to the right shoulder that could cause some delays for you. new violence to tell you about this morning in the aftermath of a shooting of a black man in america. protesters took to the street in charlotte, north carolina last night. 12 officers are heard this morning. heda the news. >> reporter: traffic was brought to a standstill overnight. some talks items from a truck and set them on fire. it is after police fired tear gas. some demonstrators took turns damaging cars with rocks. chaos erupted after he was shot

officers were looking for a suspect with an outstanding warrant when they encountered the 43-year-old getting out of his car. he was not the man they were looking for. >> he is armed with a handgun we found on seeing as well and because of the threat to him at least one of our officers fired. >> reporter: this woman who says she is the daughter of the victim live stream she shared a different view of what happened. >> he was in the car reading a book. >> they jumped out of their truck and they said hands up. he has got a gun. >> reporter: the officer involved has been identified as an african american on the force

he has been placed on administrative leave. hena daniels, cbs news. >> authorities are still intervene witnesses. a westminster man found thieves stealing items from his garage. one points a gun at him. this morning police are still looking for possibly three more suspects. shawn chitnis is live where it happened. >> reporter: much of this area was closed off yesterday police were investigating after a chase and the deadly officer- involved shooting. the case is complicated because we have to jet different scenes as well as several suspects. this begins with the homeowner calling police yesterday said he found a few men and women stealing items from his garage. he also told police he was punched by a suspect and they

one drove away on a motorcycle while the other man and woman got away in the car. they say he crashed and tried to run away on foot. police say he pulled out a gun and officers saw the gun and killed him. neighbors were shocked to see this happening outside their doors. >> this is a wonderful neighborhood. we very violence or anything happen in this neighborhood at all. >> reporter: so police are still looking for the suspects that got away this morning. as for the shooting, that is being investigated separately. shawn chitnis, cbs4 morning news. it is time now for weather and traffic and lauren is with us. >> we have some rain north of alamosa and the rain near

it is actually a much warmer start today for many of us with 51 in telluride and pagosa springs. 65 in denver and many areas in the upper 60s right now. we had 58 degrees in rist canyon this morning. a nice morning for the kids with temperatures in the upper 40s and lo it is even warmer in the high country as well. we have a traffic alert we are following westbound along c- 470. it is off to the shoulder and you can see it on the right side of the headlights coming toward you. you can see some flashing lights near 285 and c-470. we do have some delays due to the

here we are with a couple side street trouble spots with ongoing police activity. the earlier activity we had as you get to 54th and it is looking nice on i-to 70 -- i-270 . a man accused of hitting and killing a cadet is facing a jury. cbs4's jamie leary live from the boulder county community. >> reporter: a huge loss for the community with outpouring of support from within the state. troopers from across the country came to support him. christopher keepers will appear in custody as opening statements in this trial are set to begin. he has been in custody since his arrest 16 months ago.

including first-degree murder. the state patrol related procedures in the deployment and they want all evidence related throat out. prosecutors say gebers acted recklessly and it was may 23 of last year when he took off after being pulled over. he then crashed into an accident scene where he struck trooper clinton old. opening arguments are slated this morning with monday and tuesday for a jury selection. jamie leary, cbs4 morning news. developing now the search for this woman. she is so-called the wicked wig of the west.

this is video from the chase bank and albertsons on 120th in northglenn. all of the banks targeted are inside albertsons and safeway stores. the store is offering a $5000 reward in addition to the crime stoppers reward. this morning the 20 about a 14-year-old girl who disappeared from her home last night. we are happy to tell you she is we are now learning more about a crash that closed loveland pass for more than six hours yesterday afternoon. a semi lost control and rolled. it hit two cars. >> the thing went sideways across the road and knocked cars into the ditch.

brother. it was back to school for brandon marshall. he visited some students to push his message about positive change. marshall has taking a knee at the last two broncos games calling attention to social injustice in our country. several of the players are also protesting. yesterday he explained what his message is. >> stay in message about staying in school. i told them if they have perfect attendance, i will come back and throw them a pizza party. >> rishel is donating $300 for every tackle he makes this season as part of his tackle change initiative. 65 degrees this morning on

efforts right here. let's figure out what the forecast is looking out like today. >> it is going to be much cooler for those bikers this weekend, but we are off to a warmer start right now with 12 degrees warmer in burlington. it is 11 degrees warmer in a long and that puts us that 65 in denver. a warm start to the day with 70 in akron 55 degrees in avon and 62 in grand junction. we did have a little rain near burlington south of lamar and north of alamosa right now. you will notice we are pretty cloudy this morning. we still have a lot of the moisture streaming in from the hurricane and now it is bringing moisture south of ball hog into

california. we are looking at the rain to continue with scattered showers help that direction. by lunchtime there should be a few breaks in the sunshine into mesa county. some of those rain showers wrote on through and we do have some rain possible in denver all of the way through fort collins into parts of el paso county. wee tonight a dry air mass settles in. we still have the chance of rain through tomorrow and we could get some to the southwest here in denver with a couple isolated showers as well. it will still be fairly warm with our last full day of summer. 84 in denver today and is still warm on the eastern plains.

we do have a pattern shift heading our way into thursday. we are slightly cooler with much cooler temperatures and a cold front on friday. that really changes the game because we are dropping to the 60s. today through friday we have the chance for some storms with cooler temperatures toward the weekend. along c-470 was just off to the side. it has now been cleared out of the way. we still have some delays on the southbound direction putting the equipment off to the side. they have really been working in the eastbound direction this morning. here we are looking to slow

is looking great along westbound i-76. i want to show you the drive times as you make your way from the west into downtown. we are dipping into the 50s on the eastbound direction. the suspect in the new york and new jersey bombings roach he hoped the sounds of bombs will be heard in the streets. the handwritten journal of ahmad khan rahami was cited in journals history. hena daniels has the latest on the investigation. >> reporter: 28-year-old ahmad khan rahami is facing terrorism charges including use of a weapon of mass instruction and bombing a place of public use. more details emerge after complaints were filed. executors say rahami brought bomb making materials and he was seen on video bowling up a

before the bombing. after rahami was captured during a shoot out monday, investigators found a notebook pierced by a bullet. in the notebook rahami quoted osama bin laden. rahami wrote about pipe bombs. investigators are still trying to determine if rahami was acting alone. hena daniels, hospital. the officers injured are now out of the hospital. she likes country music and adores colorado. she wants to be a wedding planner when she grows up. 16-year-old reina knows what she wants. she is ambitious and very independent. today she allows female

welcome back. 65 degrees this morning in denver. this is our final morning of grand junction. 55 in avon and 65 at tia. it is 70s come in from our weather watcher nancy rockwell who says it is warm and breezy in that area. we do have cloud cover in this region with rain in our southeastern corner. we are mainly on the cloudy

looking at futurecast, we will stay that way with a few breaks in the clouds by lunchtime. some of these head through the denver area in the late afternoon and evening. let's check in with 12. >> we are watching a trouble spot northbound along i-25 as you get to arapahoe. it is right between the lanes. my guess is it looks like it again. my guess is police will be out there shortly. that is going to cause some delays. it makes you nervous, doesn't it? officials have to reopen a pipeline today that ruptured in alabama this month. it caused a surge in fuel prices across at least five states., places where out a guest.
