hi everybody, good to have you with us, 4:30 right now. this is the news on cbs4 monday. the 12th of september. i'm alan gionet. >> and i'm britt moreno. we hope you had a great weekend. thank you for joining us this morning, let's find out about the forecast and get right over to lauren. good morning. >> well, good morning and let's take a look outside this morning. where temperatures are much warmer than they were yesterday at this time. by we have a front that's going to work through yesterday and that will knock the temperatures down quite a bit this afternoon but it's hot yesterday. we hit 90 degrees here in denver and 11 degrees warmer than yesterday at this time. 2 the degrees warmer in greeley and 20 in gray and 15 meeker and look at the temperatures right now we are sitting in the 60s. so it's a pretty nice start to the day. we'll be a little windy at times today and we're going to see a little bit more cloud

temperatures 69 in denver and 62 burlington and little cool in the high country 36 in leadville and 50 aspen and 54 over in grand junction. so on the satellite and radar you will notice some rain all the way near the grover area. a little bit of rain in northern colorado. not much at the moment. but we are looking at more possible later today so partly sunny to mostly sunny skies this morning. then we have the chance for some rain and some thunderstorms later today. and we will see temperatures down into the 70s. so we'll talk more about joel. the cones still up from a weekend of road work out there. they took advantage of the fact the broncos weren't playing this weekend. and it looks like they've got a lot of work done. this is the ramp from auraria/colfax. some lane restrictions replain in place this morning. of course that's not the only thing we have going on. as you can see across the denver metro area. that one closure that we had in the eastbound direction of alameda right as you get from santa fe out to cherokee, that

out of the way. alan? thanks joel. the crisis response team for the adams 12 five star schools is going to be at legacy high school this morning. after a deadly bus crash involving the football team. the bus driver died in the crash and two coaches are critically hurt and one seriously hurt. 15 students have what are described as nonlife itening injuries. this -- non-life-threatening injuries. this crash happened yesterday afternoon. the bus was leaving dia football team returning from game in california. it's not clear why but the bus driver made a second lap back to the east entrance of the airport and veered off the island of the road -- side of the road hitting a concrete bridge support. >> we've lost one of our own staff members this evening. and we're grieving over that loss. and but we're also going to

staff and students during the recovery and you know, their safety and their well-being is going to be our top priority in the days to come. to make sure that they have the appropriate supports. >> there were three bus loads of students and coaches coming back home at the time yesterday. and investigators are trying to figure out y happened. today, hillary clinton will not travel to campaign events in california. yesterday clinton was caught on camera having trouble getting into her vehicle after the 9/11 memorial ceremony in new york city. our hena daniels has the latest from the campaign trail. old was diagnosed with pneumonia on friday. although the illness wasn't publicly revealed until leaving the 9/11 ceremony at ground zero. clinton went to her daughter's manhattan apartment for a few hours after the incident and then headed to her suburban home not far from new york city. her doctor issued a statement saying -- >> reporter: donald trump has illness. but in the past, the republican nominee has repeatedly questioned whether his opponent has the strength to be president and the stamina to take on terrorists. he returned to the campaign trail after taking a day off to pay tribute to victims of the september 11th terror attack. the latest cbs news battlegrounds tracker poll shows the race is tightening in florida. clinton holds just a two point lead there. and in ohio, another key

hena daniels, cbs news, new york. >> clinton is being treated now with antibiotics. today donald trump gives a speech in baltimore in front of the national guard association of the u.s. and then heads to asheville, north carolina for an evening rally. a community came out to show support for an injured douglas county sheriff's detective yesterday with a prayer service and fundraiser in parker. dan bright was injured in a shooting ten days ago near sierra middle school. people were praying for him as he is in critical condition. >> reporter: what is the policeman? he of all men is a at once the most needed and most wanted. >> reporter: he was injured in the line of duty more than a week ago. sunday hundreds rallied around parker adventist hospital to pray outside douglas county detective dan bright's room. >> he charged in, ran to the fight, but he didn't stop. he was the first guy to go in and he was ready to do it. and the community knows that.

andrea flores reporting. also yesterday, hundreds of people lined up to get a cup of joe from the coffee cabin in parker. the business held a fundraiser for detective breti. every pen n -- brite. every penny earned is going to the detective and his family. investors are hoping to rebound from a down day on wall street. that ended last week as we get ready to start the new week. >> that was some pretty rough on friday. let's go to the floor of the new york stock exchange right now. jill wagner morning money watch. jill how are you? >> reporter: bracing for more volatility. on friday markets took a nosedive after a official says that there will be gradual interest rate hikes. the dow plunged on friday and the nasdaq sank and the futures are already reporting to a triple digit loss as the open for the dow. general motors is recalling more than 3.5 million vehicles in the united states to fix the

cases the car's computer can go into test mode which causes the front airbags not to inflate in a crash. several 2014 to to 17 models include -- 2017 models including some buicks and cadillacs are affected. it's linked to at least one death. amazon and pandora are launching new less expensive streaming services. $5 a month designed to undercut the more expensive streaming services from spotify and apple. how would you like to live in your own reportedly going on the auction block next month. it was built in 1989 with that familiar rounded portico. opening bids are expected to be in the $3 million range. alan and britt? >> not too bad if you asked me. >> some may love it. a lot of people -- >> i don't think i'd want to live in a house that looked like the white house. >> some people really fancy that right now. >> a lot of people want it. >> jill thanks. the broncos are getting

