is an investigation into a deadly dog attack in jefferson county. why did two pitbulls kill a woman they knew well? the animals were euthanized in the past half hour. >> thanks for being with us tonight. melisa garcia is live in the foothills anima where the animals were taken. you have new developments >> reporter: we do. the dogs just here within the last hour have been put down at this facility. authorities say richard shaw was issued a warning citation back in 2008 after a neighbor reported that those dogs had gotten loose and were acting aggressively. and authorities also say that he agreed to have them put down here at this facility after they

couldn't hardly believe that >> reporter: bonnie bogart was shocked to learn that her next door neighbor had been killed by the dogs in her own home. >> this is a dog mauling two, pitbulls >> reporter: jefferson county deputies responded to the home in conifer around 7:00 pm monday after a friend got call of a gruesome attack. >> we got a nine one one call from a male saying he needed help, screaming in the background >> reporter: the caller in his 30s alerted them the family's two pitt bulls w his home. >> she's gonna be in the hallway, she's barely conscious >> reporter: deputies arrived to find the two dogs on the loose in the home and the woman critically injured. she died at the scene. her son was taken to swedish where the staff treated and released him for nonlife-threatening injuries. >> i feel really bad for rich junior. i hope he's gonna be okay. >> reporter: neighbors say the dogs spent much of their time

they were never running loose. >> okay. never any issues that you knew of? >> i never had any issues with the dogs. they bark a lot. >> reporter: animal control took them from the scene to an insert golden where they're court ordered under quarantine. >> reporter: it's unclear if richard shawl will be facing any charges. that investigation is ongoing. family friends told us the woman who was last month. so for this family, clearly a tragedy all the way around. >> adams county had 67. denver 62 pitbull bites. even though pit bulls are banned in denver, 575 have been impounded since

multiple government buildings in colorado and across the country. the e-mails threatened violence and were sent to workers at the usda, u.s. forest service, and is natural resource conservation service. the threat spanned across five states. the offices will be closed until further notice. a united airlines employee is under arrest stealing nearly $130,000 worth of jewelry from a passenger's luggage. that passenger this is woman, christie ferrer. she took a flight from aspen to denver this month, noticed her cosmetics case was missing from her luggage. inside nearly $130,000 worth of jewelry. she the chief executive of a company in new york and once worked with mayor bloomberg on the rebuilding of the world trade

had taken willy to the aareaium and they waited outside in the snow for 45 minutes to visit the 4d theater ride. when she got to the front of the line, the ticket person who no longer works for the company uterd offensive remarks and denied them access. >> she asked what we were going to do with "this" and i pointed to, this my son sfshgs, and she said yeah, that. >> reporter: she said her son has gone on roller coasters, and she was stunned. >> words furious. and no thoughts for compassion, no intervention from management, and nothing was given. >> reporter: they gave her a refund but would not return her calls and emails. they admit he should have been aloud inside, and they're calling the case a "misunderstanding." now a judge will decide who's right. abbey says her goal is to send a message that people with disabilities deserve respect. >> willie being admitted to

further their understanding it's not okay to treat people this way. >> reporter: attorneys tell me judge gonzalez is expected to take a week before making her decision. landries just sent me a statement saying they are committed to providing an inclusive environment and there was no discrimination. you can read their entire statement on our website. a man who tried to his wife is one of the first to face a felony charge for that crime after a recent charge to colorado law. the victim told police he hit her in the mouth and started choking her. she escaped. a new law went into effect that makes nonfatal strangulation a felony instead of a lesser charge. >> we now have a strangulation bill passed in colorado, the law

crime of strangulation, which is impeding the breathing of another person or restricting their airways by grabbing their throat. it enables prosecutors to have another tool in order to make sure that in particular domestic violence perpetrators are most aggressively prosecuted. >> the new law high pressure system victims prove domestic violence in cases like this one. survivors of strangulation do not usually have visible injuries. emotional day for the denver police department as badly injured officer john adsit returns to work. he nearly died after being hit by a driver while he was escorting protesting students to east high school on his bicycle. it happened two years ago this december. the officer has already had 18 surgeries. and needs more. you can see how he's been recovering since that crash

the memorial will be a place to remember the lives taken by a gunman at the theater complex in aurora. rick salinger has an update on the story he broke earlier today. >> reporter: good evening. an aurora church reached out to members of its congregation ask them to open their pocket books to donate and help build a memorial here to the theater shooting victims.

with overwhelm generosity -- overwhelming generosity. >> colorado community church, after one month, we needed $90,000, you have given over $95,000.
