hi, everybody. good to have you with us. this is the news on the cbs4 news. i'm alan gionet. let's get the weather story. daven aguilera in this morning. this cool weather, what happens here. >> we have a cool day and rain this mng if you were up this early, we got a ban of showers going the city on the north side of city. that's thornton and longmont. you can see it moving through the area. most of this will be moving through, but very moist and cloudy to start off this morning. temperature wise, we're 53 in morrison. 57 in city park. 55 in centennial this morning.

gary lyncher, our weather watcher has 37 degrees. in denver, 57. by noon, 78. a high of 76 and showers and storms later this afternoon. weekend forecast looks warmer. we'll talk about that through the morning. let's check traffic at 4:31. here's joel hillan. good morning. >> good morning. we have cones up some where. this is i-25 and arapahoe. we have the ramp from westbound arapahoe road to northbound i-25 that's closed denver-metro area, an accident at i-225 near iliff. that's our highway accident and there's something on the road along i-225 north of santa fe passed 6th avenue and overnight construction, alan. c-470 both directions: we're learning about a man -- we're learning about a man shot by police. it started after 7:00. officers were

college avenue near elizabeth street because of a domestic disturbance we're told involving a weapon. a woman said someone she knew was harassing -- they saw a man breaking into the woman's home. they tased the man but said he kept coming and that's when they fired and the man died at the hospital. the larimer sheriff's office is taking over the investigation this morning. there's a reporter in r latest details. the numbers of those dead keeps rising. at least 267 people have lost their lives. and we've learned about some of the dangers facing search and rescue crews. here's jonathan with the latest from italy. >>reporter: less crew teams pressed on for a third day trying to find those trapped

video shows the destruction. homes without roofs. others barely left standing. this woman was moved to tears as she waited for news of her missing parents after hours of searching. rescue teams finally pulled their bodies from the rubble of their home. francesca was left in shock after seeing damage to his house yesterday having already lost friends. he has no house to go to. >> powerful after shocks left towns here unstable and that's created chaos for rescuers trying to get to the scene. yesterday, a strong 4.3 trimmer in amatrice stirred up free. the prime minister brushed off criticism the country could have done more to make buildings quake proof. instead he announced a multi-million effort to rebuild.

brian maass wrote that story. that lawsuit was filed on behalf of former football player grant kneel. kneel is suing after being kicked out of the school after being accused of, but not convicted of sexual assault. he said he had to express himself after hearing about the case, but he's facing felony charges about what he tweeted out. there's a warning for those to watch all state insurance installed that for their once is never enough -- it's one of the most dangerous intersections. >> there's three motorcyclist a day killed nationwide. we're trying to take that down to zero. >> the last few motorcycle deaths hit a high in colorado. 104 motorcycle died on our roads. we learned today if we could

this morning and thunderstorms this afternoon. there is a high out here in california that she move in by the weekend that will boost our temperatures up a little bit for saturday and sunday. but for today, cloudy with a few sprinkles and a break mid-day and more showers and thunderstorms mid-day. we're not looking for anything severe, but we may get more rain later today. >> all right. high temperatures today. we're looking at cool stuff out west. 80s and 70s western slope. 60s in the mountains and 70s and 80s across the stern plains. so we keep this comfortable trend as far as the temperatures go through the end of the week. 76 today. showers and storms today. great sleeping weather. 52 tonight. there's the warmup for the weekend. 83 on saturday and 86 on sunday and a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms. and on tuesday, the 80s roll on. you can really tell we're reaching the end of august.
