day. . good morning. it's sunday, august 28th. this is the news on cbs 4. three cars and a motorcycle crash in parker. how many were hurt, and what rescue crews had to do on scene last night. an update on the officer involved shooting in denver's baker neighborhood. what led police to shoot the suspect as they tried one of the broncos quarterbacks is expected to be named official starter after the team beat the la rams at mile high. . good morning. i'm joel hill. we'll have more on those stories in a moment. first a check on the weather with dave in colorado's weather center. turned out to be a nice day yesterday. >> gorgeous, mid 80s. probably mid 80s again today.

setting up. take a look at doppler 4000 with the satellite. cloudy skies all night. now seeing light rain showers starting to pop up over park county, jefferson, colorado springs. could have a sprinkle of rain going through bright and early this morning. 68 englewood. 62 brighton. our weather watcher west of ray, eastern colorado, is coming in at 56. thanks nancie rockwell sending that in. here's the break down today. we're looking at 70 at 9:00 a.m. should have a passing shower going by with the clouds. partly cloudy at noon, afternoon high 85 degrees. showers and thunderstorms this afternoon as well. a 20% chance of that. a little better chance of actually getting bona identified rain out of those showers today than yesterday. in the week ahead, a little of a cool down to look forward to as

bit. look forward to it. thank you. a developing story in parker. three cars and a motorcycle crash injuring seven people. it happened at park her road and jay morgan boulevard. crews freed the victims trapped in the vehicles. extent of the injuries is unknown as well as what caused the crash. an update on the shooting we first reported to you yesterday morning the sheriff office says the teen suspect called investigators and turned himself in. he was taken into custody assault charges. a man has died after being shot by police. it happened at corner house around 3:00 saturday morning. police say they were trying to arrest the wanted man. he was armed with a knife and came towards the officers after refusing to drop his weapon. at the time officer tried totalis the man. when that didn't work, they shot the suspect. one neighbor says it's usually a quiet community. >> something you wouldn't expect

it's shock to the neighborhood and community. >> this is the first time police have been at that home. they won't say what's going on inside. identity of the man has not been released. a man is in custody after a woman says she was attacked on the high line trail. andrea flores tells us about the woman that saw the man and tipped off police. >> they're afraid to walk the trail r. >> >> neighbors on edge. i woman walking on the trail was attacked by a man friday afternoon. a neighbor, who did not want to be identified, tells he came across the victim seconds after the attack. >> i was walking the trail and ran into her down at the bridge. she was in tears. >> the victim was able to snap this picture as the suspect was walk ago way. he's described in his 20s,

locks and a beard. the good samaritan ran into a man standing on this bridge saturday afternoon and called police. >> he wasn't friendly, wasn't happy. >> denver police took the 25-year-old into custody as a person of interest. rhodes worries book hart may be living in this neighborhood. >> if i've seen him in this neighborhood, i've lived here 16 years i've seen him over the summer skateboarding up and down the streets >> residents say this second attack in recent weeks. >> this is a perfectly safe trail. nobody had to worry before. twice in ten days random assaults of women is pretty bad news. >> andrea flores reporting. police are trying to figure out if the man in custody is connected to other incidents on that trail. latest on the man in omaha that took off his clothes and crashed his truck into the denver bound plane.

criminal mischief and trespassing. his son has an addiction and mental health issues. the crash cost $1 million in damages. fogging trucks are going to start at 8:00 until 2:00 in the morning. if you live in that area, you're asked to stay indoors. good idea to close the windows and bring the of west nile by emptying standing water on your property. mark sanchez sat out the entire game last night. semian is the likely man under center. >> broncos with the win over the rams saturday night at mile high stadium.

. welcome back on sunday morning. a beautiful shot of downtown denver from our cbs cam. you can see those clouds. we're going to ask dave about those coming up. will those spoil your sunday plans? first, news in our health watch report. kids that use standing desks in the classroom are more likely to be at a healthy weight compared to those at traditional desks. texas researchers followed 200 third and fourth graders.

index. those kids sitting recorded a 2% increase in their body mass index. teens who's parents encourage them to be healthy shows they're healthier. brazil a study on mice which had been fed fatty food for a month. those that consumed fish oil weighed less and were less likely to develop diabetes. certain instagram filters may give you a more accurate look into your life than you let on. andy rose has more. >> filters are meant to add more color and intensity to your life.

the opposite. researchers from harvard and university of vermont found that instagram photos can be analyzed to screen users for depressions. filters and straights like brightness and color identify those that suffer from the illness better than a typical physician. very lucrative, but michael at university of pennsylvania says companies would hopefully only use them to assist patients and not target depressed people to make a buck the user could ask for feedback by having consent to having photos scanned. the analyzer would look at the profile by looking at hue,

sunrise. >> no kidding. take a look. this is a view from mouse trap camera popping up. there may be a sprinkle this morning. can you believe the last sunday in august already? man, where has the month gone? doppler 4000. see the clouds move up from colorado springs. those are the sprinkles i'm talking about. not going to be a big deal. might see a drop or two. temperatures are not bad. 62 high 60 on the button out from in aurora. here's the break down. should be 70 at 9:00 a.m. with the passing shower possible. by noon, 80 degrees, partly cloudy. 85 the high today with showers and thunderstorms developing this afternoon. chance today and yesterday. 20% chance. the 85 degrees mark joel is about average for this time of year. pretty normal day for us on the way. happy to see that chance of moisture. >> we need more rain.

