bringing you nice weather. nothing bad happening this weekend. fantastic weather in store. another good part of the broncos win. just giving you extra good stuff now. 56 in boulder and 62 in burlington and 39 in leadville and 40 as we head towards aspen and 55 in grand junction. a nice weekend ahead and cooler temperatures today so we'll talk about that in a moment. joel is watching the drive now. >> yeah, we had the closures for a taste of colorado that went into the the closures still remaining in place. they're switching the banner to be the 9/11 remembrance concert. that affects bannic and 14th avenue and looks like for now it's affecting colfax. doctors are treated a girl and her father at a house fire in lakewood. this happened near south kipling and west morrison. shawn chitnis is live this morning and i understand you

>>reporter: yeah, we're told from firefighters that that five year old girl was in a closet hiding in the back side of the house on the second level. that's where the fire was strong so firefighters had to get the girl from the back side to the front side so that they could rescue her. she was taken to the hospital to get treated for injuries along with her dad but her dad was outside the house already. as you look at this video can see the extensive damage to the back side of the house. both the daugh to the hospital to get treated for their injury. two other people already outside of the house when firefighters were arriving. they were okay. it was around 12:30 when firefighters got to the scene and there was heavy fire coming from the back side and they got a quick handle on that. now the focus is on putting the house together and securing it because it's not in a state that anyone can stay in tonight or through the morning.

happening this morning. as for the cause we're told it likely happened on the back side of the house on the deck but there's still an investigation in place to figure out exactly what happened. live in lakewood, shawn chitnis, cbs4 morning news. we're hoping for good news today and the douglas county deputy hurt in a shoot out last week. the sheriff's office is expected to update us this morning on detective dan bright. jamie leary is live now. a man shot him near the middle school in parker last a lot of us are waiting for good news jamie. >> reporter: hopefully we'll hear that today. detective bright remains in critical condition. not only the sheriff's office but the district attorney's office and will dan's brother steve will be speaking and answering questions about the deadly shooting. detective bright was injured in a shoot out with a suicidal man last friday. he was 40-year old randall

his home and crashed his suv near the middle school where he was shot and killed by the deputy. an update on the investigation is still ongoing and we'll hear more about his condition and injuries from the trauma center medical director. we're told he's improving but still critical. there's been a huge outpouring of community support for the detective. his gofundme page had $36,000 raised and also can contribute to if you like. it's for families and victims critically injured or killed on the job. both links can be found on our westbound site. live from the parker adventist hospital, jamie leary, cbs4 news. new york calling its fifth nuclear test a success this morning saying it is now capable of mounting nuclear war heads on

broncos face the colts sunday the 18th. kickoff is right here on cbs4. a lot of people talking about linebacker brandon marshall who decided to kneel during the national anthem last night joining colin kaepernick in protest. marshall talked about his protest after last night's game. >> i'm not against the military or police or america. man of faith and i prayed about it long and hard and i feel like it's the right thing to do. colin kaepernick is my fraternity brother and ex-teammate and i believe in what he's doing and his actions so i definitely want to stand by him but at the same time, i didn't want to just take a knee but i'm also donating to programs for veterans and different things like that.

and be active in this. >> the broncos released this statement. we can soon learn the names of the two people killed in the kaes of road rage on 56th near pena. one of them was a good samaritan. police say two drivers came to a stop at an intse man got out and started pounding on the window of the other car. he walked in front of the vehicle and the driver hit him. seconds later there was another tragedy. >> the good samaritan saw what happened and ran over to render aid and both parties were struck by a third vehicle. >> the good samaritan died at a nearby hospital. police say the drivers involved in the crash are cooperating and

charges. we'll certainly follow up on that. won't be able to use a popular colorado hiking trail tomorrow. it's going to be closed for maintenance. crews are putting up barriers to protect a delicate wet land between the lakes and falls. so much more foot traffic going up to hanging lake over the past few years afrjts coming up next, the faa tells passengers not to use this type of phone during flights.

about half an hour before the real thing. >> thanks, jill. friday's top stories this morning. new surveillance pictures of who police think a man groped a woman in boulder. he assaulted here on sunday morning. she tells police the man grabbed her and she fought him off and he ran beneath an underpass. have a good look at that face boulder. don't use your samsung galaxy note seven on planes. this comes after complaints of the phone batteries catching fire. samsung is recalling the devices and the faa is asking people not to stow the phones in any checked baggage. this morning the general election is now less than 60 days away and the verbal attacks are not letting up. hillary clinton is calling

that was closing roads around civic center park. that was a great concert, great headliners as well. closures along bannic and 14th. they remain in place and now we're switching to the 9/11 remembrance concert. the closures will remain in place throughout the weekend. that's nothe as we head out across the denver metro area. a new accident in the southbound direction of i-25 causing quite a bit of slowing as well. then we're watching a weekend of a lot of closures. i don't think the rockies are home and the broncos aren't playing this weekend so they're going to take advantage to do some work along i-70 and i-225. we're breaking that down in just a bit. taking a look at damage from

cbsdenver.com. joel, how is it this morning? a great drive across the denver area. i should have hunter come do some traffic as well. speeds into the 20s and an accident at 84th and it's down to 104th. that's the hot spot. 12 minutes on the drive speeds down into the 40s. we're seeing stop and go traffic now on the approach to i-70. typical this time of day. another side street accident along i-225 and southbound speeds that are dipping into teens and into the 20s as you make your way from parker road down to the tech center. average speed through the stretch 30 miles per hour and a six minute drive now. loading up in both directions as you get behind i-25 and i-225 with speeds in the 40s. boulder swat teams are with respecting up a six hour stand off news breaking situation. this is 19th and this area north

