we'll have a ground crew on-scene very soon. a brush fire burns dangerously close to homes. firefighters spraying water on it from a roadway there. >> the fire was raging for a time west of quebec near 136th. the flames getting up to abd ground for us tonight in thornton. >> take a look. we're in our backyard right now. they were preparing to pack up their stuff and leave their home because the fire got so close. we're on their back deck, and you can see behind me, the fire rhine is about 100 yards from their backdoor. can you imagine why they were prepared to avocado. things are of course contained now. take a look at this incredible video from copter 4,

according to thornton fire officials. it was moving flames in all directions. the family we spoke with says the smoke was so thick, their response was to pack up their belongings and prepare to leave. crews were able to stop the flames before any evacuations had to be issued. crews are mopping up holl spots. -- hotspots. we'll let you know if we get any updates from thornton fire. more breaking news on this friday. the search underway for a driver who hit a cyclist then left the scene. it happened on 94 centennial. a grandmother taken

two men conned their way into her denver home then stole precious gems from behind her back. they posed as denver water workers. >> in reality they were thieves. she wants people to know her story to protect themselves. >> well, i usually don't invite anybody in. but they said we're from the water department. >> reporter: they said she needed to check her water pipes for lead. this time it's something she regrets. then the men asked martinez to show him her backyard. >> she started to worry about the running water. >> i had to go back. >> reporter: they tried to keep her outside because another man had slipped inside looking for valuables. >> as soon as i got to the

campaign in miami tonight. we want to get back to breaking news. shots heard at roesz medical center. >> reporter: we're here on clairemont between 8th and 9th where one of the roadblocks is. this is what's keeping us from get anything closer to the hospital on the southwest side of rose medical center. we can see a lot of patrol cars here as well as an ambulance that is place, keeping folks from getting closer to their homes or the other businesses or park garage at this spot. they are looking into a report of shots heard. and we have seen police on the roof. one man came to pick up his wife, he was unable to get to her before this robot was put in place.
