robberies to ride up and get away fast. people who work in businesses along broadway tell cbs4 that tcf bank has been robbed twice before. >> we are by the bus stop so i think he could make a at 11:00 at night and jump on the bus and disappear. we don't know what people are thinking. >> police say scott is about six feet tall with a thinner build and weighs around 150 pounds. surveillance video may be a key in tracking down burglars in arapahoe county. burglars were caught walking into the lobby here before they

the victim confronted the burglars before they got away. this happened late last month. a man possibly in his 20s. the woman is 5'2" and they figure she weighs between 150 and 180 pounds. a different kind of eviction. officers dealed with a very large unwanted house guest. a 300-pound bear had been under the homeowner's deck for days. police helped parks and wildlife officers tranquilize and relocate the bear. the ugly allegations against a small county sheriff and what he's accused of doing to an at-risk inmate. i'll break down what to look for when it comes to the quarterback situation and the mighty defense. i've never been to milwaukee but i've heard it's lovely this time of year.

a colorado rockies jersey. the rockies need to get out of town judging by the way they have been playing. they hope to avoid the sweep yesterday. a solo shot in the first gave the rockies a one nothing lead. that was the extent. in the 7th it fell apart. the two run shot put the brewers up 5-1 then later in the inning chris carter getting in on the action. brewers go u gave up four runs in the frame and they get swept 7-1. colorado has the day off today. they start a pregame series in washington tomorrow.

continue the investigation of a pedestrian accident. southbound running heavy northbound making your way out to i-75 in that westbound direction. both directions of i-270 and taking a look at drive times from the north, speeds dipping down into the 40s. especially slow in the eastbound direction of i-270 with speeds into the 30s and westbound in the 30s. breaking overnight. mylan is in t spiking the cost of the epipen. it now says it will initiate a savings program to cover up to $300 of out of pocket costs for an epipen two pack. it's also doubling eligibility for its patient assistance program which gets rid of out of pocket costs for underinsured patients. mylan has hiked the prices three times a year over the past nine

logan county jail. the coroner is filling in as sheriff now. the alleged driver who killed a pedestrian in aurora is under arrest now. he is in the arapahoe county jail. the charge is vehicular homicide. police say he sped through a red light and lost control of his suv monday at chambers and eye lift. he hit two people and hurt a passenger in hiseh the pedestrian is 22 year old dalton mc kreery and the 18 year old passenger survived. a chill out there this morning. there's a hint of ski season in the air now and this morning amtrak and winter park are making a big announcement jamie leary is live at union station now. >> reporter: they're keeping us
