covering this story since 5 am. what is the latest? >> reporter: the fire chief told me he is getting closer to nailing down a cause. he said when they arrive on scene, they normally look for a v pattern and that often leads to the origin of the fire. preliminary evidence has led them to believe that it started outside of a bottom floor unit. the one you're looking at right now is the one in question. many people who live here have been coming by able to see the damage of clothes for the first time. >> this used to be my apartment here in j 104. what is left of it. it's quite a scene. >> reporter: the fire broke out yesterday afternoon around 4:00. more than 75 firefighters from four agencies responded to the blaze and the search for people who may have been trapped

there were dozens displaced who are now facing the hard reality of where to go and what to do next. >> i came rushing as soon as i saw smoke. it was really sad to see that. now, we can't go in there so my problem is where to find an apartment and we are fairly new in the city and the country as well. >> sad. i don't know what i have or what i don't have. as far way it's going to be. that means i lost everything. truck seven people were injured and we are told their injuries are minor. red cross is assisting with asic means. cunningham fire has been able to narrow down an origin of the fire but say it will be a

jamie leary, cbs 4 news. >> thanks a lot. an assistant pastor and thornton is now charged with sexual assault on a child. robert duane why it was -- why it -- wyatt is accused of assaulting a 14-year-old girl two years ago. the fbi is now asking for help to find a bank robber in the metro. they are calling her the wicked whig of the westbrook federal investigators say woman has held up five banks at safeway and albertsons stores. she is always wearing a wig and always has classes on. she demands money and threatens to use a gun but so far, she hasn't pulled one. there is a reward of up to $7000 out. a man accused of impersonating a doctor and illegally performing medical procedures without a license was in court today. carlos fernandez fernandez is now scheduled to enter a plea in november. he allegedly portrayed himself as a licensed doctor since at

he performed procedures at a clinic under his own name at federal and alameda. for victims turned out to be seriously hurt. two say they were victims of unlawful sexual contact. audio of a truck carrying beer that crashed on loveland pass this morning. three people were hurt. matt kroschel first broke the news on www.cbsdenver.com and facebook. let's go to him now. >> reporter: allen, there is a lot of loveland pass. it is completely closed down after this semi skated all the way down off loveland pass on its side before hitting to other cars. crews are starting the process. it is going to be a long day cleaning up all the beer. it is michelob ultra if you are wondering. i have confirmed with arapahoe basin, two employees were involved in this crash.

we do know that one of the drivers, not sure if it was the truck driver or someone else in one of the vehicles, is in serious condition from this crash. it appears the truck lost control here coming down loveland pass this morning. all truck traffic was coming through loveland instead of i-70 because of work on a bridge on i-70. all those truckers were coming down loveland pass. we are at this runaway truck ramp where the single all ended but up the road is where it started. definitely terrifying moments for folks who saw a side coming down loveland pass. i am matt kroschel, cbs 4 news. >> that is one steep pass. we will have updates this afternoon on www.cbsdenver.com the new york and new jersey bombing suspect is in custody facing five counts of attempted murder of police officers. prosecutors are laying additional charges as they

and what may have motivated the attacks. brooks a libretto reports from elizabeth, new jersey, where the suspect lives. what is the latest today? >> reporter: good afternoon. it has been quite a busy day at the rahami family home the father, mohammad rahami come -- has come out of the building several times and talked to us about his son. the father of terror suspect -- the terror suspect stood outside the family home and said he called the fbi two years ago. investigators are now piecing together year-old son and what might have driven him to bombings in new york and new jersey over the weekend. sources tell cbs news, they recovered a handwritten note and notebook revealing he may have been radicalized. >> as far as acting alone, that is what they are looking at.

his social media records, his phone. >> reporter: the suspect was on the run for 50 hours before police arrested him in a shootout in new jersey. he had left a trail of clues including fingerprints and dna. his face was captured by surveillance cameras in manhattan, where 29 people were injured. rahami was born in afghanistan. cbs news learned he recently traveled to afghanistan at least three times and wants to pakistan. the home he lived in this house in elizabeth just upstairs from the family's chicken restaurant. the family has clashed with the community over noise complaints and accused the city of anti- muslim sentiments. rahami underwent injuries but is said to not be cooperating with law enforcement. the fbi says they did speak with his father in 2014 after a domestic disturbance with a brother where a neighbor overheard the father call his son a terrorist but when the fbi spoke to the father, he said he didn't mean it.