where it's light rain all day long. we'll check it out and see if there's any coming up. an update on saturday's amber alert in colorado springs, police were able to find the suspect and take him into custody. authorities say he took his 3-month-old son after getting in a fight with the child's mother. he threatened to kill both. the baby was unharmed. friends and family remember a man kilted in a street crash. john was an innocent driver who's car was t boned last week. howard nathan talked to the woman who was intended to be his wife. >> this gathering in the denver park was part memorial for john jefferson. rosie, his future wife, said he planned to propose to her this weekend. >> i sobbed and sobbed. i've been robbed of him and our life together. >> this gathering was a reminder

>> i look around here. look at all victims. we didn't have just one victim in this. we had multiple victims. >> jefferson, a father and stepfather of seven, was killed last weekend after the state patrol says his silver hyundai was slam into by a chevy and push into a pole in adams county. the state patrol says the other car was speeding. >> we need to stop senseless deaths from reckless driving. people need to they're doing on the road. >> he approached love your family and tell them. you never know. >> the initial report was that the accident was result of a high speed incident and possibly street racing between two cars, a chevy and another car missing from the scene. >> i want them to be prosecuted to the fullest so that they understand this is not okay to go around. it's vehicular homicide.

control. hillary clinton met with national intelligence employees saturday to get her first briefing on security threats facing the u.s. donald trump got a similar briefing earlier this month. he spent the day campaigning in iowa. wendy gentlemen let -- wendy has the latest on the investigation. hillary clinton received her first national security briefing. the nominee attended the more than two hour briefing by herself with no aids present. she got an overview from threats facing the country. it was her only scheduled event of the day. republican presidential nominee donald trump spoke at a fund-raiser in iowa a state where polling shows the candidates are tied. it's a bright spot for him.

. take a look at our center cam. look at clouds that made for a beautiful sunrise. we'll check in with dave to see if it will be a wet afternoon. seven people hurt after a three car and motorcycle crash in parker. it happened before 7:00 morgan boulevard. we don't know what caused that crash. crews had to free several victims trapped in the vehicle. a woman has been rescued and two men remain missing. police say officers spontaneoused last night to a report the aircraft carrying three people crashed into the lake near new orleans lake front

looking for those missing. italy's museums are dote donating proceeds to relief and reconstruction efforts in the area devastated by wednesday's earthquake. it killed 290 people. hundreds were hurt after that earthquake. the idea to donate proceeds is to use art for art and help recover and restore what was destroyed in medieval towns in central italy. now dave,n towns, there's history. that's now in rubble. >> yeah. that's a shame. with all the great buildings and everything. around here, little bit of cloud cover coming through. as you look at this picture, not completely socked in can with -- with clouds this morning. might get a sprinkle or rain going on. temperatures 52 this morning.

if you look at the map, there's only one 30 degrees reading down there. little cool this morning there. cloud cover is extending across eastern colorado. now starting to see a few echoes from colorado springs up to the south side of denver as far as the radar goes. could get a sprinkle of rain this morning. more moisture out in grand junction. this is shooting off a low pressure area, testimony coming out of arizona. see monsoon moisture and flowing back to colorado here. at the same time, we have high pressure embedded in this area. that's bringing in heat. we'll have a warm day despite clouds this morning. initially showers and thunderstorms will start to fire up today in the high country. after about 3:00 or so, we'll start to get a chance of storms building over the palmer divide and moving up to denver metro

thunderstorms and showers on into the evening tonight. that's the map at 10:00 this evening. we have the chance of rain this evening. highs today in the 80s to near 09 here in the east -- near 90 here in the east. for denver, how about 85 degrees. ices lated storm this is afternoon. better chance of rain than wed. we bring it back to near 80 monday, tuesday, wednesday. isolated storms each day. back to 84 interesting last week when we had the front come through higher mountains got a little snow up there. don't think we'll have too much of that coming up with moisture today. up above timber line, may get a rain snow mix if you're way up high. >> if you're silting there waxing your skis imagining ail better day. there's hope for you. >> true. national dog day was friday.

? ? over a million ears of corn are picked a day here in olathe, colorado. and i'm glad we have a senator who uses his ears to listen to what's most important to colorado farmers. michael bennet asked what he could do to help, and then worked with republicans to make a farm bill that's making a difference to all farmers in colorado. the thing that impresses me most about michael bennet: we don't always agree, but he values our input. and i do trust michael bennet to look out for us.
