september storm watch! you can see the clouds building over the foothills from copter 4. and much of the metro area has already been rained on late this afternoon. >> there is a threat of storms tonight. >> and it feels like fall out there. chris spears is live in the mobile weather lab, and i see some clouds around you! >> reporter: we finally caught up with that rain sr 5:00. forecasting is like a recipe. you gotta have several ingredients. we've got moisture, we were lacking daytime heating. something you don't see, there's a big area of low pressure spinning out over nevada and utah. and that is just big enough it's keeping colorado in its unsettled flow of wind. and you can see here on doppler 4,000, there are pockets of

this forecast can bring some rain showers to most of us. we need it! unfortunately this is probably more of the scattered nature. but it does stay unsettled into the week ahead. we're in castle rock. chris spears, cbs4 news. >> thank you. new developments on a broncos protest. denver's top cop today to talk about the relationship between police and minorities. the meeting was called after linebacker xeeled during the national anthem at a broncos season opener on thursday. shaun boyd is live at mile high for us live, and you were hoping to catch up with marshall and talk to him >> reporter: he just arrived here to help out with a safety event for moms whose kids play football. so far brandon marshall has not talked publicly about his meeting today with the

and lasted about 45 minutes. >> i will tell you he's a have been respectful young man. i don't think he has any great ill will against law enforcement or the military. >> reporter: chief robert white says while he doesn't enforce marshall's decision to kneel during the national anthem, he isn't condemning it either. >> whether i agree or disagree is totally irrelevant. i think as a chief and a law enforcement to protect the rights of everyone as relates to the constitution >> reporter: the chief says regardless of marshall's agenda, he viewed the meeting as an opportunity. >> to listen to somebody else who has a voice, and they can perhaps impact other individuals as it relates to their concerns >> reporter: marshall's concerns aren't new. >> he's curious about officers getting involved in incidents that are controversial.

>> reporter: the chief challenged marshall to see firsthand what policing is like and improving community relations. >> it's the acknowledgement that there's a problem. now what you are gonna do to address it? it's always good to give money, but to spend some of his time talking to young people about making good decisions, not putting themselves in harm's way. this was an opportunity to move the ball forward. we can never address the issues that we're faced with if no. 1 we don't have respect for the other side. the table. and no. 2 if we can't find some common ground. >> reporter: chief white says he is putting together a list of ways that marshall can work with police starting with a ride along with officers. he has agreed to try out a training simulator. it it we can catch up with marshall tonight, we'll

an elementary school custodian behind bars accused of sending nude pictures to young students. jacob deal worked at sduch creek elementary and ken caryl middle schools in jefferson county. he sent sexually explicit images to a 13-year-old after finding her phone number on social media. het student reported that to school officials and they notified polic august 27th that she exchanged text messages with someone, and it turned out to be sexting, where the male was sending nude photographs of himself to this girl. >> investigators are investigating whether he might have had other contact with other opportunities. he is facing felony charges of internet sexual exploitation of a child. the latest on the legacy high school football team after several players and coaches were

friday's homecoming game will go on as scheduled. the school district made the decision with the help of parent, student, and football staff. the burdriver was killed in the crash, three coaches were seriously hurt. scammers taking advantage of the community's support for a badly injured douglas county deputy. detective bright was shot in the chest during a shootout with a suspect in parker earlier learned that scammers are using the detective's name to steal money. >> reporter: ever since detective bright was wounded, there's been a tremendous outpouring of support. scammers are using the detective's name to take your money. residents are not holding back their

>> reporter: douglas county detective dan bright was taken to the hospital in critical condition after being shot by a suicidal man in parker. as he struggles to recover, the community has wanted to honor the officer. scammers are trying to specialist money for a bogus fund in the detective's name. >> they scammed this wonderful man who tried to protect and serve. >> reporter: sergeant engel says at least six people have days. the sheriff's office will never come from over the phone. the calls are usually coming from overseas. >> there will be aggressive techniques utilized. >> reporter: danita sanchez has her hair and nails painted blue in honor of the detective. she has a real fund set up in his name.

>> you can see our town is hurting from this. >> reporter: she is asking all metro residents to hang up on the comofters. >> these people are giving from their hearts, and in turn they're just giving to some jerk who's trying to take their money. >> reporter: the sheriff's office says some residents have also received calls from a man claiming to be detective bright himself. bottom line, be careful, wary, and skeptical about giving any money detective bright is still in critical condition but is improving. a man in fort collins is facing first degree murder charges in the death of an 11-year-old girl. investigators say juan hernandez hit the baby with a chair last week. the child was the girlfriend's daughter. hernandez recently served three years in prison for

telling us all the good manufacturing jobs are being shipped overseas. they're wrong. manufacturing is thriving in colorado. the boss at one local successful company says some things have to change if the factory floors are going to keep humming. >> reporter: it's early afternoon on a weekday. the factory floor is humming like this 24/7 at primus aerospace in lakewood. the products made here in commercial and military aircraft are f world. from landing gear to cargo bays to the seats, even improved tray tables like the one employee alex melnar is designing here. >> this is the start of what will be a hydraulic reservoir. >> reporter: randy brother-in-lawsky has owned primus for 18 years. he and his employees will produce revenues of $50 million. >> i do think colorado

hard ethic. and that real helps us stay competitive when we're doing what we need to do every day. >> reporter: only 10% of the workers on the manufacturing floor have 4-year college degrees. but with community college and on the job training, many are making upward of $80,000 a year. >> i took some community college classes to learn the software that we use to program the parts. i was fortunate to work with people that were very helpful. >> reporter: the number of manufacturing grew by 12%, between 2010 and 2015. with the average pay last year of nearly $67,000. brodsky says the jobs being lost overseas are the low-tech and low paying ones. he says we can help jobs here by helping small businesses invest in animation

to get these kids into college looking at manufacturing as a career, and studying manufacturing as a degree. something that we lost a long time and we've got to start getting that back. >> especially exciting time for the company. primus is on the verge of a game-changer for the company and airline passengers. it's gonna be introducing a new airplane seat that can move aside and create aisles that are thee times wider than what we're used to. really a breakthrough. and the company says it could be worth $50 million a year to primus. and imagine how many jobs that will create. >> incredible. can't wait to try that.
