we'll have more on those stories in a moment, but first, let's get a check on the weather. >> good morning. it's your last sunday of the summer season. if you go up into the mountains, look at breckenridge. that's 27 degrees. on the satellite, you can see on the front range, mostly clear skies, will be mostly clear this morning, and, of course, the big day today if you're going to the bronze game, kick off is at bronco game.

we want to get to our top story this morning. there was an owes o explosion in new york. there is after one explosion went off last night and 29 people were hurt. police found two suspicious devices. this is a live look at the debris scattered there. the victims are going to be okay, but they believe the blast kenneth craig has the latest from new york. >> reporter: bomb-sniffing dogs searched for evidence, after an explosion rocked the heart of new york city saturday night. witnesses say the blast was so powerful it shook buildings and sent people running for cover. >> i heard boom. i thought it might be fireworks, but it was so loud, and it just went through my whole body. >> reporter: witnesses say the

posted pictures of shattered glass on their facebook pages. over two dozen people were injured here, but right now, their injuries don't appear to be life threatening. >> saw a guy bleeding. >> reporter: where was he bleeding from? >> from his head, right here. >> reporter: the mayor of new york tried to calm fears of terrorism, but said it was an intentl point of a terror connection to this incident. >> reporter: the explosion comes less than a be week after the 15th anniversary of 9-11. an nypd said too a second device was found four blocks away from the initial explosion scene. investigators say it appears took pressure cooker are attached to wiring and a cell tone. that device was removed safely.

today, and they are urging new yorkers to avoid the area. just about 45 minutes away from that scene, an equity of explosion in seaside park new jersey, this one anticipated during a marine corps charity race. the blast happened just as runners were due to pass a trash can yesterday morning, but the race started late, saving anyone from being hurt. >> that was actually a very been delayed, we would have been running by where the explosive device was. >> the fbi is investigating. they would not say whether they believe the incident was terror- related, or if the race was targeted. back here at home, friends and family of a 16-year-old girl are mourning her death. haley vargas was shot and killed during a party in thornton early yesterday

shooter. >> it's the worst thing i've ever experienced. >> reporter: emotions ran high at a prayer vigil as friends remembered haley vargas, the an attorney they say was shot and killed at a party overnight. >> talk to her every day, and now it's like i have that part of my missing. >> reporter: teens tells us the party was cut short just before 2:00 a.m. >> some guy just started shooting in the house, and everybody started running to their cars, and i seen street. >> reporter: two sisters who did not want to be identified tried to keep vargas alive until police got to the scene. >> nobody was helping her, so we just couldn't leave. >> i got my friends shirt and wrapped it around my hand and tried to stop the bleeding. >> reporter: vargas's friends

students. a young man who touched a lot of lives, just a generous, wonderful person. >> the school said it is working to organize a vigil for reese. he was 18 years old. witnesses tell us a blow pain tank exploded, causing this -- propane tank exploded, causing this fire in aurora. no injuries were reported. right now, fire investigators want to find out what sparked a fire at a storage facility in smart self storage near i225 and 6th avenue yesterday. nobody was hurt, but four units do have major damage. you can see why. >> well, tonight, cbs is launching a series focusing on the death of jon benet ramsey. we spoke with the producer and the investigator looks into the case. >> reporter: how did all of this come together? >> jim came to us five or six

frustrated. as one of the original investigators on the case, he hadn't been able to investigate it the way he wanted to. >> reporter: he put together a dream team of forensic experts to dissect the evidence. >> there's tons of evidence in this case. and what it needed was a comprehensive look from all sortth of different professional perspectives. >> reporter: the team even built a republican liuka of the house, focusing on rooms critical to the >> we're using behavioral analysts to actually deacon instruct the crime, reverse engineer it back to the type of person to commit the crime. ? of course win of the key suspects, patsy ramsey has passed away. >> what would each of you ask her, if you could get win question. >> i would ask her for exactly whatever she remembered about the initial moments when she found that letter on the staircase.

