we have high wind warnings. we may see gusts covering the western side of the state up to about 60 to 65 miles per hour. that can be damaging wind. let's check in with joel. luckily the only thing we're talking about this morning right now is construction. nice and wide open. of course we've got mississippi that's shut down as you get just to the east of santa fe out to broadway. you may be moved out of the way. i don't know. construction every time i think it's done, they bring out a whole new set of cones. we have more violence in the city of charlotte, north carolina, as police say a civilian was shot during more protests. that person is in critical condition, and the city is in a state of emergency. our reed binon has the latest. >> i'm asking for calm. >> the mayor of charlotte, north carolina, calling for peace as anger grows over the

scott. the second night of protests in charlotte was destructive, and bloody. one person hospitalized in critical condition on life support after being shot. authorities say by another civilian. as night fell, protesters remained out in force, police deploying flash bang devices and tear gas. the report echoing through the downtown streets. protesters hurling the canisters back at chaos. oh, wow. also on a few occasions getting overtaken by it. one cnn correspondent knocked to the ground. in the middle of it all some protesters worked to calm things down. >> i'm trying to prevent people from being hurt. my brothers are out here, too. >> reporter: despite the efforts, several were injured in the unrest. the state's governor declaring

he's initiated efforts for the national guard. >> we cannot tolerate violence, the destruction of patrol, and the attacks toward our police officers. that's not the american way. >> reporter: i'm reed binon reporting. this morning in colorado, police want to find 16-year-old jeffrey collins. have a look at this photo. he's wanted for an attack on a 71-year-old woman. collins is wanted for attempted murder. police say monday night, 71- three teenage hitchhikers including collins. she invited them into her mountain cabin in boulder county to wait for a ride after the three teens were stranded after a reported weekend hike. now, that is when collins attacked kulpa with a fireplace poker. >> at one point there was some talk between by our suspect of possibly stealing her car. the others did not like that idea but came as a surprise our suspect out of the blue struck

>> there was a maddening delay of getting his photo out because he is a juvenile. police consider collins armed and dangerous. his family tells us he has been in and out of trouble with law enforcement. katie kulpa's son set up a go fund me page to help with medical bills. people have raised $12,000 of the $20,000 goal. i put a link on my facebook page this morning. >> that's an upsetting story. 5:04 this thursday morning. let's get a check on weather and traffic. 53 degrees here in denver. 55 in boulder. 56 in burlington, 58 up in craig. now we are in our final hours of summer. fall officially starts at 8:2 # this morning. we have -- 8:21 this morning. we have very thick fog in sedgwick county. on the eastern plains be cautious. it's pretty bad. we have had rain this morning. we have died down a bit for the moment, and we will have a mixture of sunshine and clouds this morning.

crews are searching neighborhoods for old military exemployeesives. the -- explosives. the munitions left mind from artillery practice, up until the 2nd world war. the statesman working to clean them up over the past few years, they explode them when they find them. this is the first time they are going into people's yards. >> the vast majority of these houses are not going to have any ti we may find some munitions related material. i do not believe we're going to find anything that poses an explosive hazard. >> the government contracted crews will spend the next couple of weeks marking yards before they eventually dig for possible explosives. new this morning, a u.s. military fighter jet crashed off the japanese island of okinawa overnight. the pilot managed to eject himself and was rescued by u.s. air force helicopter.
