boulder, 60 in greenwood village. on the satellite we've got a couple clouds shooting from park county to jefferson county, so we may have passing clouds this morning mixed in the with the sunshine, but we'll have enough sunshine to warm up. fire danger is high in the foothills, just west of town. there's a red flag warning starting at noon until 8:00 today all the way up to estes park and some of those areas, so be careful if you're up there. at 9:00 a.m. we by noon, 90 degrees this afternoon. the record high is 92. so we're going to get close to the record, and then a big cooldown tomorrow that will last all week long. we'll talk about that coming up in a little bit. >> thank you. >> okay. new this morning, state patrol is investigating a two- vehicle crash that left a passenger with serious injuries. a driver was also hurt but their injuries are not known right now. csp says the crash happened last night around 10:00 in jefferson county.

in that crash. developing now, a man is in critical condition after opening fire on a deputy. the boulder county sheriff's office shared this picture of a patrol car. you can see the driver's side window was shot out. it happened along highway 287 in boulder county. jeff todd tells us about the investigation. >>reporter: it was around 5:15 saturday evening when the man was walking north and shouting at southbound traffic on highway 287. he's described as a 40s. >> he seemed very agitated as he was trying to pick fights with traffic passing by. multiple reports that he had a handgun. >>reporter: he is not believed to have any association with the only house in the area. it took several minutes for a veteran deputy to arrive. >> as she was arriving on scene, the man pulled the weapon and began to engage her with gunfire. there was an exchange of

consequently transported to a hospital where he's still undergoing treatment. >>reporter: the man is listed in critical condition. cdot kept highway 287 closed as a team came in to investigate. >> the man's motive or where he targeted the deputy is still unknown. we're expecting to find out more information on this case today. right now police are looking for answers after a woman is found shot to death inside an aurora apartment. this was the apartments near almeda and chambers yesterday morning. a resident called police after the finding the neighbor's front door open, and inside the officers found the body of a 29- year-old woman. no arrests have been made. a search is on for a man accused of attacking a bus driver. this is a picture of the suspect. the attack happened early thursday morning. lakewood police say when the driver asked the passenger to

attacked him. the suspect is described as black, 20 to 25 years old. new information on why jurors failed to reach a verdict in the western slope trial. berg feld was a single mother of three who led a secret life as an escort. lester jones was charged with murder. after weeks of testimony and four jurors were deadlocked. >> nobody in their mind thought there was -- that he didn't do something wrong, that he committed this crime. it's the fact that there was not enough evidence to get past reasonable doubt. >> the district attorney's office will refile the charges and go to trial again. today marks 15 years since

2900 people. most of the victims were at new york's world trade center where hundreds of first responders rushed into the towers and never came out. we talk with a father who used his grief to create a powerful tribute. >> this is the uniform a firefighter was wearing when he was killed in the collapse. a 29-year-old father of two, his memory lives here at the tribute center, along with other attack. >> this is a difficult space. >> this is a very difficult space. >>reporter: this is jonathan's father and a retired firefighter. he spent three months searching ground zero before he found his son's remains, and then continued combing the debris for victims for another six months. >> the best that humanity could give us was here searching every day, 24 hours a day, hands and knees.

a gathering spot for rescue and recovery workers. he eventually turned the space into the 9/11 tribute center until the official one opened in 2014. not only did it stay open, it will move to a bigger space next spring where it will continue to tell the story of 9/11 in the most personal terms. >> when i get to talk about my son, i cry. i can't say how many times i've cried this week. >>reporter: pouring himself into his work has helped him move forward, but it hasn't relieved the pain. >> the thing 9/11 means to me is i have not seen my buddy in 15 years, and i miss him. i have not seen my buddy in 15 years and i miss him. >>reporter: the tribute center

more kids see specific brands of alcohol, the more likely they are to drink underage and drink those brands in particular. >> flu season is almost here, but preventive measures are going to be more restriction this year than usual. >> the american association of pediatrics has updated its annual flu season guidelines. u the nasal spray vaccine was deemed sub par. everyone six months or older should be inoculated by october. according to the cdc, the flu kills up to 49,000 people per year. the recommendation against using flu mist was made over the summer. an advisory committee compared data against the standard flu

seasons. for now, the recommendation is an interim decision. it could be reversed next year when the panel reconsiders it with additional data. we have your forecast, a toasty day on tap. >> for sure. you know, i showed you the pictures of some of the aspens changing. the other sign that fall is around the corner is that we start doing those flu shot stories as well. beautiful shot. you can tell it's going to be hot day today. 53 is our current temperature out there now, and other readings across the state are cool depending upon where you are. in greeley, you have 39 degrees, so chilly. it's 57 at dia, 42 in aspen. we have a red flag warning for western colorado from south of grand junction all the way into craig, and also for some of the higher areas in the northern mountains of colorado.

low relative humidity, and the temperatures are going to be warm. so all of those mixed together are boosting that fire danger. noon until 8:00 today. there's a little bit of moisture coming in but not a whole lot. a few clouds drifting in from down south and there's a bit of moisture this morning coming in from utah, so western colorado might see a couple sprinkles during the early part of the day, but not enough to get rid of the fire danger. there's a cold front. you se monday and washington and oregon and that -- montana and washington and oregon. dropping our temperatures tomorrow and all the way through the end of the week. for today, by noon we'll have a few clouds, clouds forming along the front range, not much in the way of rain at all. high temperatures today, 80s and 90s out west, 70s in the

across the eastern plains. temperatures up in the 90s for us. in denver, 90 degrees should be the forecast high today. the record is 92, so a couple degrees away from a record today. 75 tomorrow, so dramatically cooler, it's going to feel like a slap in the face tomorrow at 75. slight chance of thunderstorms late, and then 67 on tuesday with a little better chance of picking up showers and storms. and then we keep the 70s rolling until wednesday and thursd cooling period. so this 90 we have today, there's a good chance that that might be the last one we have this year. we'll have to wait and see. >> i liked what you called it in our last hour. you said summer is giving us another punch in the face. >> oh yeah. that 90 degrees is going to be okay, you want me to go here. >> mother nature just cools us right off again. >> tomorrow is going to be a very good day.