on the ball. snap placement and it's wide left and the magic eight at sports authority field at mile high. the broncos hold on to win the season opener 21-20 against the carolina panthers in a rematch of super bowl 50. not always pretty for trevor siemian but he did enough to get a win. >> two turn overs and three for the total offense which obviously is something that gary kubiak was not happy about but he likes responded. he finished the day 18 of 26 and 178 yards and 1 touchdown pass. the broncos did a really good job helping trevor siemian out in his first start. lots of short passes and at the end of the day, a win is a win. here's what trevor siemian said after his first start and victory as a broncos quarterback. >> i knew we would have our hands full and it came down to the wire against these guys.

a nice drive for you making your way down through the bridge. we are seeing the slowing. an accident at 84th so 12 minutes on the drive out to i-70 and it's slowing down westbound along 76 speeds into the 30s. a little girl and her father barely escape a house fire in lakewood. shawn chitnis is live now near south kipling and west morrison to tell us we're told by west metro fire the five year old girl was hiding in a closet on the back side of the house. they had to get her to the front side to rescue her. she and her dad had to go to the hospital and get treated for smoke inhalation the dad was already outside at the time. take a look at the video that shows the extensive damage to the back side. that explains why firefighters

they said they were able to get a handle on the fire. in addition to those two, the daughter and the dad that were taken to the hospital there were two other people inside. they were already outside at the time and they are okay but of course now the challenge is taking care of the house and no one can stay in it at this point. there's a crew that's been here all this morning trying to secure and board up the house. still working on that for now. firefighters also telling us that while they are invest believe the fire started on the back side of the back deck of the house. waiting to learn more about that. live in lakewood, shawn chitnis, cbs4 news. thank you very much. we are expecting an update today on on the douglas county deputy hurt in a shoot out last week. a man shot detective bright at a middle school in parker last friday. the sheriff's office is giving us an update today. jamie leary is live there.

good news this morning. there's been a huge outpouring of community support for detective dan bright who remains here in critical condition. his brother steve plans to speak to the media to say thank you to the community not only that wut the sheriff is speaking here also. he plans to give us an update on the investigation which is still open. detective bright was injured in a shoot out with i man reportedly suicidal last friday. he was 40-year old randall who home and then fled in his rv before crashing it near the middle school where he was shot and killed by a deputy. the community stepped up to support detective bright. the gofundme page has reached nearly $36,000 this morning. in addition to that update, we're expected to be given an update as well from the director of the trauma city here at the hospital. he hopes to give us the latest on his condition and injuries.

say. >> the broncos released this statement. strong words from the pentagon this morning at north korea claims to have successfully tested a nuclear war head. leaders are calling it another violation of un security council resolutions. a former u.s. ambassador says this isn't a question of whether the test was done but about it. >> i think we have to sit down with countries like china and go through what could be conceivable options that was physically slow this thing down. >> a state department spokes person released a statement saying in part we are aware of the seismic activity in the vicinity of a known north korean nuclear test site that was measured by the information center in golden. a warning out this morning

bedroom of a 17-year old girl in arvada. police just released this video. it shows a man at the window of a teen's bedroom. he then tried to go to the front door here before returning right here to the girl's window. parents are now keeping a close watch. make sure that your children have their phone close by and tell >> the peeping tom has short hair and receding hairline and wearing dark plastic rim glasses at the time. a woman accused of stealing art from the woman she was working for and selling it online. >> reporter: the family was first notified by another care giver so they came here to wheat ridge police. detectives found several

including an 800 dollars sculpture. the artist was well known around the 1970s and award winning. but for the past few years her art was not for sale until police set up a sting operation. more than 500 pieces of art were stolen, probably closer to 600 pets and many of them have not been recovered. 51 year old shawn west is charged with theft from an at risk adult. the victim says they're furious and fee care giver they paid and trusted. west is still in jail. in wheat ridge, jeff todd, cbs4 news. crews in miami continue to fight the zika by spraying insecticides early this morning. there's growing controversy over the affects and has sparked protests over the city the past few days. some people don't like the insecticide.

new this morning, dozens of tourists are safe after dangling above the slopes of mount blank in the french alps. a series of cable cars got stuck yesterday. they were at an altitude of 12,000 feet at the time. 45 people including a ten year old child spent the night there in midair. rescue crews had a tough time because of the fog. what a night that was. nasa spacecraft is way to an asteroid this morning. it took off from cape canaveral last night. the united launch alliance built the rocket. >> osiris-rex begins it's 7 year mission to boldly go to the as troid bennu and back. >> what an awesome launch it was. it's going to take the

asteroid bennu. scientists say bennu contains carbon dating back 400-0000 years to the beginning of the solar system -- -- 4 million. >> how does this planet work and form? it will answer crucial questions. >> the goal is to bring back the largest bounty of space samples since the apollo moon rocks. new this morning a photo construction workers finished building the grand tourer in los angeles and they took a picture on top. this is the tallest building west of the mississippi river at 1,099 feet. the workers did have harnesses on the entire time but still makes me really, really nervous. >> yeah, gives you some vertigo there. who took the picture is what i want to know. skies are clear this morning. just gorgeous across the state.