the fbi couldn't find any other evidence that it was. >> brook silva braga, thank you very much. president obama addressed the united nations for his final time as president today. days after bombings in new york and new jersey, he discussed combating terrorism worldwide. >> our international community must continue to work with those who seek to build rather than destroy. >> while the president also urged nations to do more for the millions of refugees from more torrance area, president obama will host a refugee summit later supporting resettlement programs. hillary clinton and donald trump are using the bombing suspect's arrest to push their campaign messages forward. he was born in afghanistan but is a u.s. citizen, having emigrated when he was seven years old. trump says he does not like the suspect facing the u.s. justice system. lenton says it needs to improve how it grants the says. >> his case will go through the various court system for years

necessary actions to restore our customer's trust. >> he has refused to step down but today, massachusetts senator elizabeth warren said he should resign and should be criminally investigated. housing is so tough in denver, city council approved a plan to set aside millions to help. members approved a $150 million fund last night to go toward affordable housing programs. the money will come from an in next 10 years. the mayor wants to add about 6000 affordable housing units in denver. we will see how it goes. boulder has cited the owners of the stirling university peaks apartment with a pile of violations. several students found their two-bedroom apartments converted into four bedrooms and a bookcase split the rooms in half. the owners are now facing 184

you can see what the heavy rain has done. man it causes damage. >> it sure can. luckily, we don't have anything like that in our future. >> tropical stuff is not usually hours. >> no, but these clouds are courtesy of tropical moisture. the batch of air out of the southwest, cloudy in the city and the mountains. almost our entire state is cloudy today due to something happening in the tropics. temperatures right now 80s. it is a slow warm up. this cloud cover is hindering us but it is comfortable around the state is on eastern plains, 50s and 60s up high. we are in the 70s on the western slope. carol house cracked the 80 degrees mark in northeast longmont. debbie is at 72 degrees and for colin. this is bringing the cloud cover to colorado. tropical storm pain off the

the southwestern united states. you can see that on doppler 4000. south and west arizona, here in colorado mostly just cloud cover. we have a few sprinkles trying to reach the ground. we are very dry in terms of the atmosphere here. we check out the dew points and readings in the 20s and 30s means it might be raining in the cloud but it is too dry to get that down to the ground. if we get rain showers later today, probably just sprinkles but that will change as we go deeper into the week. the upper air pattern, high pressure over texas, low pressure over washington and the flow around these two ringing that moisture out of the southwest and into the central rockies. a good example of how we depend on the atmosphere to transport moisture from well over 1000 miles away. on futurecast, a very cloudy afternoon. clouds will stick around into

colorado, your atmosphere will saturate a little bit more. you may actually get some rain down to the ground. for the rest of us, just mostly cloud cover at least for today. late tonight, some of the highest peaks in the central mountains could see a shot of rain or a rain-snow mix as showers get going. here is the 5-day forecast. had to back our high down a couple degrees. i think that cover will prevent us from hitting 90 degrees like we did yesterday. cloudy. knows -- no sunscreen necessary. tomorrow, the same. cloudy, mid-80s and as we go deeper into the week, we get a little unsettled and rain chances go up. nothing heavy out of this system but a ton of cloud cover and that cools us back a little. >> it has been hot. see chris's latest forecast and radar on the cbs 4 weather app.

we eat junk food but when we come to our cars, many of us are feeding it to well. a new report from aaa says americans unnecessarily upgraded from regular to premium gasoline with an estimated this year. kris van cleave reports. truck gas remains $.10 cheaper than this time last year but aaa says americans are throwing money away. >> it just requires unleaded but i prefer to use plus to keep the engine good. >> richard ulrich prefers regular but he hears the siren's son of higher gas. >> i think the octane helps it run better. >> i think it's easy to believe that something that says

>> if your car is designed to run on regular gasoline, using the premium fuel isn't going to make it run better, get better fuel economy or have better emissions. >> reporter: aaa looked at v-8, b6 and four-cylinder engines and found no benefit to using a higher level of gas and what was called for by the manufacturer. aaa estimates 16.5 million drivers upped unnecessarily, costing them an extra $2.1 billion. only about 16% of vehicles on the road require premium gas. they are typically high performance or luxury cars. another 10% run best on midgrade. seven in 10 cars only need regular. the american petroleum institute, which represents the gasoline industry agrees most cars run just fine on regular

breaking news right now. highway 119 is closed at 63rd street eastbound toward longmont due to an overturned tanker. you're looking at it right here. there is a hazardous materials team on the scene to try to clean this up but it is mess. sheriff's deputies tell us it will be closed for hours. it might be best to go east out of boulder to i-25 north or east to 287. that might even be closer. a woman with a successful exercise program says a former instructor she fired is not only out to destroy her but also anybody associated with her. that instructor says she is the one being harassed and even went to the local news for
