it looked like a winter scene at 77th and pecos. heavy rains flooded the area. some of the cars which ended up in the water got drenched inside and out. >> we had to get a bottle of gatorade and a wendy's cup to take the water out and move the ice. >> marcos said the blocks of hail weighed about 50 pounds each. can you imagine having to move these. he did because that's how he had to get his sister's vehicle mess. >> looks like styrofoam, but that's not. >> it's heavier. >> let's find out if there's more coming. thanks for joining us this half hour. >> i'm britt moreno. we have more storms on the way later today. here's lauren. >> good morning. there's a potential for more storms later. we're fairly quiet and mild after those storms last night. up in our north eastern corner, however, we have a little more activity with heavier rainfall and a little lightning this morning. so we'll talk about our storm chances in just a moment. right now let's check

we're looking across the denver-metro area. there's an accident at 74th and dalia. we're going to break down those drive times. a man is on the run this morning only wearing one shoe apparently. now, police say he stole an suv and a gun. than apparently crashed into another car here, and a person's fence. the fenton. sean is live. shawn, you have an update aboutt police found at the scene. >>reporter: yeah, britt. the scene is clear now, but they got a lot of evidence at this location. it all started in wheat ridge. police telling us that their suspect stole a black excursion there. also likely got a hand gun from another car in wheat ridge before coming into this area. police say that they were also in this area at the time when that black

and then ran a stop sign coming into this intersection 20th and fenton. that's what pushed the red car into the yard. and created this huge crash and mess that we saw here. three people were inside the red car at the time. they were able to get out. and they were actually able to get ahold of the driver of that black car just briefly. they were able to pull off his red sweat shirt and a shoe. we're told the suspect left a backpack before getting away. police tried to on foot and they had a k9-unit on scene. they weren't able to get him. there was a woman in this house at the intersection trying to sleep. >> at 1:50, i heard a loud screech and a very loud bang and i knew right away, it sounded like it was right outside my window and i jumped up and called 911. >> so police able to clear this

we did see them picking up a gun here on this location. so we're going to try and get more details about that. we know at this point a description that they have about that suspect, they're looking for. it's a black man wearing a light-colored shirt and red basketball short and missing one shoe. live in edge water, shawn chitnis, cbs4 morning news. >> the perimeter is down, right, shawn. >> that's right, alan. this area is completely opened up, so likely that suspect no the immediate area. >> thanks a lot. i appreciate it very. trump is going to make a speech on immigration today in arizona. before that, he says he's accepted an invitation to meet with mexico's president enrique. mexico's president says both trump and clinton have been invited and so far hillary clinton has no plans to meet with the mexican president before the elections. hanna daniels has the latest.

mexico's president in a tweet tuesday night, but gave little insight into his address on immigration in arizona this evening. >> we're also going to secure our border and stop the drugs from pouring in and destroying our country. and i'll be talking about that tomorrow night in arizona, big speech on immigration. >> that big speech comes in mid-speculation that the republican nominee is of undocumented immigrants. at a rally in washington state yesterday, trump used the issue to sway minority voters away from rival hillary clinton. >> hillary clinton's immigration policy, it brings in illegal immigrants and refugees to take jobs from our hard working african american and hispanic citizens. >>

morning commute and looking at our satellite and radar, we're quiet. in our north eastern corner, we have thunderstorms this morning. they're producing heavy rainfall, but they're isolated. 54 degrees in denver. 55 in boulder. 56 in burlington burlington. 34 in leadville. 64 in grand junction. for your bus stop forecast this morning, nice morning. we'll have a few cloud and temperatures in the upper 50s so not a bad start. we'll talk about the storms in a moment, but first let's check with joel in trouble spots. the road. that's going to slow things down. they're coming up. taking a look from thornton to denver, speeds into the 70s. an 8-minute drive from 120th to i-70. great speeds along i-270 westbound along i-76 as well. we're across the denver-metro area, there's an accident at 74th and dalton. there's earlier accidents and cleanup on that continues. but look at that green that we have. that

posted speed limits everywhere except for and this is the exception of 74th and dalton. look along highway 6, we have slowing. thanks so much. here's an update to a story we brought you. two pit bulls who attacked and killed their owner are dead. the jefferson animal control put down the dogs. jefferson county deputies a reeved at a home to discover a 60-year old woman barely alive -- deputies arrived at a home to discover a 60-year old old woman barely alive. her son was bit own the arm, but expected to recover. neighbors reacted to the news of that attack. >> when your pets go after you, that's what shocked me. i know pit bulls do mean things if they're trained to or trained not to do, but to go after their owner, that blew me away. >> now, unfortunately this