>> the credit report industry is implementing significant changes to their businesses. equifax, experian and transunion must now facilitate the quick removal of errors from your report. this is important because credit information is used for more than borrowing and lending. landlords often use credit data to research potential tenants, and in some states it legal for prospective employers to check credit. the ubiquitous use of credit makes the accuracy all the more important. they'llthe firms will have to wait 180 days before adding any medical debt information to reports. when medical debts are paid by

just a couple minutes ago, denver police tweeted they do have a suspect at large. they do not have a suspect description. they are telling us the victim was a man. as we get details, we'll bring it to you on air and online. a death investigation is underway in adams county after a woman's body was found near 78th avenue and york street in thornton. we've learned there's a connection between that investigation and the search for a missing woman. >>i sitting here all week and hasn't moved. >>reporter: neighbors in this thornton complex say a suspicious suv has been sitting there since labor day. saturday morning, the sheriff's office found the dead body of an adult female inside. >> there was a bunch of cop cars and fire truck and ambulance and there was some crime scene tape around. >>reporter: the mother of 25- year-old hannah says the su

she's been missing since last sunday. >> i went to check the mail and i kind of saw something funny but didn't think about it. >> i didn't see anybody coming or going from it. >>reporter: her family says she was last seen one mile away. with little answers from authorities, schwartz says the incident has her neighborhood on edge. >> they have kids and they ride their bi wonder what kind of people are lurking around our neighborhood. >> the adams county sheriff's office could not elaborate on whether there's a suspect wanted in connection with the case. the circumstances of death are still under investigation as authorities wait for an autopsy. a new round of heated words between the presidential candidates after hillary clinton criticized donald

into adulthood. we caught up with one of those children of 9/11. >>reporter: before matt moved to new jersey, he finally did what he had long wanted, visited his father's name at the world trade center memorial. >> i just stood there for a while and let it come out. and i was like now i can go, now i can leave. >>reporter: the visit that finally helped him make peace with his father's death was 12 years r we first talked to matt as the first anniversary approached. he was a rebellious 15-year-old with big plans. >> i know my dad would want to see me succeed, he would have been happy to see me grow up and go through medical school and pass my classes and make a lot of money and be happy. >>reporter: how did that dream turn out? >> it turned out. >>reporter: today he is in his

practicing medicine have changed. he decided to become a family doctor. >> the moments of healing after my father's passing were in the people who approached me and said, man, this sucks, and sat with me. >>reporter: and you want to be that for someone else? >> yeah. >>reporter: matt says he found peace through daily meditation and yoga and annual letters to his dad. >> then i'd light fire. >>reporter: last september he wrote about his marriage to jamie. this year they're expecting a baby. >> i'm going to be proud to tell them about what kind of person their grandfather was. that's the foundation for this family that jamie and i are building together now. an annual volunteer day honoring 9/11 victims brings hundreds of people together

little bit cooler. we'll talk about that in a little bit. >> thank you. hundreds of people across colorado came together to volunteer for the 8th annual excel energy day of service. people took part in nearly 70 volunteer projects, and that included some of our cbs-4 staff. they rolled up their sleeves to help out the community. >>reporter: thornton century middle school gymnasium typically serves as a e pe or sports, but saturday was a site to serve the community. these assembly lines are staffed with hundreds of volunteers, including community leaders, cbs-4 anchor, and cbs- 4s weather team. they're all taking part in the day of service, a day dedicated to helping organizations across the state, like food banks and nonprofits. >> we've always volunteered. we really care about the

colorado feeding kids, and this year, more than 700 volunteers turned out to help package meals. >> today they're going to pack 150,000 meals and they'll be distributed to local food banks as we speak today. >>reporter: volunteers took part in cleaning up parks and trails. among the helping hand >> i think it's important because denver is such a great place and we have such wonderful people in our community. when we have a chance to give back, it not only does good for the people in the community, it does good for us too. >>reporter: that encouraged people across colorado to volunteer. >> you feel good when you do this and it brings out the best in everybody. >> it makes me feel amazing. i mean i love helping other people. right now we want to bring

says it happened yesterday afternoon on watson pond. officials say one boat spun out causing a pile up. all three drivers were ejected. tomorrow's cease fire is being ushered in by violence. intense air strikes yesterday killed at least 45 people. let's good ahead and take a turn to the weather and dave has your sunny forecast. >> we're going to have a mix of clouds and sunshine this morning. you can see it here on our rooftop camera as we look out to the west/southwest this morning. all things considered, it's going to be a hot, hot day for us today. we're at 53 downtown. some of the other temperatures we have going for you this morning, at fort collins it's 50. in telluride it's 51 degrees.

pressure over colorado and that front is going to create the westerly wind, so it will be breezy this afternoon, so that's going to kick the temperatures up. you can see we might get a mountain wave cloud forming along the foothills. we get that with a westerly wind with any moisture at all. if there's any rain, it will be most likely in the southwestern part of the state, and that won't be much as all. so a dry day for most of us. 90s across the easter and 90s out west. are you ready for the denver forecast high today? 90 degrees, it looks like, and the record high is 92, so we're going to be close to the record. mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies. tomorrow, dramatically cooler. 75 tomorrow. isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon. a better chance of storms on tuesday, and we drop down to 67 for the high, and wednesday and thursday we keep the 70s rolling on. so a prolonged cooldown here.
