good morning. this is the news at 6 am. a pilot diverts a plane to dia. parts -- passengers told to get off on the tarmac. you could face delays on sixth avenue for bridge repairs. video shows the big backup during the evening rush hour. a live look from copter for. we talked a little bit of a cooldown. maybe isolated storms. let's find out. i am alan gionet. i am britt moreno. le beautiful outside right now. this is a clear start today. off to a sunny start in denver but still fog in some spots in cooler temperatures to the. 47 in grand junction, cold front working through. 40 aspen, 37 gunnison, steamboat and craig and meeker below freezing. 51 in denver, 50 boulder. 53 burlington. fog and thunderstorms in a moment.

the approach to 36. that is a spot where it will be tricky and tough and we have an accident. slowing developing on i-76 eastbound and the morning commute underway. crews are back at it on sixth avenue to fix construction equipment damage on the i-70 overpass in golden. this got hit hard this week. that has met big delays. i was in a traffic jam there. >> reporter: good morning. this is the indiana street exit. things are looking good. i will step out of the way. you can get a look at the work in the distance. as you were mentioning in the afternoon the traffic jam really came back to where we are about a mile away from all of

that is something that drivers will want to get ready for as this continues to go on on the second day. work starting at 4 am. we will continue into the evening. let's take another look at how bad it was in the afternoon on wednesday. a lot of folks not ready for this because it did have to go all the way back a few miles. cdot reducing the traffic down to one lane and that could be the case today. they were tweeting yesterday this would be multiple let's look at the photos that explain why this happened. over the weekend a semi was carrying construction equipment that could include this bridge and it had part of it taking a piece off of it. these emergency repairs are needed. cdot explaining their unable to do this -- not able to do this during the day. because of materials and safety reasons. drivers will have to deal with this for one more day.

on sixth avenue. live in golden, china -- shawn chitnis. a united airlines flight was diverted to dia for a possible security scare. the plane did make it safely to san diego but passengers had to do board for 2 1/2 hours while the plane was searched. 1243 form new work when a passenger saw an item the pilot landed at dia. scott letting took this photos -- photo as passengers got off. police searched the plane but they did not find anything. passengers loaded back onto the plane to continue to san diego. mesa county share of apologizing for entering the wrong home during a drug raid

innocent family with young children inside. they said they got a tip about methamphetamines and guns but the suspects once lived at that address but have since moved. the sheriff apologized and is replacing the windows and repairing the front door and installing carpet. the sheriff is a promising to evaluate what happened and preventing this. a wildfire threatening about a dozen homes in the high country. the core which fire in grand county has burned 35% contained this morning. the fire started tuesday afternoon and crews say there is no threat to the town of crumbling. fire danger dropping in boulder county thanks to cooler weather and rain. the fire van is dropped. you can have the campfire but put it out fully. traffic and weather every 10 minutes. let's take a view right

welcome back. this is the news. school districts can now decide whether to offer soda to students. the latest decision from the colorado board of education. a policy will continue to restrict unhealthy drinks during afterschool activities for grade levels. it will also sodas at elementary schools. the latest ruling will give districts time to implement the rules before the beginning of the next school year. researchers are looking into a possible link between long naps at higher risk of diabetes. they find people who sleep more than an hour each day are 45% more likely to develop type ii diabetes. experts are trying to learn if daytime sleeping is a symptom or a cause. making some older homes

this is i-70 and i 25, known as the mouse trap. i think you will like this. 10 minute drive from 120th to i- 70 with speeds in the 50s. dipping to the 40s now. westbound i-76 into the 40s. let's go to us 6. westbound. we still have lane closures in place and right shoulder and right lane as you travel eastbound but now we've added lane closures this was a mess on the evening commute yesterday as the right shoulder gets five. i recommend all the way back at sam's -- simms from colfax, also i-70 from colfax as well. if you want to wait around for the evening commute. you have to wait and that mess.'s e-470 northbound, you have some delays to the south of 285. we've seen delays in the south direction as well.

he had multiple anti-islamic posts on his social media accounts. people in cheyenne are asking for prayers after a deadly shooting at a senior living apartment complex. a 77-year-old man shot three people yesterday and one of them died. the gunmen armed with a handgun and a rifle ran down the street and shot and killed himself as police officers approach. people who live there said he was angry about frequent poker games and the buildings common area. remains in the hospital after the bus crash at dia. doctors are still looking at serious injuries. other coaches have been released. wayne voorhees and kyle writer. the school bus driver died when she drove a bus into a concrete pillar at dia. 50 members of the legacy high school football team were heard. tomorrow's homecoming game is still on. whether the weather watcher

see potentially severe weather today in nebraska and kansas. we are mild in the northeast, tropical storm julia down in the carolinas. off the coast just enough. some high surf and riptide areas but may not bring quite as much rain as was expected as it moved out just more. no major delays. waiting time at dia is less than 20 minutes. a major delay for folks yesterday in the evening commute and it's starting again. repair work on the bridge at us 6 on i-70. they have to close off everything but the right shoulder. it's a mess for drivers as they had single file. there is an accident in the northbound direction of i 25, excuse me, northbound. this car is a rollover near mead so they will try to zoom in for us and give us a better look.