and they may have to do it without one of the team's main weapons. receiver demaryius thomas suffered an injury against the panthers last thursday. thomas hurt his hip in the first quarter on thursday and he was able to finish the game. espn reported yesterday that thomas had an mri on friday and the broncos are now sending it out for a second opinion. there is concern thomas could miss time so it's something to watch this week. receiver benny fowler missed the opener with and cody hat more dealt with a preseason knee injury. in a few hours our broncos' insiders will talk with head coach gary kubiak and we could find out more about the team's depth chart at receiver and you can get our complete coverage of the broncos at cbsdenver.com. >> a lot of things to look out for this week. >> oh, yeah. huge game. right now 69 degrees. >> only on cbs4, "dr.

this is the news in health are parents making mistakes with medicine for their children? a new study in journal of pediatrics suggests 858% of -- 85% of .s are making errors when giving liquid medicine to kids. researchers found most errors involved overdosing and that dosing cups are linked to more errors compared to oral syringes. using regular kitchen spoons also contributes to mistakes.

rise in soccer related injuries among children 7 to 17. researchers found about 300 children are treated every day in the e. r.. they looked at 25 years worth of data and found sprains, strains, and fractures were the most common injuries and that the rate of concussions significantly increased as well. doctors who advise women who have had gastric bypass surgery to wait 18 months before trying to become pregnant. have had that weight loss surgery are prone to nutrient deficiencies and a risk giving birth to smaller babies. as we get you started it's a monday lauren. we have monday-like weather? >> well, a little stormy and we have cooler temperatures as we head into the afternoon hours. a look at the temperature change even though we're warmer this morning than we were yesterday at this time we have a cold front that's going to come through knock us down bring us some storm chances so 13 degrees warmer in denver and

burlington so that puts us this morning at 68 here in denver and 67 here in boulder and 62 in burlington and high country 48 avon and 43 meeker and craig and 64 over in grand junction. now we have some rain skirting through the state right now. some near over in move it county and skirting through the northern part of the state. a little bit in larimer and weld counties this morning as well. we have a little bit of cloud cover out there but some clear skies mixed with cloud and we have a red flag warning for parts of move fete county into the little snake area and white river basin area. we have gusty winds expected today and also looking at very low humidity mixing in with some dry vegetation. we have increased fire danger today and looking at the futurecast for today mostly sunny to partly sunny skies throughout the morning hours. that little bit of rain that we have kind of moves on out throughout the morning hours and then we have a chance for some rain and some thunderstorms coming in this afternoon and even though the futurecast doesn't put them dead over the denver area, we do have a chance of those here for us in the city.

rain down into the southwest. going to skirt to the eastern plains overnight and by tomorrow morning, there could still be a few showers not northern part of the -- in the northern part of the state out west. some cloud cover to -- east. some cloud cover to begin the day and western slope a little bit more widespread tomorrow. some of these could last into the fright here across the -- night here across the front range. today 78 for us and 75 in greeley and boulder and fort collins. 77 in burlington and still hot in the southeast in the 90s. in the high country, mid-70s. and then 85 over in grand junction. if you're planning out the day today we have the little bit of cloud cover some sunshine this morning. and then we have a chance for some afternoon and evening storms. for your five day forecast, we are a little unsettled this week and temperatures tomorrow down to 67 and we're right back to the mid- to upper 70s throughout the rest of the week into the weekend. where we have a chance of afternoon storms. pretty much every day. let's check in with joel. good morning. hey good morning. watch from our mile high cam and you take a look there along auraria parkway some closures a little bit of road work going

morning. but it looks like all of the flashing lights that we've had at least have been cleared out of the way and hopefully they can get that reopened here in the next couple of minutes. and get some traffic moving on that again you've had to take 7th avenue down to colfax in order to access on to southbound i-25. ongoing road work along c-470. the earlier closure we had in the eastbound direction of santa fe -- excuse me alameda from santa fe out to cherokee, that's been moved out of the way as well this morning. and then we've got the road blocked off here along sherid a crash and incident there. as you go up into the high country, the closures that we had along u.s. 6 for the triathlon, those have all expired and out of the way. and that means that the hazmat vehicles britt, can take at the top of the hour, no more closures at the eisenhower johnson tunnel. >> great news joel thank you. some breaking news on this monday morning. a live look for you at what's happening here at 14th and sheridan. it's closed right now after a crash involving a denver police

inning. charles cobb blackmon goes deep. there in the tent, there's that 250th home run for reynolds. nice milestone for him and it helped the rockies win 3-2. afterwards reynolds with nice things to say about the future of the franchise. >> this seems to be really good new mexico coming year -- in the coming years. you know maybe not this year, but trying to win a lot of games in the future. we have a lot of young talent and a lot of good yo defense is unbelievable. and we have all the recipe for success here and it's going to be fun to watch in the future. >> rockies in arizona tonight.
