good morning, everyone, i'm britt moreno. we're all coming off the big broncos win. we're excited about that. this is the news at 5:00 on this monday, september 19th. here's what's happening now. on the dr. phil show. a preview ahead. an explosion going off as police are trying to dearm what they say is a suspicious device in new jersey. coming up, the fbi's perspective over what is happening. that big news out of new york coming this morning we're

forecast first. fall is not yet here and it feels like summer today. lauren whitney tracking the warm temperatures, good morning. let's take a look at what's happening this morning. 34 in craig and 36 in gunnison and 33 in alamosa. 62 at dia and 52 in burlington. right now we're going to joel for the drive. those weekend projects have been hampering the project along arap arapahoe and westbound at i-70 and i-225 have been picked up but there's remnants of that. look for lane realignment lasting throughout the week on arapahoe road. in new jersey one of five suspicious packages exploded overnight and nearby in manhattan 29 people were injured

the day before. police are trying to determine if these explosions in new jersey and new york city are connected and this comes as there were three violent events in three major cities over the last few days. >> reporter: terror investigations is now underway in the saturday bomb blasts in new york and new jersey and the stabbing spree at a shopping ll it began saturday morning in seaside park, knowledge knowledge. likely timed to disrupt a marine corp. charity run. >> an explosion occurred in a trash can along the raceway. >> it had been delayed due to registration problems. >> no reports injuries or deaths as a result of that explosion. >> reporter: saturday night another blast, this time in new york. the explosion reportedly coming

sending bystanders running for cover. >> everybody get off the street! let's go. >> reporter: 29 injured and all released from hospitals. investigators found an undetonated pressure cooker device blocks away. the same man is near both locations on surveillance videos. >> that suspect was confronted by an off duty police >> reporter: the isis media wing claiming responsibility for the minnesota stabbing attack. investigations continuing in the other attacks. brandon marshall continued his protests yesterday. rick sallinger was at the broncos game and got reactions from fans about marshall sitting out the anthem. 0. >> reporter: there were cheers

>> it's a national conversation and people say it will divide our nation but i think the opposite. >> in the locker room after the game marshall was asked about next week and he will keep up the protests and he said i can't tell you, not sure. let's get a check out now on monday's weather and traffic situation. good morning, starting off with mellow temperatures across the front range and eastern plains. 48 in greeley.53 mountains. 33 in gunnison this morning and 34 in craig and 53 degrees in grand junction. our winds right now are calm but getting breezy later on today and on our satellite and radar for the most part we're clear but a few clouds out there this morning. taking a look at our hour by hour forecast, temperatures in the low 80s this afternoon and the 90s this afternoon. just overall hot and sunny.

the weekend construction projects picked up and moved out of the way. here's a look at i-25 this morning. nice and wide open is what we're seeing across the denver metro area. a mess along broadway. ongoing road work along c-470 and a couple side street trouble spots as you get to sheridan and louisiana and then rain street and kentucky as there'sover night police activity. pueblo police looking for a young mothe be in danger. they were last seen together last thursday in the pueblo area in a red 2013 mazda two with a colorado temporary plate of a-109832. dr. phil wraps up his exclusive interview with the brother of jonbenet ramsey. he's breaking his 20-year silence about the murder of his

welcome back. we're learning about new developments in the murder of a young mother of five in westminster. the suspected killer is now in custody. 32 year old roxanne holge nexte was found shot in her home. her husband is in custody arrested on unrelated warrants

her ex-husband is asking for the community's help to bury her. >> i've never seen my son that sad. he's expressed to me for us to be able to have a good burial for his mother. >> so far the family has been unable to afford her burial. they set up a gofundme account in hopes of raising money. we have a link to that page on our website, cbsdenver.com. fallen firefighters were honored in a ceremony in colorado springs. 123 names were added to the memorial. the wall of honor now has the names of 7400 firefighters who died in the line of duty or due to chronical illnesses linked to the fire service. five colorado firefighters were honored this year including john wheelen working a fire last year in denver when he fell through a skylight. he died two weeks after that

temperatures for september and here's lauren to talk more about that. >> yeah, it's warm outside again. yesterday in the upper 80s and today could hit the low 90s. 62 in denver. 61 in boulder. 58 in akron. 39 degrees in avon and 37 in leadville and 53 in grand junction. our cold spot this morning is alamosa with 33 degrees. winds are calm but expect a breezeat here across the front range and out east. looking at the sart a few satellite and radar a few clouds. high pressure over oklahoma keeping us on the dry side. rain in parts of minnesota and dakotas and northeast. you'll notice the time is ticking away today and we're looking at mostly sunny skies

