at least 7 law enforcement officers are hurt. there are two distinct sides in the version of what happened leading up to the police shooting of a man on tuesday afternoon. our don champion's in charlotte with the latest. >> the chaos in charlotte stretched well into the overnight hours as protesters faced off with heavily armed officers. tear gas filled the air and at least one flash bang exploded. asfi the streets. the scene played out as anger over the deadly police shooting of keith scott spilled onto the streets for a second night. some demonstrators were arrested peacefully, but damage to buildings and stores in charlotte's vibrant uptown area with mounted. windows were smashed. >> justice justify everything. if you give the black man justice and according to the

>> at one point, a man was shot in the head by another civilian, drawing raw emotion from this protester. >> we came out here for peace. this is not how we succeed. i was sitting right next to him. >> reporter: fueling the unrest, the different narratives of what led to keith scott's death tuesday. >> i want people to know we are going to make sure that our investigation is thorough, and it's transparent. >> reporter: police say year-old ignored repeated demands to drop a gun when they confronted him at had apartment complex. family members insist he was holding a book not a weapon. don champion, cbs news, charlotte. the north carolina chapter of the naacp is calling on authorities to release the video that they have of the tragedy as quickly as possible. police want to find 16-year- old jeffrey collins for an attack on a 71-year-old woman.

police say monday night 71-year- old katie kulpa picked up three teenage hitchhikers, invited them into her mountain cabin after the teens were stranded from a weekend hike. that's when collins apparently attacked kulpa. there was talk by our suspect stealing a car. the others did not like the idea. it came as a surprise, our suspect out of e >> police consider collins armed and dangerous. his family tells us he has been in and out of trouble by police. friends and family of students of married teacher killed last week in a rollover accident will honor them today. a memorial service takes place

a private burial will happen in greenley. their toddler was strapped in a car seattle in the backseat and survived. there is a go fund me account set up for their daughter with a goal of $50,000. the fund will pay for her schooling and other needs that she may have in the future. search is on right now for a driver after the death of a bicyclist. it happened on tuesday near the entrance to carter lake in larimer county. state troopers tell us the driver of a white sedan or jason holden, causing him to fall off his bike and into the oncoming lane. another car hit holden who died. cyclists who ride near carter lake say the area is beautiful, but it is dangerous. >> we're only given a 12-inch shoulder. it doesn't allow us much room to stay on the side of the road. with that said, we have to ride the white line or to the left of the white line. >> reporter: investigators are

8:21 is the official start of the new season. we are starting with cooler temperatures across the front range and eastern plains. 25 degrees cooler in limon. 16 for pueblo and colorado springs 11 for ray and burlington. 55 as you heads toward akron. 57 in denver and greeley. mild in the high country. 52 in aspen this morning. 62 over in grand junction. visibility. we have fog on the eastern plains near akron, and a little bit in parts of the san luis valley. rain has eased up a bit. we have the possibility of a little bit more later today. and ahead of the next system, we have gusty winds expected for the western slope and into the high country. some of the winds could be damaging. anywhere you see in the yellow, mofette county, to the southwest, you may see winds up to 60 miles per hour. areas in brown up to 65 miles

wind advisories. it's going to be very gusty as we head into the afternoon hours. even the morning hours up to the northwest and some of the winds, i'll go back to this quick. some winds will go back to the night, and overnight. taking a look at future cast for today. we have cloud cover in the front range, and fog that sinks into denver, and we have a chance for rain in the northwestern corner and that rain gets a little bit more widespread as we head into the afternoon and into the denver area. future cast doesn't show that. overnight tonight, rain and snow continues off to the west, and tomorrow we have the possibility of more showers. starts to ease up a bit during the day, and in the evening hours, a chance for storms, and on saturday morning we may have snow in the areas in the mountains that could arrive late friday night. 80 in greeley. 95 in lamar. plenty of 70s in the high country, and 70s and low 80s off to the west. for your hour-by-hour forecast,

the man on marijuana related plates has lopez wanting to fight. >> i would like to encourage people to use the opportunity to sue the government. >> reporter: it turns out they already have. in texas all the way to the u.s. supreme court, which found that states can ban because it's government, not private speech that is involved in this banning of the vanities. rick sallinger cbs4 news. an 89-year-old man who had to go after the death of his daughter got some help from the community. we first brought this story a couple weeks ago on the cbs4 morning news. after someone snapped a picture of him pushing a cart, and more than 17,000 people ended up donating to give him a day off. yesterday he was awarded a life changing check. >> the original idea was to try to give him a day off want we never in a million years dreamed that this would be the
