next. i thought it was a snow storm in august. it coming down so thick. >> that was no snow storm. incredible pictures at adams county hail storm, it leaves piles of trouble. live picture from copter 4 to show you now this morning. things are going a little bit dryer, a little bit calmer this morning all over the metro area. we had hail fall and it was rough. we're looking ahead to our labor day weekend. i'm alan gionet. >> and i'm britt moreno. let's figure out what's on tap for today. >> the storm has cleared and we're off to a sunny start. the chance for thunderstorms will return later on this afternoon and evening. and you could get heavy rain and hail out of that, but right now, we're quite across the state. there's fog in our north eastern corner and we also have thunderstorms in that area as well. so we'll time out the rest of the day in

we're watching this morning in traffic. 74th and dalia and there's an accident. slowing on highway 6 on the approach to i-70. a report of a stall in the eastbound direction. you can see things already backing up to pecos. >> never good for the morning drive. thanks joel. breaking news of a wild crime spree in edge water this morning. a man allegedly steals a gun, a car, and then crashes that car into a woman's fence in sloan's lake. this morning, officers shawn chitnis is live at 20th and fenton in sloan's lake. shawn, good morning, what can you tell us? >>reporter: britt, police collected a lot of evidence here and we were able to watch that as we've been here all morning. as you mentioned, one of the items they collected was a gun. take a look at this video and you can see within the last hour, we saw police handling that gun and recovering it from the scene. unclear if that's in

morning. police say it was seconds after the shots were fired that the stolen black excursion ran a stop sign at 20th and fenton and crashed into this red saturn pushing that red car through a fence and through the yard of the home on the other side of the intersection. three people were inside that car. they got out and there grabbed the suspect in the black car. they managed to pull off his red swirt shirt. he left behind a shoe, and police also got a backpack from lives in the home to hear what it was like to see that crash. >> as you walk outside and you see two cars, one in your yard, what goes through your head? >> i felt very lucky that it didn't go through the house. so it definitely was a big wake up call, but i felt very lucky and i was glad the guys in it was able to be fine and walk away so

intersection. both of the cars have been removed and there was an initial foot chase and the k9-unit, but they're looking for that suspect described as a black man wearing a light-colored shirt and red basketball short and missing a shoe. live in edge water, shawn chitnis, cbs4 morning news. >> thank you very much. roads back open after sights like this. snow piled up in pay co. places. there was flooding and drivers got stuck and water splashed into cars. a man was using a cup to get the water out of his sister's car. >> we had to get a bottle of gatorade and a wendy's cup to take the water out and we're trying to move the ice out by hand. this is crazy, but this is where we live. >> it looks like styrofoam, but it's not. property was damaged

later today. more hail and rain could be on the way. >> if you get a thunderstorm today, and it's likely we get some across the front range and the eastern plains, watch out for the heavy rainfall and the hail. we have a thunderstorm out in the eastern plains. you can see just south of holy oak between holy oak and ray and jewelsburg, there's heavy activity and heavy rainfall in the area. we have fog developing down into la junta. down to a half eastern corner from greeley towards fort collin and akron. the fog is nasty this morning. and it may take a couple of hours -- 55 in denver. 54 in boulder. 55 in burlington. freezing in leadville. 32. and 62 in grand junction. 49 in telluride. for your hour-by-hour forecast, the morning hours mostly sunny to partly sunny and we have a chance of afternoon and evening thunderstorms. so we'll time it out in a moment, right now, joel, is how is the drive?

this year eastbound along i-70 on the approach to brighton. our producer said police followed this car for a period of time and there's three police cars. i don't know if they're getting this off to the right shoulder. you should pull to the right shoulder always. this is a more dangerous route. you can see from our cbs4 mouse cam, we have backups to pecos on the eastbound direction. we have 74th and dalia and westbound along i-76 loading up and looking at the broader picture. we had a water main break. they have restored water near evans and santa fe. westbound evans does remain closed out to plat river road. you can take dartmo dartmouth. speeds down into the 40s and into the 30s.

