and thunderstorms this afternoon. a little better channel thanes yesterday believe it or not. 76 for the high. another comfortable day. we'll warmup over the weekend. right now it's traffic time with joel hillan. 6:00 in the morning. hopefully you'll get everybody to work on time. >> that's the hope everyday, isn't it. take a look at the drive. it is loaded up across the denver-metro area. there's a couple of trouble spots. a lot of a-line running on 10 to 15-minute delays. they expect the delays to take place over the next 2 hours. >> still kinks in the a-line. the larimer county sheriff's office is taking over the investigation of a shooting of a man in fort collins last night. this happened in the mist of a domestic call. jaime leary live where this happened along college avenue near shields where she is this morning, jaime. >>reporter: yeah, alan. this is

band bridge. this is the driveway in front of this trailer where this incident happened. police cleared this scene, but they're investigating. they tried to subdue the suspect without the use of a hand gun, but he was armed and uncooperative. it was after 7:00 when a woman called claiming he was bothering her along with several other people. when officers arrived to her home, the suspect came back. the woman's home. he was brandishing a hand gun and advancing towards them and that's when officers tasered him. he continued to walk towards them, so they had to make the decision to shoot the man. no officers were injured. the victim is okay at this point in time as well. the man was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. larimer sheriff's office taking

problems for searchers in italy. 267 people were known dead after the earthquake. several hundreds more hurt. close to 1,000 after shocks like this one hit buildings unstable and coming down. italy prime minister says people have been rescued, but none found alive. the government is playing a day of mourning tomorrow. drone after that country's earthquake that hit the same day as italy got hit. this is a historic building. several people found dead in myanmar. ancient temples dating back to the tenth centuries and 800 bricks are damaged. 11 police officers are dead and 78 others hurt after an explosion in turkey. the state

going. here's the future cast. we'll have sunshine mid-day and isolated storms popping this afternoon. temperature wise, we're looking at 66 in estes park. it should be 76 in brier. denver should be a nice comfortable 76 for the high temperature today. we'll heat up tomorrow and probably see 80s return to the forecast. i'll have the specifics for you coming up in a little bit. joel. we've been -- we're looking at the drive from copter 4. this is 20th there's an accident that shut down federal. you can see the heavy police presence. that's going to increase over the side street activity we have across the denver-metro area and this is 20th and federal in the southbound direction. let me show you drive times from the west. eastbound along i-70, eastbound along 6th avenue, there's speeds in the 60s and slowing with speeds into the 30s from santa fe to i-25 eastbound

we're across the denver-metro area, so there's two trouble spots where copter 4 was at 20th. we have ramp restrictions in place. southbound along i-225 towards iliff due to a rollover and northbound along i-225 north of colfax, there was an earlier accident, so you're seeing delays at colfax. you can turn on koa 850 am and 94.1 fm for we have a kidnap suspect to tell you about. we have a description of a man who tried to kidnap a girl on monday night in the 1000-block of -- the girl says a man touched her shoulder and said come with me while she was in her driveway. she ran into the house and she told her parents she's okay. the man though is described as white with tan skin about 6 feet tall, thin to medium build and tattoos

the left arm is of a skull. he was wearing a green baseball cap with red shirt and torn blue jeans and he was driving a bright red four-door sedan. an update on a couple -- police arrested joshua robertson and brittany humphrey in pub blow yesterday. all the children are safe police say. they were found witness at a motel in new mexico in the of someone called a good samaritan. investigators are questioning robertson and humphrey of the death of the kidnapped children's mother. she was found shot to death earlier this month in california. the victim is humphrey's system. new developments in a cold case we've been following for more than 30 years. this is a computer image of police say a man killed a husband, wife and their 7-year old daughter in

