burlington as well. satellite and radar, we do have some thunderstorms early, early this morning. those are fizzling on out for the eastern plains. for the rest of us a little bit more sunshine, clear skies, i should say to start the day. hour-by-hour forecast, 85 by 2:00 and a warm afternoon in store. should be a great night, though, for the broncos game. let's check in with joel. good morning. >>reporter: good morning. a great drive across the denver metro area this morning. of course overnight construction. that's what always gets in your way, right? not hb hampden, looks like the cones are a little farther down the road this morning. here we are across the denver metro area, lights malfunctions colfax and clarkson. treat that as a four-way stock. i'm taking you in, civic center park, oh, man, it is going to be a rockin' place, a couple of fantastic headliners for that nfl kickoff concert. expect closures between bannick and 14th. we have the 9/11 remembrance going to be going on this weekend, so these road closures will remain in place for the weekend

for ransom is free in a rare case in colorado. the 27-year-old victim is going to be fine. now investigators are looking to figure out the motive and to fine the people behind it. our rick sallinger explains how a fight over horses may have played a crucial part: >>reporter: $200,000 cash was left at this gate, the ransom that had finally obtained the release of the kidnapped victim. and that's where he was found, here on his family's ranch. >> there was past couple years of -- between, i guess one family and another family of their horses. >>reporter: but investigators are looking deeper to see if those horses may have been fronted a lot of money. federal, state and local authorities announced the results of the case. >> we don't see many kidnappings. they're very rare, particularly ransom kidnappings. >>reporter: it began last week with the report of a customer abducted here. >> early the next morning on

identify a victim based on credit card information. >>reporter: it was later learned the victim had been taken to this apartment in brighton where he was held for several days. megan chain lives in the same building and saw something suspicious. >> close the door [ indiscernable ] so it's not my business. >>reporter: three arrests have been made, but the fourth suspect believed to be planner remains at large. >> rick sallinger reporting there. after receiving the cash, the kidnappers checked the money for a tracking device and shortly after that they were arrested. a couple from longmont is in jail right now accused of abuse after a 17-year-old boy was brought in weighing about 88 pounds when he got to the hospital. a doctor describe the boy as looking like a concentration camp survivor. the boy is blind and autistic.

of the month. henna daniels, cbs news. >> trump will be in cleveland, ohio today. the clinton campaign will head to north carolina and missouri. a late push yesterday on wall street helped end a mixed day, and now investors are hoping the gains will return. jill wagner live this morning on the floor of the new york stock exchange with your money watch. hey, jill. >>reporter: good morning, alan. it was another record-setting day on wall street. the dow fell 12 points, the nasdaq rose 8 closing at a new record high. futures now pointing higher open. walt disney world is now requiring children between the ages of 3-9 had their fingers scanned before entering the theme park as a way to prevent people from sharing tickets. older guests have already been scanning their fingers. apple didn't really wow investors with its new iphone and products launch. shares rose, but only by a fraction. the iphone 7 is water resistent with a longer battery life and a better camera. there is no headphone jack is. apple isn't put ago converter for people who aren't ready to

strokings. here's don champion with today's health watch. >>reporter: overweight or obese women may be at higher risk of having the most common kind of stroke, called ischemic stroke. the university of oxford finds overweight women may be at lower risk of hemorrhagic stroke which is also deadly. marijuana use continues to rise among college students, but use of narcotics and amfet means are also both on the decline. an annual survey from the university of michigan also marijuana use is at the highest level in more than three decades, and heart patients who meet weekly exercise guidelines spend an average of $2,500 less on healthcare costs. that's according to new research in the journal of the american heart association, people without cardiovascular disease who exercised regularly also saw healthcare cost savings. that's a look at some of the day's top health stories. don champion, cbs news, dallas.

this. police in florida caught up with an 11-foot long, 450-pound alligator wandering close to a middle school. it happened yesterday morning in the town of dabee. police say they received calls about this particular suspect before they couldn't drag it down until now, though, and you can see why. they trapped this big reptile with the help from experts from florida fish and wildlife conservation commission, and now they don't know what with that big alligator. they don't know if they'll put it down, release it somewhere else. it's a tough decision. lauren right now on your weather. we have some wind tonight, lauren. >> i think it will be okay in the wind department. we're going to talk about our broncos forecast in just a moment. it will be a little bit windy in parts of the high country today. that's where we would have some wind concerns. let's take a look at our temperatures right now, 56 in denver, 57 in boulder, 61 out in burlington, 35 in leadville, 43 in steamboat, 40 in craig and 59 over in grand junction. now, visibility is better than

eastern plains from wray to burlington, and it's not as bad right now as it was yesterday at this time. we did have a couple of thunderstorms roll through the eastern plains this morning. those are wrapping up, and the rest of us a little bit more sunshine or clear skies this morning to start off. we had some pretty thick cloud cover the last couple of days, not as much this morning. now, again, we'll still have some fog out on the eastern plains, but for the rest of us, mostly sunny skies today, again, a little bit windy in the high country, and we don't have red-flag warnings today because the winds aren't quite be cautious outside. a couple of thunderstorms possible out on the eastern plains, but here in denver and the rest of the state, we are dry. so when you watch the broncos tonight, whether you're in the high country, western slope, everything should be clear and dry. you can grill before the game here in denver, it's going to be rockin' later on. and then overnight tonight skies are clear. tomorrow morning we wake up to sunshine and then tomorrow is a really nice day. we do have a front that's going to work its way through. that's going to bring us some cooler temperatures and it will get a little bit windier as well tomorrow, but we don't get

along there. i'm going to take you into these closures that lauren was mentioning because we got civic center park, we have a taste of colorado, that's all picked up, now we have great concerts that are going on, the nfl kickoff concert, cloud closures along bannick and 14th. it's going to be a mess tonight. i would recommend paying to park beforehand, using an app or coming down on public transportation. >> public transportation always a good option and safer one too. congress still deadlocked about emergency funding to yesterday florida republican congressman david scwroly brought a canister of mosquitoes to the house floor to condemn the lack of action by his fellow members of congress on zika. aerial spraying for mosquitoes scheduled for today over miami beach has been postponed until tomorrow because of concern about that spraying. a world war ii pilot with a congressional gold medal had a final wish to be buried at arlington national cemetery, but when elaine harmon passed

honor. until yesterday. here's our david martin with the story. plct playing taps." >>reporter: it took an act of congress for elaine harmon's ashes to be allowed into arlington national cemetery, even though she was a member of the women's air force service pilots during world war ii. >> my grandmother an the other members of the wasp were the first women to fly military aircraft for the united states military. >>reporter: erin miller was proud of her grandmother's service, training the men went into combat. >> my grandmother's last wishes were to have her ashes at arlington national cemetery. >>reporter: but women in the wasp did not qualify for entry into arlington, so she had to store her grandmother's ashes in a closet. that's not a very good resting place. >> no, it certainly is not a very dignified resting place, but we really didn't know what else to do. >>reporter: congressman martha mcsally, one of the first women to fly combat aircraft