southbound into the tech center. if you're getting in your car, turn on our partners koa 850 am and 94.1 fm. this morning, denver people are celebrating the return of an officer nearly killed while on duty. john adsit is going back to work after a driver dragged him. officer adsit was try to he endured 18 surgeries and likely need four more. he describes it as an uphill battle. >> my evidence box that i got had fatality accident on it, so the day of that, they didn't expect me to live. >> officer adsit says stories of fellow officers who beat the odds motivated him to get back to work and says his family

and are we going to see you and this and that and the other, and they're concerned after what happened. they want to know i'm in a safe spot. >> officer adsit is starting off in a new position. he'll work a few hours a day, but he hopes to 1 day return to the streets. new from overnight, r and b star chris brown is now out on a $250,000 bond as he faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon this morning. brown'sat saying chris is out and well and claims the allegations against him are demon treeable false. pageant contestant says brown threatened her with a gun during a party. occuren says she was admiring a diamond necklace at his house and curren was asked to sign an agreement as she left

fort collins -- after threats force it's to close yesterday. more than 1,000 workers at a research centser for the department of agriculture had to evacuate. colorado is five states where usfd has -- they received e-mail threats serious enough to shut down the offices. maryland, north carolina and west virginia were effected. the fbi has not yet released specifics about those threats, and what they were about.>> accused of broken into fiddler's theater and stealing alcohol. they have broken in three times late at night. they go for bottles of liquor, beer and wine. the thieves are probably in their late teens, early 20s. happening today, we'll get an update on csu -- he's giving his fall address and he'll talk about highlight from the past year and the goals from this year.

of that. this is near the pecos area and you can see there's a ton of hail left out there. it should melt more today, but we got nailed with a lot of hail yesterday. it wasn't big, severe weather hail, but there was a lot of small hail that piled on up. you can see it's on the street there. and in that area. so thanks to copter 4 for the great view. we could get more today. if you get a thunderstorm, the potential for heavy out there. there's a possibility -- what we're dealing with this morning, we have fog near la junta and lamar and a half mile visibility. fort collinses towards ray we have thicker fog this morning and some areas it's bad. we're look being at lower visibility from fort morgan -- and there's delays at dia. looking at satellite and radar, we have

our north eastern corner between holy oak and ray this morning: we have heavier rainfall. lighs died down. a wider look at what's going on . we have this monsoonal flow bringing subtropical moisture. there's moisture in the atmosphere and we could get heavy rainfall and hail with today's storms. that storm activity may stick around for a while on the eastern plains. a little more wide spread as we head into the lunch hour. scattered thunderstorms possible down into we may get isolated storms in the denver area. heavy rainfall is possible and overnight tonight, a few more clouds out there. we could have rain on the eastern plains. we could have fog tomorrow morning and temperatures this morning, 55 in denver. 54 in boulder. 55 in burlington. 82 in denver . 79 in boulder. lots of 70s in the high kun country and eastern plains. nice morning for the kids and for your 5-day forecast, tomorrow, upper 80s

joel. >> we're watching the drive alo. 36 and i-25. we have volume out there especis you go southbound coming down into town. nothing yet that's going to slow you down too bad. looking at the drive times. speeds into the 50s southbound coming into town. 10-minute from 120th to i-70. you got speeds into the 60s. both directions along i-270, we're seeing slower speeds, but only into the 40s. 8 minutes from i-225 to i-70. westbound along i-76, that's the toughest part of the drive. we have an accident at 74th and dalia and an accident in the northbound direction of santa fe as towards mississippi. here's a look at the drive times from the east, southbound along i-225, you saw it load up. speeds into the 40s. 4 minutes not too bad from parker road to i-225. a slow -- slowing down both directions as you head to i 75 to i-225.