were a problem. in 2008 the owner was ticketed for owning nuisance dogs when they broke out and scared a neighbor. it was a scary moment in an aurora church as the pastor announced they done it. raised $95,000 to fund a memorial for the victims of the aurora theater shooting. that effort had been stalled until the church took over. and then the church members found enough caring in their hearts to change the here's rick salinger. >> colorado, community church, after 1 month we needed 90, you have given over $95,000. over 95 now. >>reporter: last month on the 4th anniversary of the massacre, organizers announced they needed to reach $200,000 for the memorial. it will have a garden with benches for each of the

cbs4 has been following his story since he was nearly killed while protecting students during a protest. karen morfitt spoke to the officer about his return. >> it's a calling. >>reporter: it has been 21 months sense denver police officer john adsit has been back to work. >> i found out from my doctor that he was going to give me permission to go into a modified limited duty position. >> his last day on the job was in december of 2014. during a protest when he was run over and dragged several feet by a driver having a seizure. the injuries were severe. >> my evidence box that i finally that i got, had fatality on it. they didn't expect me to live. >> he describes -- adsit says stories of fellow officers who beat the odds motivated him to

well, there's hail storm and there's hail storms. this is the incredible aftermath of heavy rains and hail right near 72nd and pecos last night. that looks like big chunks of

water out of their vehicles. what a pain in the neck. people all over hit by hail last night. >> it's amazing. 1 man was reporting that hail weighed 50 pounds square there. so i can't imagine have dig -- having to dig out of that. >> if you get a thunderstorm today, it could produce heavy rainfall. there's a lot of hai be careful if you see the storms develop. live look outside where skies are clear this morning and looking at our visibility. it's not clear for everyone. we have fog in some spots from fort collins through greeley through fort morgan, akron area near sterling. fog near ray so it's thick towards morgan and -- it may take a little while for that to mix out. looking at our satellite and radar, we're calm and quiet

of nebraska and into our northeast corner. from jewelsburg through holy oak, close to ray, you have heavier rainfall with this thunderstorm in the area. it may stick around for a little while longer. there's a trough not moving so fast. looking at future cast, morning hours we'll see the fog mix out of here, by lunch time, we have scattered storms on the eastern plains, down south of denver and into our southern mountain areas. in denver, we may get thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening, and still have country. not quite as wide spread into the mountains or western slope and into the eastern plains. we could have rain overnight and watch out for heavy rain, if you get a storm, the potential is there for the leave dwrer rainfall. tomorrow morning, we could have showers on the eastern plains and there's a chance of isolated storms here in denver tomorrow. most should stay off to our west and then down south for tomorrow. temperatures as you're leaving the house this morning, 54 in denver. 55 in boulder. 56 in burlington. and in the high country, 34 in

welcome back, skies clear after last night's storms that rolled through the denver area.

we have a chance for more storms later. may not have the same path ads yesterday, but if you get one, watch out for heavy rainfall and a lot of small hail. this morning, we have scattered shower and thunderstorm activity south of holy oak right now near jewelsburg as well and that's going to stick around for a little while longer. we have fog as we head towards our north eastern corner from fort collins towards greeley and fort collin and akron and ray. in some areas, the advise abilities low near fort morgan and ray. our weather watcher wendy lives in the pete's area and 62 degrees and say the fog is a quarter mile to a mile and a half visibility: let's check with joel hillan >>n to denver, a 9 minute drive. we're seeing speeds into the 60s as you travel along the boulder turnpike. eastbound along 270 slowing down into the 40s. westbound will follow suit. westbound along i-76 ads well. for now, speeds into the 50s.

denver. as you come from the west, eastbound along i-70 from c-470 to i-25, it's a 13 minute drive to get eastbound along 6th avenue from golden to denver. it's slowing eastbound along 285 passed santa fe into downtown englewood, but still an 8 minute drive to i-25. alan. >> thanks a lot. collin kaepernick's choice to sit during the national anthem brought support and some are burning his jersey. laker star kareem is the latest to take on the issue. he wrote an opinion piece for the washington piece says kaepernick's protest is patriotic. >> if you look back at what thomas jefferson said, he said we have to protect people -- people's speech who say things we don't approve of.