afternoon and evening. overnight tonight we will see more clouds streaming into the area so by tomorrow morning a bit more cloud cover to the west and we have a chance for a little bit more rain and heavier rainfall and thunderstorms down into our south western could rememberer tomorrow afternoon and evening. still on the partly cloudy side through most of the day tomorrow. 91 degrees in denver. 89 in greeley and 89 in burlington. 79 in eagle today and 80 in sunglasses today because it will be sunny. temperatures are in the 90s by this afternoon and slowly cooling down throughout the rest of the week. 88 degrees tomorrow and thursday is our first day of fall. cooler on friday to the 70s. joel, how is the morning drive? >> a great start this morning. a victory drive down through town. southbound along i-25, plenty of space between the cars.

led to the crash. the husband says the coroner told her she had an enlarged heart and may have had a heart attack. his wife had no known health issues at the time of the crash. bus drivers are required to undergo a department of transportation medical exam every two years and she passed the physical exam back in may. she was a grandmother and mother to four children. she had been working for the district for four years and she absolutely loved her job. the memorial church is open so anybody can come and pay their respects. that starts tonight at 6:00. there's a gofundme page set up and find a link to that on our website. it's raised $25,000. no official cause for the crash has been released at this point in time. live in thornton, jamie leary,

good morning, welcome back. the fbi is other law enforcement have converged early this elizabeth, new jersey. this after five pipe bombs were found near a new jersey transit station in the city last night. this morning authorities are focusing their attention on a building with business and apartments above it. it's not clear yet whether this is connected to the discovery of the pipe bombs. one of the suspicious devices found in a trash can exploded

another suspicious device was found this morning in union square in manhattan. the nypd has since cleared that scene. stocks are open this morning and there could be movement when it comes to gas prices across the country. consumer prices moved higher last month. the consumer price index increased 2% in august. despite food and energy prices remaining unchanged, one driver of the higher costs are medical bills with the in 32 years for one month. stocks closed with a down day on friday, falling 88 points the dow and nasdaq five. the department of transportation says motorists drove 287 billion miles in july, that's 2% more than last year and puts 2016 on pace to be a record year for driving as gas prices remain low. the cheap ride could be slowing for drivers in the southeast though because of a

girl who hid in a closet during a fire in her hom is still in the hospital. ahead, how her friend is trying to help out. several people have been taken into custody in connection to the bomb blast that rocked this chelsea neighborhood. i'm hena daniels in new york and i'll have the latest on the investigation, coming up. the broncos know how to win close games which is good because even when it seems like team, it somehow ends up being a close game. hot afternoon at mile high yesterday. weren't sure if thomas would play against the colts. he did and had a big play early. broncos only scored one touchdown on offense in the second quarter. broncos led 13-6 at half. thard quarter demarcus ware collided with miller and fractured his elbow. broncos not sure if he's going to miss time.

quarter, broncos up three when aqib talib picked off andrew luck and took it back for his 9th career pick six fifth since coming to denver. that's a broncos record. colts back within six and they had the ball but von miller was like a play out of the super bowl play book. stribs back and broncos win 34-20 and now they are 2-0. >> two in and we have a long way to go but there's a lot of encouraging things from young players and still win a big game. you have to do that in the nfl. it's going to happen so we have to stay focused on what's going on. we have to do it on the road against a great team. we have to stay hard on ourselves and keep getting these young guys better and be as good as we can possibly be and we're definitely not there yet. >> broncos at cincinnati next

good morning, you're taking a live look at elizabeth new jersey. the atf and fbi are raiding a business there. not many details on what's happening but there's a lot going on around new york city this morning. it's unclear if it's connected to a suspicious device that exploded near a tran station in elizabeth early this morning when a bomb squad robot was trying to disarm it. a bunch of pipe bombs found in

coming up. i'm alan gionet. >> and i'm britt moreno. let's get get to lauren now. summer is here and going to feel like it today. yes, we're in the final days of the summer season but it's going to feel like we're in mid july right now. clear skies to start the day. a few clouds in parts of the foothills but that's it. we're talking about heat and a cool down coming up in a moment. hey, it's a great drive across the denver metro area. on the highway we're crash and stall free and speeds into the 50s and 60s traveling both directions through commerce city. passengers stuck last night on a plane that veered off the runway at our airport. they're safe this morning in reno. the flight landed up in a grassy area. passengers tell us the brakes failed and the pilots had to use the emergency reverse engines.
