today. >> reporter: police have known who he is for quite some time, but they haven't been able to track him down until today. they were tipped off by a tow truck driver who spotted him near this area. when they tried to make contact with him, shots were fired. >> after months of terrorizing area banks, shawn scott, aka, the bicycle bandit's robbery spree came to an intense end. >> at 10:07 today, our officers attempted to make contact with him today and shots were fired. >> reporter: the first was in may at this u.s. bank on south broadway, walking in with a note, demanding money, and leaving on his bicycle. he hit three more times in june, that when the fbi spoke with us about his unusual m.o.

with anybody else on a bicycle. >> reporter: scott prompted a crimestoppers bulletin, and all eyes peeled. bill owen says it's one of his drivers who spotted scott. >> the guy started waving the gun at the tow truck, and the police were already behind someone else. from my understanding, there's some shots fired. >> reporter: we spoke to the driver off camera. he immediately called it in. when police arrive says scott opened fire on him, and at least one detective responded by firing at scott. >> reporter: now police were injured in this afternoon's shooting. scott, however was taken to the hospital for some sort of medical condition. police have not said yet what this was. he was not shot. we're live tonight in denver, cbs4 news. happening now, pictures

that starwood fire near larimer. you reporter john rash sent us these, showing an air drop on the flames. the fire has burned about 350 acres. >> it makes me realize it's always possible. i live down the road, i'm not concerned about this fire right now, but it does make me realize and always remember that chance is out there. >> reporter: fire officials confirm lightning sparked fire. it is about 35% contained. developing now, back-to- back sexual crimes on and around the cu boulder campus have students looking over their shoulders. melissa garcia live at 26th and colorado with the latest. >> karen, just to show you how close this happened to cu, we're standing right now on the edge of campus. that building behind me, that is a cu building. now just across the street from

woman who was sleeping was attacked while she was, as we mentioned, asleep on her couch. now, two attacks in a row have students who live around here feeling on edge. >> when it's like right next to your house, it's really terrifying, because it gets literally closer to home. >> reporter: it couldn't get much closer to home for cu senior monica paton. she just learned of a brazen se little bit of anxiety for us. >> reporter: around 4:00 a.m. saturday, a man broke into a home there. the woman inside asleep on her couch woke up to the man trying to have sex with her. police released sketches of the suspect described as a black man between 25 and 30 years old, 5'8" to 5'10" with a stalky build. he may have been wearing glasses, khaki colored shorts, and a polo styled shirt with

or silver suv. another brazen act on campus before 8:00 a.m. a student was walking under an overpass when a man grabbed her in the buttock and thigh. the second suspect is described as a 30 to 40-year-old ma is 5'10", with medium length dark curly hair, and a tan complexion. boulder police tell us they have increased security in the area, but tell us one of the best things of a person in this area can do to protect themselves is to always keep that door locked. fort collins police responded to a pawn shop after reports a body was discovered there. investigators say the man's body was in a ditch.

suspicious nature. it's not clear how that man died. we're following a developing story. our stan bush went there today, and learned people in that neighborhood call it a very dangerous intersection. >> reporter: the collision happened early enough in the evening where people were still going in and out of area bars. neighbors here say that they did not notice the flashing lights from the emergency scene, because they say all the time. emergency crews tried, but could not save a woman hit in the middle of the street. the shocking scene just before 11 sunday night. the victim hit in the eastbound lanes, crossing montview boulevard. that car nearly hit a cyclist when we were there. cameron says it's safer to

>> they call it like the intersection, like the death intersection over here. >> reporter: the collision sunday night was so traumatic, police say they've struggled to identify the victim, and because of that haven't been able to notify her family. police don't know how much the driver was drunking, because he refused to take a breathalyzer, and have to rely on a blood test. he has been charged with drunk driving of an accident. park rangers say they've recovered the body of a hiker and climber from denver who went missing in grant teton national park in wyoming. he was last seen last wednesday in the park then reported on friday. about 100 people searched for him on the ground before his body was found by a search plane yesterday evening. he was a summer employee at the grand teton lodge. days after a woman suffered

she's not convinced that the management company is doing enough to keep her and her neighbor's safe. she shared her concerns with cbs4's tom mustin. >> i felt very, very nauseous, very dizzy. >> reporter: mary doesn't want to show her face after being ill at her apartment complex. >> i was sweating, my heart was beating very fast. >>po floor, and she thought she had food poisoning. when her dog became sick, they tried to leave the apartment. >> i took a couple steps and had to lay down in the hallway. >> reporter: firefighters eventually led her outside. >> i was so weak i couldn't get dressed. >> reporter: after breathing oxygen, mary still felt sick and went to the hospital that night.