the typhoon collapsed the embankments of two rivers flooding areas nearby. plus we have a victory in the fight against isis this morning. a spokesperson for the extremist group says isis powerful leaders is dead. killed while overseeing operations in northern syria. the group is not saying how muhammad died. he's widely relieved to have inspired and directed attacks in the west. many expected him possible successor. the u.s. has helped kill tens of thousands of isis fighters. the king of arizona are celebrating victories in the primary. rubio planned to retire from politics after he lost his home state to trump in the presidential nomination. he had primaries -- he'll face democratic rep and kirkpatrick

welcome back. let's look from copter 4 where you can see again we have that hail leftover from yesterday. and those going to be a lot in many areas. it's going to melt a be careful this morning, and pretty -- it was a big thunderstorm that rolled through. there's a chance we get more hail like that again today in some areas and along with heavy rainfall. so there's the potential for more afternoon thunderstorms. this morning, what we're deal with this fog in areas. there's delays at dia thanks to that fog. check with air line.

alan. >> breaking news this morning. a man with one shoe is on the run after stealing an suv and a gun and smashing camacho into a car -- and smashing into a car. the shoeless thief nearly got nabbed by those involved. >>reporter: that's right alan. we have been talking about this intersection opened. it's closed again. this is where the shoe was left and that's where we can see some officers they've returned to this location just to get a few more details as they work this case and look for that suspect. let's look at video from earlier this morning where we can see the cars involved. the black excursion stole friend -- that was stolen from wheat ridge. and it crashed into a sat earn pushing it into a fence.

the dogs killed 60-year old susan shaw. her son tried to pull the dog off her mother >> to go after their owner, that blew me away. i couldn't hardly believe that. >> we learned authorities ticketed the dog's owner 8 years ago after they broke out and frightened a neighbor. time for weather and traffic and lauren is tracking another round of thunderstorms coming today. >> we could see some more today. a live look outside where the sun is working its way up. after the storms last night. let's look at the fog because it's thick. western slope you're clear and nice and very thick fog from la junta towards lamar and as we head to the northern part of the state towards greeley and ray, we have thick fog down to a half mile visibility towards fort morgan and akron and greeley, you have bad spots. be careful this morning. it's going to take a couple of more hours to clear out. clear across the state

for your 5-day forecast for tomorrow, mid-to up 80s and we'll see temperatures like that through the weekend. >> not too bad. take a look at the drive across the denver-metro area. we've got a lot of volume out there. this is i-25 and santa fe. there's an accident northbound at mississippi that may be cleared to the shoulder. southbound coming into town, speeds into the 40s. 13 minutes from 120th to i-70. eastbound along70 that's a 12-minute drive. cbs mouse cam trap showing slows eastbound along i-70. you can see that illustrated in the red there underneath federal. southbound you get passed i-70 around that stadium curve. it's a slow go. there's the accident we were tat , santa fe and mississippi, we have another one at 100th and colorado. southbound along i-225, speeds dipping into the 20s. if you're coming from the west in the

looking at great speed into the 50s and 60s and dipping into the 20s as you get to downtown englewood. from santa fe to i-25 passed colorado that's a 9-minute drive which is not too bad. southbound along i-225 we talked about the speeds into the teens, 10 minutes from parker road to i-25. britt. >> joel, thank you. people in fort collins should keep their puts inside. crews will spray for mosquitos to decrease the risk of west nile virus. spraying will start at 8:00 in the morning. leaders in larimer county are extending fire -- that means no campfire. a fire near carter lake came close to homes. restrictions are going to last, we're told until september 15th. new this morning for us, a dean at cu boulder is stepping down following allegations of gender discrimination. david is stepping down from the lead school of business.

berry faced three federal gender discrimination complaints. a senator bill will take over as dean some time this semester. there was a break through in the effort to build a memorial for the victims of the aurora theater shooting. the colorado community church in aurora put out a challenge to its church members and a month later, they've done it. they've raised largely stalled effort to create a memorial to the shooting victims. the church says 600 people donate it had. the memorial will have a garden with a bench for each of the 12 murdered. a cousin of a woman who lost her 6-year old and her pregnancy. sullivan knew of the pastor's effort to help the victim's families. >> every week he would e-mail us the amount of money they raised so far.