moisture for afternoon showers and thunderstorms going on today. on the big picture, cool air east of the rockies, but there's moisture -- that's going to provide us with the showers this afternoon and morning. high pressure in california. it will move in over the course of the weekend. our temperatures will get back into the 80s. as we go through the day, the showers moving out east. we'll have sunshine by the mid-day. and then a of the afternoon. it doesn't look like anything severe, but you might get a little shower later on today. temperature wise, lots of 70s and 60s. 76 degrees with showers and thunderstorms redeveloping this afternoon. 52 is the low tonight. there's your 80s for the weekend. 83 tomorrow and a slight chance of a late day storm and same thing on monday with 86. 86 on monday and

light chance storm. mild manner summer is what i would call it, joel. >> i like it. i-270 and york, both directions through commerce city loading up. looking at the drive southbound coming into town, that's 9 minutes and 6 minutes either direction along i-270. 7 minutes along i-76 from brighton to denver. we're across the denver-metro area and there's lane closures of federal at 20th. watch out for that. also ramp restrictions in place as you go from soubo to get onto iliff and a new accident on i-270. >> thanks, joel. apple is fixing an iphone security issue and why some are ditching a bar of soap for the liquid kind. jill wagner is live from the floor of the new york exchange. >>reporter: the markets are -- yesterday the dow fell 33 points and the nasdaq dropped 5. few

but flat. apple has a fix for a serious security -- the hack is the first known case of software that can take over an iphone 6 and it's capable of turning on the phones camera and microphone. a texas juried that the faulty ignition switch was not to blame for an accident in 2011. they told jurors the accident was caused and not the ignition switch. this was their third win. can soap be dirty? a report from the research firm found that more consumers can ditching bars of soap for body washes because they think bar soaps are covered in germs. another reason, consumers feel body washes were more convenient. also noted 66% of americans prefer showers overtaking baths.

thanks for that. >> i don't know the bath people. >> yeah, okay. here's today's top stories. a serious incident in mississippi, two nuns stabbed in their homes. margaret held and her sister paula merrill were both nurse practitioners and they were found in durant mississippi outside of jackson. here are the two right here. they didn't report for work at a nearby clinic where they put in their t a break-in and the nuns cars were gone and that was found damaged and a mile from the home. no arrest in this case. a copilot in michigan was removed by police after they say he was drunk. a flight was scheduled for take off from traverse city when the pilot noticed his copilot wasn't acting normally so the pilot called police. the police gave the copilot a breath test and he

no passengers were board. the charter plane company fired the copilot. and 34 year old marcus ware and 23 year old shane faced off after a race at the broncos practice yesterday. wild receiver sanders snap chatted the thing. it was a photo finish. let's see if we have it. we have the younger ray winning by a hair. both players claimed victory after the race as you would expect. getting ready for their pre-season game at home tomorrow when they face the rams. last year's winner of the rock and roll half marathon was happy enough to meet with britt moreno and lauren more fit while training -- aaron says he was running a five minute mile. his time was 1 hour and 57 minutes >> you were in front the entire time or you came from the back and win it.

there's probably five or six the first few miles and then about halfway through, it's just me and another guy who runs at colorado schools ever mines and then finally i was able to pull away from him the last 5k. >> yeah, he was hauling. you can sign up for that race and track the team who is training for the half time marathon by going to -- 53 degrees, but it's going to warmup. >> it's going to warmup today. around here today. in the meantime, don, our weather watcher in dawns town is at 54 degrees.

>>reporter: rescue teams pressed on for a third day trying to find people trapped under the rubble. drone footage taken above the hard hit town of amatrice shows the destruction and homes without roofs and others barely left standing. this woman was moved to tears as she waited for news of her missing parents. after hours of searching, rescue teams pulled their bodies from the rubble of their home. francesco to his home yesterday. having lost many friends, he has no home to return to. >> there isn't a house. i don't have a house here. >> hundreds of powerful after shocks have left towns here even more unstable and that's created chaos for rescuers trying to get to the scene. yesterday, a strong 4.3 trimmer in amatrice

