this is a news at 6 am. if you thought donald trump was softening on immigration, think again. we have that story coming up. this incident on the streets of denver. >> three officers are hurt trying to recover this morning. they wrestled with an armed man who they shot and killed d outside, a calm morning but guess what is coming next. labor day weekend. good morning. i am alan gionet. september is here. let's get a check on weather and traffic and see what september is bringing us. >> first day of september starting off to play. clear skies in denver and fog in some areas in northern colorado. let's take a look at the satellite and radar. a little bit of rain near

near grand junction. that is it. the rest of us on the clear and we should stay that way today. we will see some rain in the high country. we will talk more about that in a moment. this is not a good way to start the morning commute. northbound i 25 at harmony road, you have a truck here on its side. this traffic is pushed to the far right side. intel looking at a drive times slowing down onto 70. three denver police officers hurt after a man climbed through a window before he got into a fight with police. he tried to wrestle away and officers weapon. that man is dead and we have the latest. this is near bates and bryant. this all happened here yesterday.>> reporter: we are hoping to learn more about that man killed in the officer involved shooting. police have not released his identity yet. neighbors say yesterday it was in the late morning that police

they were preparing to give a warrant or several warrants it to the suspect. officers were let inside by other residents at that home. that suspect did escape through a window and police went after him into the street. according to police the suspect tried to grab a weapon from an officer and several shots fired. the suspect was hit and then died from the injuries. three officers were also injured in the process. get him off the streets. because he was a danger obviously. of the three officers, two of them were taken to the hospital but all three are expected to be okay. neighbors telling us they saw

had a feeling the suspect may try to get away. live in denver, cbs4. a woman is dead in a crash at her home. a man hit her last night at the intersection. alcohol is suspected in this crash. two children and a staff member only have minor injuries after this happened. a car went crashing into an aurora daycare center. it happened yesterday afternoon on south havana. the driver apparently slammed right through that building leaving piles of debris.>> the moment i turned around i saw -- i heard through and write into this entrance. the crash happened during a chase. officers say the driver was wanted for hit-and-run at yale and parker. police took the driver into custody and they say that person was on drugs. tropical storm hermine will come a sure -- sure today. live look at doppler radar now shows you what is happening

it strengthened overnight as it charged in the gulf of mexico. it could strengthen into a hurricane today before it does make landfall. there is a tropical storm warning issued on that section of the east coast right now. hermine outer bands have dumped several inches of rain in parts of tampa and that has caused the flooding in the streets. people up and down the gulf coast have battle driving rain as they prepare for the storm's approach. the governor of in over 50 counties in that storm's path. this is hawaii. people in hawaii are feeling the effects of the matalin. it was a category one and but weekend to a tropical storm. heavy rain is falling over hilo and people are keeping an eye on another approaching hurricane lester. lauren, lester for big

this before the morning commute so let's put up some cones and we will move on. they will be back out there later but all of that slowing we have has cleared out. here are the drive times coming into town. 12 minutes on the drive from 120th to i 70. speeds in the lower 30s and upper 30s westbound. check in with one of the top stories today. this morning three denver police officers recovering from a struggle with a wanted man that ended up with the man dead. officers ended up shooting near bates and bryant yesterday. they say he went for an officer's gun. shawn chitnis is live the. let's go and get the latest on what happened out there. but get the update on the officers first. we know that three officers were injured and two were taken to the hospital. to be treated. all three expected to have a full recovery and be okay. yesterday in the neighborhood we are told folks who live here saw people setting up a perimeter in preparation to try

they were here late in the morning of the 2600 block of west bates. police were here and able to get into the house because of other residents letting them in but the suspect escaped through a window. police went after him into the street and he tried to grab a weapon from an officer and that is when shots were fired at the suspect was hit and killed. coming up, we will hear from one of the neighbors that was there that knew the suspect. ot the two men accused of setting a devastating wildfire in boulder county will face a judge. investigators say 28-year-old jimmy suggs and 26-year-old zackary kuykendall started the cold springs fire. they are from alabama. they did not put a campfire out properly. the cold springs fire destroyed eight houses and burned 600 acres of land earlier this summer. 1000 people had to evacuate. fort carson is holding a