don reporting 58 degrees in joh. right now let's check with joel. a water main break caused a mess. they were able to get water restored to those in the area. this is -- look at the mess on the roads. westbound evans is shut down near santa fe. just a mess. that's through the evening comm. so we're going to continue to watch that for. denver-metro area to show you what we have. there's an accident along santa fe at mississippi and we have new trouble southbound along i-225 and that's not a spot where an accident helps anything. eastbound along c-470 passed walsworth starting to load up. we'll show you drive times in a couple of minutes, britt. >> joel, thank you.

we've been tracking -- a man stole a gun and suv and crashed into another car which damaged a neighbor's property. it has been quite the scene this morning. shawn chitnis has been working it at 20th and fenton. we understand that police found key pieces of evidence. >>reporter: britt, the scene has been changing through the morning. they did collect evidence just 15 minutes ago. this area was closed ads police were back on scene taking a look at what happened early in the morning, but here now, you can see traffic is fence still broken from the crash that ended all of this. it began with a black excursion stolen in wheat ridge along with a gun, then the driver of that car bringing it over here, shots fired in the area, that driver then working their way into this intersection, 20th and fenton running the stop sign, and crashing into a red sat earn and that car pushed the car into the fence and through the yard by

car. they got out and tried to grab the driver of the black excursion and they were able to pull his sweat shirt off, that driver also left a shoe. police later were able to recover a gun here, but the driver of the black excursion did getaway. police chasing him by foot and using a k9-unit. when this was happening, someone was inside the house at the edge of this intersection and we chatted with her earlier in the morning. >> at screech, and a loud window. i jumped up and called 911. >> so there is a mess left for that woman to cleanup, but at least she's okay. and the house is expected to be okay. but the search continues for that suspect driving that black excursion. police telling us he's described as a black man wearing a light-colored shirt

live in edge water, shawn chitnis, cbs4 morning news. >> thank you very much. the hail is sticking around in adams county this morning. copter 4 flew over the area of 72nd and pecos not too long ago where people were having a look. they can't believe it's there. this is what the area looked like last night. the storm led to flooding, roads were closed, drivers got stuck. water splashed into cars. there were big blocks of hail to try and climb over. cup to get water out of sister's vehicle right here. people could not believe what happened. >> i thought it was a snow storm in august. it as coming down so thick. i couldn't even see, maybe 10 feet in front of me. it coming down like that. it coming down so hardy was getting hit with it and it was hurting -- it was hitting me hard. >> the storm damaged property in that area. we're expecting to

red cross says 6 homes are unlivable. 5 others damaged after monday's hail damage in colorado springs. they had deep piles of hails near -- plenty of flooding. we saw a feet of hail on sidewalks and people were bailing out of their basements. it was everywhere. right now we want to look live from doppler 4000. it's not hail, but check it out. storms hawaii's big island is preparing for the first hurricane to make land fall. it's going to pass south of the big island today. and here you see another tropical storm gathering itself here. there's a warning out this morning for a section of florida's gulf coast as this approaches to the coastline. today is the day many thought might not come. a denver police officer nearly killed while on duty almost 2 years ago will return to work

investigation into hillary clinton's use of private e-mail server during her time as secretary of state. warning out this morning after two people kidnapped and robbed a mom and her two kids in lafayette. the woman and her 4-year old son were outside the good will store on monday when a man and woman asked for a ride to the post video. we have videos and here's photos of the subjects. they got into the woman's call, all of them and picked up the woman's 8-year old daughter from school. police say that's when the men pulled a money from an atm and from her home. the man who woman told the mom to drop them off near the goodwill. someone saw the robbers getaway with a late model sedan with out of state plates. r and b star chris brown is out of jail after reports he threatened a beauty pageant contestant with a gun. he posted $250,000 bail overnight and bailey curren, this woman