rain and cloudy skies over western colorado. another wave of moisture around aspen. as we go through the morning, we'll have bits of sunshine mixed with clouds and this afternoon, a few showers and thunderstorms as well. high pressure in california. that will make its way in our direction by the weekend, but ahead of it, a little shot of moisture coming for rain. that's in the future cast forecast. a little clearing today and then isolated storms by this afternoon. some of them could get heavy along the kansas line late in the day. the cool stuff is here 70s and 80s across the east with 60s and 70 the high country. showers and storms this afternoon. low to mid-80s this afternoon and a slight chance of a late day thunderstorm so the weekend is looking nice. >> i like that. we have live pictures from copter 4 of a traffic alert northbound along santa fe fasted evans. there's a car on its lid. you can see the fire truck

look at it load up with speeds into the 40s. and speeds -- >> joel, thank you very much. new this morning, a man wearing boxer shorts -- three people onboard are hurt. that plane carrying 113 passengers were headed to denver from the airfield there in nebraska. people were boarding when the man slammed the truck into the plane. authorities say he was trying to kill him. the man is in custody. the plane's nose gear tires were flattened and another plane took the passengers to denver this morning. firefighters are cleaning up after a small fire in mayor ra po is a. the fire is out. crews are ventilating the building. we believe it happened at a construction building that housing a special

caused that fire. a mother is dead after she saved her child. san juan authorities said it happened tuesday afternoon near halls crossing. 33-year old shelby russell dove in to save her toddler and the boat kept moving away. a family member was able to use a small boat to reach them, but found russell unconscious with her child on her chest. neither was wearing a life jacket. coming pueblo arrest a couple wanted for the murder and kidnapping of her children. did they take it on -- they have got to take the price down. >> there's problems with the epi pen and the discount as the company still takes a lot of heat for jacking up the cost of those potentially life saving devices. the colorado avalanche hired who yesterday?

centennial -- 68 by noon. a high today, a nice comfortable 76 degrees. and we'll have a few more shower and thunderstorms later this afternoon. again, popping up. warm weekend on the way . i'll have plenty of 80s to show you coming up in a little bit. right now let's see how your morning drive is going. joel hillan is watching that. >> dave, we have a traffic alert we follow. this is northbound along santa fe on the approach to florida. it's off to the the fire trucks pulled away, so the center lane is still closed off. but you can see the left lane and that hov lane remain open. again, you have to be an hov vehicle to travel in the hov vehicle even if there's an accident. we saw firefighters a moment ago working underneath that car. they have gone away from that. the investigation does continue. it's not just 1 car involved.

shot, sunset over mount silver hills. michael bowers sent that in. look at timberline. we have snow showing up with a serge of moisture coming through. overnight, sprinkles rain hit the denver-metro area, so you probably get a little water on your lawn out there. not enough to kill the drought or anything like that, but it's nice to see moisture. and we have a little rain going on, weld county, and morgan county. the big picture, there's high pressure out in california. weekend, but ahead of it, we have a good swath of moisture coming in. that shows up on the future cast. we dry out a little bit this afternoon as the moisture moves out. there comes the isolated storms and there's a chance one or two could be severe in north eastern colorado and down in south eastern part of the state. high temperatures in denver, 76 degrees with showers and storms this afternoon. and then joel this weekend looks nice. 80s return

storms each day. >> perfect timing for that looking at live pictures from copter 4. there was an accident at peoria. it's not causing as many delays. there's a lot of volume. i want to take you to copter 4. this is video from a few minutes ago. a rollover accident in the northbound direction of santa fe after evans on the approach to florida. you can see the car on its lid. it has the center lane and right lane blocked. here's both directions through commerce city, westbound along i-76, taking a look from the cbs had mouse trap, you have slowing along i-70. across the denver-metro area, a couple of restrictions, southbound federal, that's at 20th. there's lane restrictions and we have ramp restrictions as you make your way southbound along i-225 on the ramp to iliff and then take a look. this is from the west, good drive times and slow as you get through englewood.
