rick, you just learned exclusive information about that suspect. >> reporter: well the man who has been arrested karen is 39- year-old sean scott. he was wanted for five different bank robberies that occurred in the denver area between may and august of this year. he was known as the bicycle bandit, because sometimes that's how he would make his getaway. it happened in an industrial area near i-25 this afternoon. >> our departmere person who had an outstanding warrant, at about 12:07 p.m. today, our office attempted to make contact with that individual, and shots were fired. >> reporter: this tow truck was on the scene, when the owner of the company says a man started pointing a firearm at his driver. >> the guy started waving the gun at the tow truck and the police were already behind somebody else, and then from my understanding, there were some shots fired. >> reporter: just why the

immediately disclosed. police indicated they were seeking a suspected bank robber at the time. a man wanted in a series of denver area holdups. >> sean scott wanted for some armed robbery. >> how many times? >> that's going to be something in the investigation. at present, we understand it's one officer that was involved. >> reporter: the man with the gun was not struck by a bullet. police say he was taken away in an ambulance due to a medical the tow truck was in the area, patrolling for unauthorrized cars in private lots. >> in our business, because we do a lot of private parkers, it's not uncommon to be angry, so that's the nature of the business, sometimes. >> reporter: investigators search for evidence in the case that is expected to unfold over time. we've just received information on how this apparently all came

patrolling, when the people inside it noticed, scott, who they apparently recognized and contacted denver police. when police arrived, scott allegedly opened fire on the tow truck, striking it more than once. police opened fire on scott, but he was not struck. nevertheless, he was injured in some sort of confrontation and is now hospitalized at health. rick, thank you. some breaking traffic news. a stretch of i-70 closed in both directions right now due to a wildfire. c-dot says the highway is closed between ruleson and parachute. we don't know how big that fire is yet, or when the interstate might open. the latest on a wildfire burning near the colorado/wyoming area.

crews from several kepts are attacking those claims from the ground, and from up above. some evacuations were ordered yesterday. but no new ones today. there is a meeting planned tonight for those impacted. at 6:30, at the livermore community church, they can get more information. it's believed license started this fire. ed greene joining us now. ed, obviously, dangerously dry in many parts of our state right now. dry and getting drier. moving out of kiowa county, and they're gone and moving council south into baca county. here's where the fire watch is for high fire danger, and you add the red flag warning on top of that. you see it it's for the west. as far as the fire goes, starwood, we're not in a fire weather watch, or a red fire warning there, but it is close, so we might as well be. there is the new fire in

hate to tell you, not a lot of rain coming our way. >> ed thanks very much. holiday traffic wrapping up. that means heavy traffic coming back to the front rank from the high country. near ever green, there is a live look right now. we know there have been serious backups leaving from silverthorne up to the eisenhower tunnel. detective dan brite has besh in the hospital. he was shot friday by a suspected suicidal man. authorities say randy roddick drove his rv loaded with weapons and ammunition into a field near a school and a hospital. roddick was then shot and killed. the family released a statement, saying they extend their deepest sympathies to detective dan brite and his family, and all who have experienced pain and suffering, caused by the events on friday.

help out detective brite and his family. we have fundraisers on cbsdenver.com. a carbon monoxide scare in an apartment building. it happened on canyon boulevard and boulder. our tom mustin dropped by there today. and tom, some people are telling you, this really did make them sick. >> reporter: well jim, including a woman who said she became so violently sick, she thought she was management says the problem has been fixed, but several residents have not returned. others tell me, they believe their lives are still in danger. >> but i felt very, very nauseous, very dizzy. >> mary doesn't want to show her face after becoming violently ill during a carbon monoxide leak at her boulder apartment complex. >> i thought i was going to throw up. i was sweating. my heart was beating really fast. >> reporter: last friday morning, boulder firefighters evacuated the canyon apartments.

family. there is still a few hours to catch this year's taste of colorado. >> the event will be serving up music, food, and fun until 8:00 tonight. we've seen some big crowds all weekend. this year's event featured more than 50 restaurants. of course, they had concerts, and carnival rides as well. ed greene, hope that the menu included sunscreen today. >> it should have, because we had a sunny day. just a few high clouds pushing across the area right now, but it is dry around here. in fact, the whole pretty dry. moving into baca county, they may get clipped by a few storms heading out of new mexico. that is it. fire watch is up until 7:00 over to west. you couple that with a high red flag warning. that goes until 7:00 tonight for high fire danger. here is one of those fires. the starwood fire, very close to the border here, where they do have the red flag warning.

well, because that's how dry it is up there. this is the one out near parachute, also within that fire danger area. as we take a look, we had a little warm front, a kink really in the stationary front. that allowed the warm air to come up from the south and give us the 90s today. a surge of cooler air pushes through, and that will knock 10 or 12 degrees off our thermometer. here is hermine. just wandering out west-northwest at 7 miles an hour. just 4 miles an hour away from a category 1 hurricane. so we're watching this one very carefully. this might give us help. this is hurricane newton at baja california. moving northwest, but it's going to track back to the east and towards southeastern arizona, and that could just surge some moisture into our area, and give us some much needed rains. that will happen toward the end of the week.

after the super bowl victory think again. most of the broncos are down playing the contest. it hardly the same team. neither is that guy who played quarterback. call it a rematch if you want, but the broncos, they're not buying it. >> we just really drill ourselves to talk about what's going on right now. you know, and like i said, i told you guys yesterday, a new year, a new game. a lot of different things going on with both football focused on what's happening right now. had a good day, had another good day, two good days in a row. practice and good focus. emmanuel sanders is in the final year of his contract. the broncos receiver has been vocal that he wants a new deal, but that has yet to happen. sanders is saying, he's betting on himself to have a goodyear, and trying not to focus on his contract. >> as far as that contract situation, i go out every

butt off, and looking forward to the season, making plays. i really do love this game. that will take care of itself. we'll see how that goes. the rockies have lost three of their last four games entering today, but they haven't had a problem scoring runs. the rockies averaging more than 7 runs per game during that stretch, and the hot hitting continued today. what a 3rd inning it was for the intentionally walked nolan aranaldo. nick hundley with a solo shot. chad bettis pitched a complete game today. and the rockies getting a much needed 6-0 win.