new dedates about a stabbing attack that sent at least 8 people to a minnesota hospital. police say the attacker was dressed in a private security uniform and made references to allah. this all happened at a mall in st. cloud. >> we do know there is no imminent threat right now to the citizens of st. cloud, but we are still investigating, and the crossroads ma will be closed until further now advertise. >> police declined to call that attack an act of terrorism. the u.s. military says it might have unintentionally killed more than 60 syrian troops in a series of air strike opinions officials say the raid was intended for ivy. the u.s. and russia have been fight on opposite sides of the war in syria, but recently agreed to a ceasefire tow allow

whole area has a red flag warning in effect for high fire danger. so from noon to 8:00 p.m. today, for the gusty winds, dry conditions, and heat, and it extends to fort come weres and all of southern wyoming, as well. so watch out for the fire danger up there. it's kind of high. i have a cold front over northern wyoming. high pressure down to the south, and the pressure gladeient right over northern colorado and southern wyoming. that's going to be a down sloping wind for us, temperatures will boost up today as that high moves out over colorado and new mexico today. that will keep those cold fronts up to the north, as well. so that's also the reason it's going to be so warm today. we're looking at 80s and 90s here. we'll insure the 80s and 70s out west. look at that, craig, miker, moab, and durango, all in the 80s today. here is the broncos game forecast.

83 halftime -- 85 at kickoff time. 83 at halftime. 80 in the fourth quarter. 88 tomorrow. we keep the 80s rolling all the way through thursday, and thursday is the first day of fall, and it happens at 8:21 in the morning, and we might pull out a few isolated thunderstorms by then. you can't tell on the map there, but by the time we get to friday, saturday, and sunday, with that front that comes through on thursday, we're going mid-60s for highs. so next week will definitely feel like fall. well, it seems bruce springsteen was born to run. he's been on the road for most of the year, but anthony mason managed to catch up with him at his home in new jersey.

good morning. i would love to be talking about the rockies this late in september because they're in play-off contention, but we'll have to settle today for a record-bricking performance from john gray. gray on the mound last night. he got plenty of run support. no one crushed one in the first. murdoch had two home returns. but it was 16 shades of gray last night, as he broke the rockies strikeout record with 16 strikeouts in the game.

poll on cbsdenver.com. law makers in washington want to pull the plug on so- called ticket robots. that's the software that scoops up coveted tickets at major concerts and sporting events before anyone else, and then brokers resell them at high prices. congress has proposed a bill to end that practice. >> reporter: the producer of the hit musical hamilton im slamming the scalpers who used ticket robots as computerized cheaters. >> every time we put a new block of tickets on seal, the robots have invaded the ticketmaster system the second they went on sale, and electronically purchased almost all of the available inventory. >> reporter: that's what drove ticket prices into the thousands, and led the show's creator to call for a crackdown last month.

>> the ramp from westbound i- 70, to south bound i-225 reopens tomorrow. so for one night, your alternate is airport to 6. the ramp from eastbound arapahoe road also reopens tomorrow morning at 5:00. crews are realigning traffic on northbound i-25 over arapahoe road. when it does reopen, expect double right lane closures northbound i-25 for are the morning commute. i'll be watching that starting at 4:30 tomorrow morning. and still ahead, although it feels a little like summer, things are a bit different in the high country. we'll tell you where you can go to check out the fall colors that are happening right now. let's go ahead and take a look from our tech be center camera. you can see, not a lot of traffic out there on this sunday morning, but that's sure to change when the broncos game

cdot is testing out a new tool to use when gathers data on traffic congestion. crews put a high tech drone to work this weekend. we caught up with some of the engine ears behind it to see what it can do to monitoring traffic. >> colorado's department even transportation is getting a bi's >> you can legally fly, and it you can see 37 miles. >> reporter: as part of an faa approved test. cdot along with uavu flight operations are using this six- prop drone to check out road conditions. >> so right now we have the camera locked on i-25 here. >> with a major concert happening at the air force academy, tens of thousands of cars are expected to pack the

colorado spring. this drone will help monitor traffic using its camera and 30 types zoom with video feeding back to cdot and law enforcement. that essentially allow this drone to fly for an unlimited amount of time, while also keeping it in a zone. >> so we're never flying over traffic or schools, never flying objective anything that could be of any use to any personnel. >> reporter: instead of stationary cameras mounted on polls or pricey helicopter right ins, experts say drones like this will provide more accurate and cost effective traffic monitoring for cdot. >> anytime there's an accident or an emergency, or even a road repair, they can just pop this up, take the pictures, manage the traffic situation.

47 in winter park right now. the >> gusty winds, warm today, because so it's breezy up there in the foothills of the mountains. a cold front in wyoming, and a pressure gradient right in between, right over northern colorado here. this high should be strong enough to hold those cold fronts up north. so as it spreads out along the colorado and rocky mountain region, a flat ridge of high pressure, it will deliver warm temperatures today, tomorrow, all the way into the middle of next week. we're looking at 80-degree readings.
