covering this story since 5 am. what is the latest? >> reporter: the fire chief told me he is getting closer to nailing down a cause. he said when they arrive on scene, they normally look for a v pattern and that often leads to the origin of the fire. preliminary evidence has led them to believe that it started outside of a bottom floor unit. the one you're looking at right now is the one in question. many people who live here have been coming by able to see the damage of clothes for the first time. >> this used to be my apartment here in j 104. what is left of it. it's quite a scene. >> reporter: the fire broke out yesterday afternoon around 4:00. more than 75 firefighters from four agencies responded to the blaze and the search for people who may have been trapped

and what may have motivated the attacks. brooks a libretto reports from elizabeth, new jersey, where the suspect lives. what is the latest today? >> reporter: good afternoon. it has been quite a busy day at the rahami family home the father, mohammad rahami come -- has come out of the building several times and talked to us about his son. the father of terror suspect -- the terror suspect stood outside the family home and said he called the fbi two years ago. investigators are now piecing together year-old son and what might have driven him to bombings in new york and new jersey over the weekend. sources tell cbs news, they recovered a handwritten note and notebook revealing he may have been radicalized. >> as far as acting alone, that is what they are looking at.

his social media records, his phone. >> reporter: the suspect was on the run for 50 hours before police arrested him in a shootout in new jersey. he had left a trail of clues including fingerprints and dna. his face was captured by surveillance cameras in manhattan, where 29 people were injured. rahami was born in afghanistan. cbs news learned he recently traveled to afghanistan at least three times and wants to pakistan. the home he lived in this house in elizabeth just upstairs from the family's chicken restaurant. the family has clashed with the community over noise complaints and accused the city of anti- muslim sentiments. rahami underwent injuries but is said to not be cooperating with law enforcement. the fbi says they did speak with his father in 2014 after a domestic disturbance with a brother where a neighbor overheard the father call his son a terrorist but when the fbi spoke to the father, he said he didn't mean it.

the southwestern united states. you can see that on doppler 4000. south and west arizona, here in colorado mostly just cloud cover. we have a few sprinkles trying to reach the ground. we are very dry in terms of the atmosphere here. we check out the dew points and readings in the 20s and 30s means it might be raining in the cloud but it is too dry to get that down to the ground. if we get rain showers later today, probably just sprinkles but that will change as we go deeper into the week. the upper air pattern, high pressure over texas, low pressure over washington and the flow around these two ringing that moisture out of the southwest and into the central rockies. a good example of how we depend on the atmosphere to transport moisture from well over 1000 miles away. on futurecast, a very cloudy afternoon. clouds will stick around into
