developing tonight at 10:00, a serial bank robber who often used a bicycle to make his getaway has been captured. we've been reporting on the crimes for months now. now cbs4 was the first to confirm that the robbery suspect was the man involved in

today. >> reporter: police have known who he is for quite some time, but they haven't been able to track him down until today. they were tipped off by a tow truck driver who spotted him near this area. when they tried to make contact with him, shots were fired. >> after months of terrorizing area banks, shawn scott, aka, the bicycle bandit's robbery spree came to an intense end. >> at 10:07 today, our officers attempted to make contact with him today and shots were fired. >> reporter: the first was in may at this u.s. bank on south broadway, walking in with a note, demanding money, and leaving on his bicycle. he hit three more times in june, that when the fbi spoke with us about his unusual m.o.

with anybody else on a bicycle. >> reporter: scott prompted a crimestoppers bulletin, and all eyes peeled. bill owen says it's one of his drivers who spotted scott. >> the guy started waving the gun at the tow truck, and the police were already behind someone else. from my understanding, there's some shots fired. >> reporter: we spoke to the driver off camera. he immediately called it in. when police arrive says scott opened fire on him, and at least one detective responded by firing at scott. >> reporter: now police were injured in this afternoon's shooting. scott, however was taken to the hospital for some sort of medical condition. police have not said yet what this was. he was not shot. we're live tonight in denver, cbs4 news. happening now, pictures

or silver suv. another brazen act on campus before 8:00 a.m. a student was walking under an overpass when a man grabbed her in the buttock and thigh. the second suspect is described as a 30 to 40-year-old ma is 5'10", with medium length dark curly hair, and a tan complexion. boulder police tell us they have increased security in the area, but tell us one of the best things of a person in this area can do to protect themselves is to always keep that door locked. fort collins police responded to a pawn shop after reports a body was discovered there. investigators say the man's body was in a ditch.

she's not convinced that the management company is doing enough to keep her and her neighbor's safe. she shared her concerns with cbs4's tom mustin. >> i felt very, very nauseous, very dizzy. >> reporter: mary doesn't want to show her face after being ill at her apartment complex. >> i was sweating, my heart was beating very fast. >>po floor, and she thought she had food poisoning. when her dog became sick, they tried to leave the apartment. >> i took a couple steps and had to lay down in the hallway. >> reporter: firefighters eventually led her outside. >> i was so weak i couldn't get dressed. >> reporter: after breathing oxygen, mary still felt sick and went to the hospital that night.