to retake control of them. not the only trouble spot as we have a few areas of trouble southbound. eastbound looking great as you travel along i-70. average speeds into the 50s. e and f, 30 minute delays on those lines as you had northbound into bellevue because of a train malfunction. new video of the heroic rescue in north carolina. a bus failed to yield and crashed head-on with the pickup in winston-salem. the impact it sparked a fire and trapped the driver earlier this week. neighbors and police officers rushed in try to help and they used a fire extinguisher to contain the flames. firefighters arrived and pulled the driver to safety. uber is trying the wave of self driving cars, part of a test program in pittsburgh. they picked up first passages

37 craig. 31 leadville. we talk about temperatures and storms in a moment. a few trouble spots as part of the commute. a car that has rolled from the cdot camera in the northbound i 25 at mead. a portion of the ramp is blocked but the car is in the ravine. across denver metro, accident on 225 at yosemite. an accident on 100 for that i 25 in as you get to highway 85. it is slow as you make your way into town eastbound on 270. it is slowing down westbound on i-70. slow going for drivers on sixth avenue. the repairs led to some big backups for the evening yesterday. shawn chitnis is joining us now for a look at how traffic is moving this morning. >> reporter: good morning.

this time. i will step out of the way so you can get a sense of what we're talking about. this is the work happening on the bridge and you can just start to see that single lane of traffic starting to build up and that will only get worse here as the morning progresses. another look at what it was like yesterday. it was really bad in the afternoon. a few miles of this because of what happened over the weekend with the semi having a construction piece of equipment on it hitting the bridge and causing coming up we will have more on what's going on and how long you will have to deal with this and a look at the delays as they start to build up. shawn chitnis, cbs4. today a judge will sentence the man who impersonated a police officer and assaulted a woman in denver. laura state offered a ride to a woman last year in october and

badge. the woman was able to get away. police arrested him later. a semi driver is cited for careless driving for crashing into a winery and destroying it. charles constant was on 285 when he crashed tuesday morning. aspen creek cellars lost its entire supply of wine. some of it flowed into a creek. people say crow hill is notorious for big rigs losing control for several tropical storm to develop in florida rather than the ocean. this is juliet, now a tropical depression. there is flooding and power out and it will turn slowly off the coast to now of georgia and south carolina for the next a few days. a powerful typhoon has swept into eastern china after hitting taiwan. it swept with top winds equivalent to a category 5 her a gain.

it is taking people down and has killed and injured people in both countries. there goes the roof right there. officials in taiwan say that typhoon has knocked out power to 1 million homes and people have no clean water. strong winds caused this, it looks like a giant grape but it is a large inflated balloon that rolled down the streets of china. a lot of people were caught off guard. it was a moon balloon. part of a display to mark the mid-autumn festival but that is not a celebration right there.>> like a scene from a movie. for the real moon the full moon will be tonight. we have a harvest moon. clear skies. send great pictures our way. clear skies in denver and off to a nice start.

the right lane gets by the and we're seeing backups. i recommend access to us 6 using colfax. you come down over the hill and that you have all the traffic that needs to get to the right. it's a mess and you can access onto i-70. that is my recommendation. here we are across denver metro, accident southbound. the other at 148th avenue. on 225 at yosemite. mississippi closed east of santa fe to broadway. we have been watching rollover accidents. that is a car in the ravine so they have to get that moved out of the way and has blocked off the rent. this is i 25 as you get to need. flying to dodd city and liberal kansas is getting easier. leaders with pen air and dia are now announcing nonstop service today.

shawn chitnis his life to show us with happening now. are the signs of progress?>> reporter: we are starting to see that delay pick up the let's show you what is happening and how this started going to the bridge. that is the i-70 bridge on sixth avenue. that is why this is happening because of the accident that happened with this part of the bridge and a piece of the bridge coming off and therefore the need for emergency repairs. second day of repairs starting at 4 am. around 6:45 am we're seeing that delay pick up from there all the way to where we are by the indiana street exit. in mile of now single lane traffic forming as folks try to make their way on sixth avenue. this is what we saw yesterday. it was a lot worse than folks
